AT LONG LAST, I am BACK TO WORK!!! I'm so excited to be making Tamberlane again! Thank you guys for all your sweet well wishes - the vow renewal was AWESOME and the honeymoon was SO relaxing. I am ready to roll up the sleeves and KICK SOME ASS.

Composition Notes

A lot of the finer points of story in Tamberlane evolve entirely when I'm working on pages. For example, I was done inking this one before I decided out of the blue that Briar should have a crush on Milo. And that has solved a problem that's been plaguing me for forever about how to evolve the story in the short term.

This is why when people ask me for comic advice, I say START! Because when I started Tamberlane, I knew only the barest of bare bones for the story, and didn't even have an ending. (In fact, still sort of working on that part lol.) But so so so much of the important relationships etc evolved because I was working on it. It's changes in dialogue, adjustments in framing, wanting to draw an emotion out... All of it makes for a better comic.

As for the rest, not much in the way of composition. The middle panel was the hardest and I'm not sure I was successful in a solid direction for reading the balloons, but to be fair, I didn't decide to add Oakewood's commentary until after everything was colored. DRATS. (Being flexible is ultimately the way to keep me from going nuts, but it also does get in the way sometimes... But that's okay! There's a page, and that's what matters.)

Love is in the air! Nice to see that Walter is by Tess' side and that the situation has been completely diffused after cooler heads (well, almost all--Briar did yell at both her idiot mother and sister for being dunderheads) prevailed. This is a good segue into the furthering of the story, which will be a wonderful surprise to continue to enjoy now that you're back, Pixel! Long live Tamberlane (she better be, she's only 3 and has a lot of life left in her).
