Another great episode from this Seinen series about Vikings, the hardships of war, and Thorfinn's journey. The talk between him and Askeladd was rad too and I wonder if Askeladd knows something that he isn't telling anyone else. Maybe he is sick or something. I am also interested in learning more about Prince Canute and how/why he is a Christian. I wonder if him and Thorfinn will meet at some point.

Historical context without giving anything away about Canute, but this is the era of Viking conversion to Christianity. It was a gradual process with Denmark ostensibly converting during the reign of Harald (the king before the king before Sweyn) but it was more of a political concession since the Danes started ruling over Christian subjects. I imagine the meta angle is that like how Askkelad says the Saxons destroyed the Romans and the Vikings destroyed the Saxons, the Viking old ways are starting to die as well

Honestly, the whole (one-sided) exchange between Askeladd & Thorfinn might just be one of my personal favorite moments from Vinland Saga thus far tbh
