I am extremely proud of these glorious self portraits! Interesting back story: I was supposed to model for a photographer on this day, but at the last minute our shoot had to be rescheduled to to heavy rain (it was an outdoor theme) and he had requested this hairstyle. It took me a long time to do my hair and makeup so I decided not to waste the opportunity and to shoot myself instead!

I am wearing two layers of Lingerie both indie designers from Etsy: one is Christal Sweets (the red bra and panty) and the black strappy is by Blossom Body - together they create a sweet modern vintage look with a hint of bondage ;)

I can't wait to show you the "making of" video in my next post! It was really creatively refreshing to put this all together!

***Origins of censorship?***

Though on paper I am "uneducated" (a high school dropout), I do always seek to learn new skills and facts about the world around me. Traveling does motivate me to seek deeper meaning in my surroundings, the geography, the history, culture etc. The last few days I have been exploring museums, churches, streets and sentiments of Rome, Italy.

This place has TONS of epic nude art- Michaelangelo's paintings and sculptures all up in the Vatican church as just one example... The question came up: "At what point in history did it begin to become 'taboo' to depict nudity in public displays of art?" So I asked my people on facebook this prompt, I received a ton of responses, some were just political wankers or mansplainers, but a few people DID provide actual helpful insight on this topic!!

Apparently, nudity was STILL considered controversial even when Michaleangelo was painting the sistine chapel. Obviously things have gotten much more prude today, but it wasn't fully acceptable back then either.

Nudity in general was a lot more common (public baths, nude olympics etc) until the Black Death in the 1300s. (citing a facebook commenter) Apparently sexual promiscuity was put into question as one of the potential faults contributing to the Black Death- that's when societies and religious institutions started cracking down against nudity a bit more. However, there was still tons of nude art being created for centuries after that.

The most interesting and in depth article someone shared with us on that thread was by FORBES - read it here - it went into detail about how genitals were beginning to be considered obscene or offensive, and there was even a "fig leaf campagne" to cover genitals of classic art in churches and public places (CENSORSHIP!) and there were even efforts involving removing peni from statues...

Anyway it was really interesting to learn more about the origins of censorship, I learned a boatload more as well but I am only sharing the highlights from this delving into my newfound knowledge :)

I hope you enjoyed the self portraits!!

Thank you again so very much for supporting my work and for helping contribute to make the world a better place - 10% of your pledge to me here is donated to charity each month, you rock!!!!

Peace and Love!!

First, I love the styling and how you layered the two sets! I think harnesses can really add that extra dimension, plus there are more straps to play with. 😉 As for the nudity... That does make some sense. I've always wondered so many things about nude art. As a woman with a bush, I've always been curious as to why pubic hair is largely absent from many classic pieces of nude women. I've heard different theories (very young models and artists just leaving it out being the two main ones), but I don't think I've ever read any clear cut, historically backed info on it. A lot of it is slanted towards the writers modern agenda (either for or against). Anyway, kind of a side tangent, but that's what came to my mind. The human perception of nudity is definitely an interesting topic!

oh!! i hadn't thought about the pubes thing... the women in those art pieces are usually voluptuous so it doesn't look like they are too young to have pubes....i wonder if they shaved...? hmmm
