S.T.R.I.P.E. looks like a mix of Robot Man from Doom Patrol and Big Guy from "Big Guy And Rusty The Boy Robot" if anyone remembers watching that show on Fox Kids. And credit to Brainwave, he looks like such a nerd but he's also terrifying

Basically, they want the Cosmic Staff because it's a powerful weapon that is able to harness and channel a near unlimited amount of cosmic/stellar energy. The energy can be used to do all sorts of things like powerful energy blasts, flight and imbuing the user with a limited amount of defensive capability through force fields, that's why Courtney wasn't hurt too badly when Brainwave smashed her into the ground with the car bumper. Also, it was the weapon of one of their greatest foes, so having it as a trophy is probably appealing as well.

Unsure if you caught this but Pat says a guy named ted Knight built the Cosmic Staff, Ted Knight in the comics was the first Starman and he built a lot of tech, also he was the cousin of fellow superhero, the Phantom Lady (who I am very fond of). A version of the fourth Phantom Lady, Jenny Knight, appeared in the Arrowverse in Freedom Fighters: The Ray. The Cosmic Staff takes the place of several other technological items created by Ted Knight, the first Starman, from the comics. Primarily, the staff retains much of its properties and powers from the Cosmic Staff in the comics: Courtney changed her name from Star-Spangled Kid to Stargirl after Jack Knight, Ted's younger son, gave her the staff and it is most well known from its time in her possession. It takes the place of the Gravity Rod, the first piece of Starman tech created by Ted Knight: the Gravity Rod was the original technological marvel created by Ted Knight. It also replaces the Cosmic Converter Belt, based on the Gravity Rod: Courtney inherited the belt from Sylvester Pemberton when she first started her career as the Star-Spangled Kid and wouldn't become known as Stargirl until later after being given the Cosmic Staff. Courtney's red belt on her costume is the Cosmic Converter Belt in the comics. Sorry for the info dump. I just love Courtney and the Starmen legacy in general.
