Part 3 - The Trap

The sun was rising over the city slowly transforming its glowing electrified appearance to one of shimmering reflective surfaces. The tropical sun that rose in this part of the world would soon bake the island below in heat that used to be welcomed by holiday makers but now simply made survival harder. Even during the day the city was as silent as the night.

The blond teenager stood defiant in the dead end allyway backed up against the wall. Sweat covered fists gripped a rather battered hockey-stick as he stood forward into a ready for battle posture. His shoulder length hair framed his concerned but resolute face. His eyes piercing through sweat matted strands. A white circle with a star in the centre shone out from his loose green sweat soaked shirt. Three quarter length worn denim shorts clung to his boney hips. Bare feet spaced out for hardened balance. His heart pounding fast after the run he had taken to this end.

The blue furry bulk rose in front of him and he gripped his weapon tighter staring into the eyes of Snagtooth. The large blue Zoopaloopian grinned back at the human who was in his mid teens. The Surf necklace still caught in his tooth dangling from the side of the monsters mouth. The belly of the beast bulging almost obscenely.

“You ate my brother and sister,” said the teenager through gritted teeth trying to keep hold of his emotional storm of fear and anger, “you swallowed them whole you bastard, you… i’m gonna..i,… you…”

Snagtooth just tilted his head down to the left as if to question the teenagers next move. The large furry beast licked its large lips. Quite a mouth fall this lad would be for the Zoopaloopian, especially since he had already swallowed two younger siblings moments before.

“COME ON THEN,” shouted the teenager lunging forward swing the hockey stick, “TRY IT YOU FU…” 

Before the lad could finish his sentence Snagtooth had already moved aside allowing the hockey stick to swing past missing the creature and hitting the floor. By the time the teenager had realised he’d missed his shorts were tugged off, and struggle as he did his shirt soon followed the rest of his cloths on the floor. 

Snagtooth growled as he tried to grip the flailing naked teen. Most Zoopaloopians disliked older meals because they were harder to swallow but Snagtooth had come to enjoy it.

Gripping the boys kicking legs by the ankles he quickly placed them into his wide open mouth and sucked them into the confines of his throat. Then picking the boy up by the slim waist Snagtooth sat back on his haunches and started to swallow with big gulps.  

The boy slammed his fists down hard on the monsters head as his naked teenage body slipped further and further into gapping wet hot maw. 

“SCREW YOU, SCREW YOU”, shouted the boy realising he was about to join his brother and sister inside that huge bulging belly, “I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON ME YOU BASTARD!”

Snagtooh started to chuckle, his entire body vibrating with laughter at the boys words. The shaking mass caused the smooth skinned boy to slide down into the slippery insides even quicker. In desperation the teen clawed his his hands on the saliva soaked blue fur around the mouth as his blond mop topped head sunk into the mouth with large monstrous lips closing behind. All that could be seen was two skinny arms reaching out from either side of the Zoopaloopians mouth with fingers reaching out to nothing. 

Snaggtooh relaxed, savored the taste filling his mouth then slurped in the arms like spaghetti before leaning forward on all four legs with a now massive bulging furry belly. The monster sighed and with a large shaking rumble the beast’s belly slowly deflated to normal size.

Surely Snagtooth must have been full by now. The large blue Zoopaloopian padded around like a kitten getting comfortable for a sleep when something else suddenly caught his attention. 

With a large growl Snagtooth leaped into a bounding dash down the ally way and out into the street. This was not hunger urging the monster, this was something else. Who ever the sent belonged too Snagtooth wanted, and he would do anything to get them. This was not hunger, this was obsession driving Snagtooths actions now.

The great blue furry monster grunted its way down the streets past a couple smaller green and orange Zoopaloopians, who jumped aside in fear of this mighty blue beast. The buildings either side were a blur and nothing else registered in Snagtooths vision as he focused in on that sent.

Turning a corner he slid to a halt as he caught a glimpse of a sparsely clothed figure disappear into a shadow cast ally. Snagtooth grinned before laying his body down as flat as possible to the ground and gradually, quietly moved toward the ally. With his furry nose picking up the sent stronger than ever Snagtooths eyes bulged from their sockets at the thought of finally catching the one that had alluded him for so long.

He paused as he entered the shadows letting his big eyes adjust to the change in lighting. In front of him a figure came into focus and Snagtooths mouth grinned wider than ever before. This was him, this was the boy and with a large roar the big blue furry Zoopaloopian pounced at the unsuspecting child. 

Pinning the boy to the ground the monster immediately proceeded in tearing the clothes off of its meal ready to consume. Strangely though the young human felt stiff and cold and plastic.

Snagtooth paused confused and in those few moments a loud rattling sound above alerted the monster to a frightening situation. As the heavy containers attached to ropes plunged to the alleyway floor Snagtooth found himself hoisted up into the air surrounded by strong netted wire.

As the echoes of the calamity faded leaving a captured bundle of netted fur slowly rotating five feet above the ground another slight human figure dropped from above.

Eddy stood with a smile on his face. He could not believe the trap actually worked. carefully the boy stepped closer to the trapped Snagtooth. The monsters face pressed up against the wire netting breathing deep frustrated grunting breaths. Eddy saw the surf necklace and glanced at the big Zoopaloopian eye staring back at him.

