The previous season left out some Sigma's monologue, which might get you confused. He did mentioned that after he appeared in the desert 3 years ago, other men found him and used him because his ability was useful. And after that, he escaped and met Fyodor (he knew Fyodor would use him, but he accepted that because he wanted home), that's why he joined DOA.

That was all mentioned in the manga, right? I don't remember him mentioning being found in the desert, but it's possible it was a short scene which is why I don't remember.

Probably anime left it out. There're a lot of things getting cut when Sigma was introduced last season 😢.
