I shared your mix of happiness but confusion as to why Hammond was inexplicably the one to greet them at Stargate Command. My head canon is that if it were real, then once the SGC realized Atlantis members were coming through the gate, they might believe it to be an important enough event to bring in a bigger general like Hammond to debrief them. However, in order for Hammond to have time to get from Washington to the SGC, that would probably then involve an off-screen time jump of maybe Weir and the others going back to Atlantis and gathering their stuff for the trip. That said, a better and quicker way to explain it could've been a quick line from Hammond saying General O'Neil was accompanying SG-1 to see the Asgard (or whatever) and that he volunteered to hold down the fort while they were away.

Dr. Rodney McKay is watching The Outer Limits (1963), though the "control voice" that is played at the beginning is voiced by Christopher Judge. (imdb) Beer gross? In this case, Coors. I have to agree. Now Guiness, that's another story. 😋 A clue something wrong. He left beer in frig, that means he left power on, Why? He had no idea how long he would be away, he's just going to accrue an electric bill, maybe for years with no one there? Then the inevitable power getting turned off till he pays that $50,000 energy bill plus his credit rating trashed... why? As for killing a couple thousand more to let them return to Atlantis, There no getting around that. Eventually Atlantis will open another gate to create an open signal to communicate. That would kill thousand. Then they would likely send another team killing thousands more. Hell Atlantis might open that gate a hundred times sending puddle jumpers, rovers, drones thru, killing millions more. Sending them home saves the most lives.

I always assumed that in the scenarios Jack was there & had some interactions with the characters off screen & what we saw on screen he was off doing other things & they just didn't mention him to try not to bring attention to the fact that they didn't have Anderson available It's entirely possible too that it was intentional in order to give the viewers the feeling things were off right off the bat like how it happened with you

I LOVE this episode. It was so much fun, i was a little disappointed that it was a fake out bc i wanted to see Teyla explore earth for real. I love the "Fish out of water" storylines. But i still really really liked this episode. I miss Hammond so much 💔

yeah . . . they used to recast ppl to other rolls alot back then, it was normal back in the day but hard to see in a rewatch now

1. True... We don't know how much about Ancient ships ...We know they had Atlantis and we know they had Puddle Jumpers ....Perhaps The Ancients didn't feel the need to have a fuckton of ships to fly around with ...I mean... They've got stargates as well ...Why spend days or weeks travelling to other planets when you can just step through the gate ....I suppoooooose this could be the deciding factor as to how 60 Wraith ships could've outnumbered The Ancients and drove them out of Pegasus ....As for you saying we don't know how big Wraith ships are ...We do Froots... We've "seen" several now ...The pilot and the Genii episode we saw ships that had trees grown over them ..They're kinda big but not GHUGE. 2. You make a good point ....Atlantis is 840 years away from this planet by way of a Puddle Jumper ....But what if they went to a stargate closer to this planet?? Or are we supposed to assume that this planet IS the closest to Atlantis in the entire Pegasus gate system? Also what if they could get Prometheus to come over? 3. Sheppard bringing a book with him from Earth kind of contradicts an earlier episode ...Back in 1x03 we learned that everyone was allowed to bring 1 special item with them to Pegasus ....Sheppard brought the video of a football game with him which he showed to Teyla to explain what football was and what a "hail mary" was ....Yet here we learn he also brought a book 4. It's a flimsy excuse which isn't stated in the episode ....But one COULD explain it away that Hammond is in charge of Homeworld Security and THAT is why he greets the Atlantis team and not O'neill .....I DO think RDA SHOULD have made an appearance here though ...It could have sold the plot better ...Made people think it was real for a little longer ....Sadly RDA has the whole reduced shooting schedule issue going on for him so we didn't get to see this ....Nonetheless it was nice to see Hammond again though 5. Actually... We kiiiiiinda did hear this ..."Walter" says The Asgard have been helping us upgrade the Prometheus's hyperdrive so we're able to reach other galaxies ....In 8x08 Thor was lounging in a chair in O'neill's office and O'neill asked for a new hyperdrive for the Prometheus ...This could kiiiiinda fall into continuity for that conversation ....I say kiiiinda since we ofcourse know this isn't real ...But it COULD make you second guess for a moment ...(see how the watch-order I made for you can make you think?) 6. Also... Notice how the wormhole visual effects to and from this mist planet looks different ....It's not an update to the VFX ...It was another hint that something fuckey was going on here 7. Random side note... The "I'm With Genius" T-Shirt McKay is wearing ...I used to have one ...Why? ....Cause of this very episode ....This was a long time ago when I still lived at my parents house ....And like many of my nerdy T-shirts they ended up mysteriously vanishing after going through the washing machine 8. I mean... Couldn't the mist just disperse a bit away from the gate while Sheppards team gates back to Atlantis? None of these mist beings HAVE to die 9. You ARE right... They SHOULD have addressed why O'neill wasn't there ...They skated past it and NOBODY second guessed it which is what always bothered me about this episode ...But the rest of it was great though 10. I LOVED how Sheppard was able to manipulate the whole thing and was so casual about it too ...Dude is a whole lot smarter than he pretends to be... Much like O'neill ...His ability to alter things might either be cause he's too smart not to fall for this shit or perhaps the fact he's a natural when it comes to using the Ancient gene ...They didn't explain it ...Although Sheppard and O'neill AREN'T purposefully similar though ...Hell.. Joe Flanigan didn't even watch SG-1 and had no idea who O'neill was when he got the role ....Any similarity in the way the character is portrayed is just sheer coincidence
