Omg don't tease me. I love the merlin tv show. Literally so underrated

Avalon Perry

I know that all of the moments between Rumple and Belle in this episode are supposed to be touching or whatever, but personally I was just annoyed by them. This was Rumple’s umpteenth time apologizing to Belle and promising to do better, and at this point in the show I was over it. Rumple has had chances upon chances upon chances to be honest with her and try to do better, but he’s kept making the wrong choice. In my opinion he’s past deserving redemption, and it really gets on my nerves how Belle continues to forgive and trust him.

Yep I saw the Buffy reference coming and I was here for it! BTW, a writer/producer from Buffy is also behind the scenes on this show, Jane Espenson. There have been references hidden here and there.

At the end of the last season, they cleansed Rumpel's heart of the darkness. I suppose you could say that, in the clerical sense, he was absolved and his sins were forgiven. So even though he did still do all terrible things and remembers them, he's been "cleared of all charges" so to speak. You could also think of it this way: as far we know, every wrongdoing that he's committed, he did it all while he was the Dark One. And now, he's no longer the Dark One and can't be seduced by the darkness, so he's been "reborn" in a way and so has his heart. Mind you, I'm not trying to make excuses for Rumpel necessarily. I'm just trying to see if I can explain things and alleviate any confusion.

At first, I thought that this Merida was the same one from the movie and that these events now (her brothers being older and kidnapped by the other clans, her father being dead, her mother exiled, etc.) take place after the events of the movie, like with the Frozen characters. But now it seems like this is actually an alternate version of the movie, because Merida didn't seem to know what the potion actually does.

Jordan St. James

Also, I feel like the movie, for as average as I thought it was, had a more compelling resolution to the conflict between the clans. In it, Merida used patience and diplomacy rather than hotheadedness and violence, which is what she had been known for up to that point. But here on the show, the conflict was resolved by a show of strength and defiance, which kinda defeats the message of the movie since that was what started the conflict in the first place.

And that arrow trick was garbage. Even Oliver Queen, Clint Barton and Katniss Everdeen would call bullsh*t on that.

I'm just saying, Rumpel's head should've been pulp after that blow he took. Bears, as I understand it, are insanely strong creatures. And I feel like Merida was already much bigger than an ordinary bear.

Miguelito

Yes! I feel like I can agree to this because even in the current episodes we see that Emma is being seduced by the darkness. This could have also happened to Rumple to make him do those bad deeds. Again, not saying that Rumple shouldn’t face consequences for his actions, but it’s also not 100% his fault either. The Evil Queens is different because she chose the darkness, her bad deeds weren’t anyone else’s decisions but her own. So, Regina is on this redemption arc because she actually has to redeem herself. (Regina is my favorite character, so don’t take any offense please❤️)

Disney15ish

I kind of find it funny that a lot of Belle centric episodes since S2 is a lot of "Team her up with current other Disney Princess character" (S2: Mulan, S3: Ariel, S4: Anna, S5: Merida)
