Yes Shan. Transgendered woman means Nia was born a man and transitioned to a woman. The actress that plays Nia is transgender as well

El

Generally correct, though the terminology there is a bit outdated. 'Transgender' is an adjective, so there's no 'transgendered'. It's not something done TO her. And she wasn't born a man, she was assigned male at birth. It seems like a subtle distinction, but it's an important one. Using the right terminology helps recognise transgender people as valid in their gender, and repeating the older or outdated language can often be used to inflict great harm on transgender people. (I'm not saying that was your intention, I'm pretty sure it's not, but even just casually repeating it can reinforce stereotypes and misconceptions.)

Yeah that was on me. I tend to use outdated terminology when giving knowledge to people who aren’t as aware of such things. In this case Shan. It’s not a valid excuse but thanks for pointing out the appropriate language

The device that dispersed the Kryptonite at the end of the episode is the same device that was used at the end of season 2 to disperse led into the atmosphere and make Daxomites leave earth. If you remember, the led invaded the entire atmosphere of earth so no Daxomites couldn’t stay there, so basically they used it to do the exact same thing but with Kryponite instead of Led.

Can i just say I love this polite information conversation. Just trying to make sure everyone has correct knowledge and is on the same page while being kind.. its wonderful.

Luis Garcia

Yes, this is a great conversation. No one is born with all the knowledge in the world; everyone that know this information had to learn it at some point in their lives. I think it's great to be asking these questions. It means that both Shan and everyone who watches this video can become more informed!

Also, the actress that plays Nia, Nicole Maines, confirmed that she was the subject Susan Doe of the Maine court case, Doe vs. Clenchy (Regional School District 26). This led to North Carolina's controversial "bathroom bill" 5 years ago.

Yes she’s apart of an iconic time period in American history

The character's name is Nia Nal. Like Nora on The Flash, she is an original creation that is loosely based on/inspired by an existing DC character. I'm not gonna say who as that would be a spoiler, but the character in question is one my all time favorites, and Nia's characterization feels very much in line with that character. I think she's a great addition to the cast.

Yeah Nicole is amazing Shan if you are interested this is an interview she did with Ellen a few years ago now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVrAO60hGdM talks about when she knew she was meant to be female, and the troubles she went through

Brandon Wiesner

I know you said you were kidding when you said how about the show take a page from Alex's book and not talk about politics but the audience was saying the same thing for real.

I know this comments section is a year old and so you might not read this, but I feel like there’s more to say about the transgender terminology. So, when someone is transgender, it means their gender does not match the body they were born with. Some people describe this as gender being your brain, whereas your “gender assigned at birth” is your physical body or sex. A trans woman is male-to-female (mtf), and a trans guy is female-to-male (ftm). Someone can be transgender, regardless of whether they’ve had a sex change yet (which includes multiple surgeries, not to mention hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Many trans people don’t get a full sex-reassignment, due to either financial issues, availability, or expectations (bottom surgery for trans men, for instance, often leaves the penis either without sensitivity or too small to penetrate. Using tissue from the arm fixes this issue but leaves noticeable scarring, and I’ve only seen this specific method done in Thailand). If someone who’s transgender is in the closet, they might not have socially transitioned either; however, they are still transgender. The medical diagnosis is called Gender Dysphoria, which is a persisting discomfort with your physical body and gender role in society. Most places who offer transgender surgeries will require this diagnosis from a long-term psychiatrist, to be medically cleared and recommended by your primary physician, and usually require that you have been on hormones for at least a year and have had a successful social transition for a year.
