The premise of this film was so much fun to explore! I loved the world building and the relationship between the family members. But boy, that intro was intense! Enjoy :)

Getting trapped in a grain bin is a genuine fear of mine. You are essentially sucked down and slowly crushed by the immense pressure. It's so dangerous and has such a high fatality rate that it has its own Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_entrapment

This movie changed my understanding of cinema forever. The movie theater was full, but everyone was pressed into their seats, no one was eating popcorn or pulling on their straws, it was dead silent in the room and no one dared to breathe. It was unbelievable.

I love this movie, I think it’s so brilliant. As you say, it’s a family drama at its core, the monsters are just sort of the backdrop. I respect Krasinski and the whole crew so much for trusting the audience to figure things out without having it spelled out. There’s no scene where they give a huge exposition dump. Heck, aside from Beau (whose name I think was on the cross) you never even find out the characters’ names until the credits. IIRC the father’s name was Lee, the mother’s name Evelyn, their daughter Regan and their oldest son Marcus. We don’t get much backstory about them, but we can pick up from the clues in the film that Evelyn was a doctor and Lee an engineer. Little Beau’s room was space themed, explaining why he wanted the space shuttle toy so much. Regan knew her father was working on a functional cochlear implant for her, but she didn’t understand that he was doing it out of love and wanting to keep her safe. She probably thought he did it because he blamed her and considered her a liability and/ or defective. In actuality she was an instrumental part to the family surviving as long as they did. Had she not been deaf they probably wouldn’t be speaking sign language and would have huge difficulties communicating. As a side-note, I can’t help wondering if the baby was conceived at that water fall, or if they just had the quietest sex of all time. I also pity people who snore. One nap and you are alien brunch.
