It was a great fight in this one. This is the kind of fight I always wished we could have gotten on Smallville. Maybe not the flying part but at least the punching. I love Smallville but I was always a bit disappointed that it was mostly always pushing or powers. They had chances to do a bit of fighting with Brainiac, Zod, Doomsday etc.

To this day, this fight is still my favorite fight scene in the whole Arrowverse. I mean, there are many examples of better choreography and camera work, but this one just feels the most brutal. You can really feel the punches landing. I think I can safely say that no one loves the James/Lena pairing. Some people might not hate it, but like you said it’s just feels really forced and not necessary. Also, I’m glad you’re not an Imra hater. She’s my 2nd favorite comic book character of all time, only behind Superman, so I’m glad you like her. And here’s a fun little piece of information: Imra’s birthday, according to the comics (not sure about the Arrowverse specifically), is November 23rd. So Happy Birthday Imra. And Happy Birthday to you too, Shan.

Regarding James & Lena, it was hinted it at in 3x02 and 3x05. But I can I see why it looks forced. Personally I don’t mind them.

I was actually was ok with James and Lena. They had more chemistry than him and Kara ever did.

I feel like James has just been very irrelevant recently so they're trying to fix that I guess? Lena is one of the main characters at this point so we'll see how this goes

The actress who plays agents here and on Agents of SHIELD tried going back and forth between doing both shows. After doing several episodes in Season 1, she also appeared in an episode of Supergirl in the middle of Season 2. It was difficult to do both shows, so she had to decide between them. This was her last appearance on Supergirl before committing herself to staying on Agents of SHIELD. AoS gave her a slightly bigger role to play. This episode was filmed and aired during Season 5 of Agents of SHIELD. After filming this episode, she returned to SHIELD. And Agents of SHIELD only recently ended in real time with Season 7.

I'm a little surprised that the mention of the legion of superheroes didn't click for shan since I remember her pointing out the legion rings during season 2 of The Flash

4:15 and 4:54 It was subtle, but she did recognize it. It just wasn't a big reaction, like with Constantine, but it was there.

Partially what makes this fight scene even more satisfying is as you stated this is the most broken Kara’s ever been. I mean Kara really hasn’t ever been physically challenged in this show it’s actually kinda disappointing. There’s moments where she’s incapacitated sure and someone else saves the day which is disappointing, but she’s largely been quite OP throughout the show thus far. I mean even in this episode they mention how she defeated Superman at full strength! Supergirl just doesn’t know how to lose! And yet here we see she gets cocky challenges Reign an unknown villain she knows nothing about and just gets completely wrecked. This is another aspect that makes it one of the best fight scenes in Supergirl if not Arrowverse history.

Seems any romance with James and any woman looks "forced". LOL. First with Kara, and now Lena. Lena actually had more chemistry with that other guy in last season's episode 2x18 "Ace Reporter", the one where the nanobots took him over. I think some of it is the whole boss-subordinate dynamic, since in the US we've been now taught it is pretty much frowned upon in many instances. Furthermore, it's just that the James side storyline, first with his love interests, and then his role as Guardian, are somewhat uninteresting to me.

Yeah, I agree with Shan's initial assessment in season 1 when he was first introduced. It seems the writers wanted to change him to be black to be "progressive", but then had trouble figuring out what to do with him. Had the actor who played Winn and this actor (Mehcad Brooks) switched roles, it would have made more sense. Right now, you can remove his character from the show, and 95% of it could continue without him. It seems his Guardian persona is a lite version of Batman, like some writer thought "What if a version of Batman worked with Supergirl? How would that be?"

I always use James' character as the reason/example why casting someone just for the sake of being diverse can go wrong.

Personally, this is why shows shouldn't make characters just to be love interests, make someone a character and if the actor or actress has on screen chemistry with someone, try it out.

Yes Jason exactly. I won’t say anymore cause we’ll get into spoiler territory. But James’ problem has almost nothing to do with his race. If he was white it would’ve been the same problem unless they had him be a Winn character. That could be anyone Black White Asian. His main problem is being a gender flipped Fincher girl. He’s nothing but a glorified love interest. I like that idea a lot Jason but I don’t always agree with it in practice.