“See,” said the boy, “I told you, i told you i’d get you”

Eddy then quickly looked around and after rummaging around near the back of the ally returned with a piece of bent metal wire.

“I want it back,” Said Eddy bending the wire straight, “It’s not yours”

Snagtooths grunts became more pronounced as the boy slowly pushed the wire through the net towards the necklace tangled around the large tooth. Eddy again briefly glanced at the large eye focused on him before squinting as he concentrated on the necklace.

Suddenly the monsters breathes stopped casting the ally into silence and at that moment Eddy wondered what the monster was about to try and do.

Snagtooth opened and chomped his mouth down hard on the wire almost catching Eddies hand in the process. The boy fell backwards to the ground and watched in alarm as the Zoopaloopian gulped back the piece of metal chocking violently. Then Eddy heard gyrating grumble before Snagtooth belched blue flames and sparks from his mouth like a blow torch.

Covering his face briefly from the bright sparks Eddy then watched as the wire netting holding the beast melted away in the blue flames. In no time at all Snagtooth dropped from the netting onto the ally floor in front of Eddy who was now standing.

Snagtooth glanced up from his fallen position right in to the eyes of Eddy. Fear was all that could be seen in the boys eyes, sudden horrible fear. The boy leapt into a sprint for the main street. The blue monster immediately tried to get up to pursue but staggered and coughed some remaining blue sparks. Shaking his head Snagtooth regained his senses and bounded off after the boy.

In the main street three smaller orange Zoopaloopians were struggling with the process of unwrapping three captured boys and two girls, when Snagtooth’s huge blue bulking body came tumbling out of the dark side ally.

Eddy had only made it a few meters before a shadow cast over his meagre body and suddenly he felt the furry paws grab him and pull him towards the blue fur. He struggled fiercely to get free by kicking his feet and pushing with his arms but Snagtooth was not going to let this prize go.

The Orange Zoopaloopians distracted by this display soon found their own meals had wriggled loose and started chasing the half clothed humans around the street.

The Monster soon had Eddies shirt off before tugging at the shorts Eddy had only found the night before, unwrapped from one of Snagtooths previous meals. Time seemed to slow down for Eddy as around him large orange furry monsters chased down children to eat. To the right he saw a boy getting gobbled down head first, his little bare legs flailing in desperation as the orange Zoopaloopian pushed the boy in with a big furry paw. Eddy felt his body being lurched as the huge blue creature above him started to tug at his briefs. Was this it? was this how it was going to end? Eddy closed his eyes tight.

Suddenly there was a loud boom sound similar to a cannon firing.

“POPPERS!” came a cry from one of the Orange monsters causing the other two to look up in panic. Even Snagtooth froze jaw wide open ready to receive Eddy. 

The boy opened his eyes and saw a pink ball rising above the surrounding buildings high into the sky. Then with a faint pop the pink ball suddenly exploded into dozens of pink balls which started to rain down on the city.

“Take cover!” shouted the same Zoopaloopian that had recognised the impending danger. 

The remaining captured children watched in awe as the pink balls fell and as they came closer it was apparent that they were about two metres in diameter and in fact furry with a slight spotted pattern. They started to hit the ground with a soft thump, then immediately sprung open to reveal big goggly eyes and very large arms.

“HUG ME! HUG ME! HUG ME!” giggled the strange pink creatures over and over again as they started to bounce towards the scattering Orange Zoopaloopians and children.

Those who had not yet gobbled down their meals simply let go and ran for the nearest side ally or entrance to a building. 

One of the boys who had not yet been eaten found himself being wrapped in pink loving tickling fur. all that could be seen of him was his bare wriggling toes and the top of his giggling head. Then in a large pop of exploding red mist the hugging creature and small boy vaporised into the air. 

Suddenly many other Pink monsters started to explode. A young girl ran as fast as she could but was pounced on by two Poppers and suddenly she was gone along with the poppers in a quick explosion of red mist just as the boy had.

One of the Orange Zoopaloopians found himself up against a wall surrounded by Poppers.

“HUG ME! HUG ME! HUG ME!” They giggled as they bounced towards the terrified Zoopaloopian.

“Noooooo” He cried as the large pink furry arms hugged him lovingly before exploding.

With a quick tug on his briefs Eddy managed to pull them up and free himself from Snagtooths grasp. The large Blue Zoopaloopian was more than distracted by the surrounding Poppers.

Getting to his feet Eddy made a dash across the street through the group of bouncing poppers begging him for hugs. Snagtooths attention again fixed on Eddy and he was soon chasing after the boy again. The force of the explosions around him pushed Eddy right and left but while feeling quite dizzy the boy kept his balance and ran as fast as he could. Snagtooth shoulder barged poppers aside as he gained on his escaping prize. Grunting in defiance of the exploding situation around the large blue beast.

As the main street ended a recreation space began beside an artificial river that snaked through the city. By the river was a statue of the great Professor Colins who invented the Zoopaloopians and designed the entire city.

Eddy came to a halt by the edge of the river walls. His toes gripping the stone as his heart beat in desperate thought on how to escape. A large growl and thunderous thud caused a terrified Eddy to spin around on the spot to be confronted by a furious Snagtooth. Then up between the boy and the monster bounced a pink furry goggle eyed creature that promptly exploded into a large flash sending Eddies vision to go bright white and his ears to start ringing.
