2021-08-08 13:42:53 I get what you're saying and it does get to the the point of feeling like being attacked. It's easy to feel that way from the side of white people, like you and me. However, I don't think that it's their intent is to say white people bad, black people good. I mean, there are bad black people in the show too. I think it is more of a trope that writers get lazy with and say yeah, this will please the people of color audience. It's the same reason why when all of the action/fighting scenes are happening, they feel the chronic need to always play soul, R&B and hip hop. Stereotypes, clichés and as you put it, lack of subtlety.

I don’t think it was meant to be subtle. I thought it was a direct shot at the people in power (Usually depicted as older white men) wanting to cover up something to rock the boat. I also don’t think the “black cops are good and white cops are corrupt” stereotype is exclusively a black-cast show problem either. If you look at other shows, (the Flash, Arrow, Daredevil) the minority main cop person (Singh, Joe West, Dinah, Mahoney) are the good cops and the corrupt cops are usually white. I think it’s don’t to avoid criticism from people being like “Yeah of course you made the minority the corrupt one” as was done on tv in the past and now they have basically over-corrected. At least in this show compared to Black Lightning, all the main villains are black too

I do know that in this show the reason they play a lot of music and especially at Harlem’s Paradise will show almost full acts on stage is they wanted to showcase black artists as the show takes place in Harlem and to honor the Harlem Renaissance. In this show it makes sense... others like Black Lightning on the other hand feel like they play music constantly for no reason
