Mon-El is back from the future.... in the past.

I have to say that when this episode aired I was super excited for Imra’s character to be introduced as she’s my 2nd favorite comic book character of all time. But the reveal that she and Mon-El were a married couple was just too much. I was never a fan of the Kara/Mon-El relationship for various reasons but having Imra and Mon-El as a couple feels even more bizarre. As much as I love Imra there is a part of me that wished they would have had Tasmia introduced instead. At least then Mon-El would have been married to the correct person, ya know, the woman he was married to in the comics. I don’t understand why the Arrowverse writers feel the need to constantly mess with long standing relationships from the comics.

Because these are TV shows based on comics that don't necessarily need to stick to the canon? I don't understand why people complain about this, do you literally want a comic book storyline redid as a show with every single detail? I like it when shows do things differently than what I've already read a hundred times but maybe that's just me

Sad Cat I understand where you’re coming from but there are certain times iconic characters are associated to people in a certain way and doing it differently can feel very offensive. It’s one thing to say cast a Black dude like Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin. It’s another to break up two characters who are very closely paired in the comics to suit your own spin on the material especially when you treat the characters like trash which the Arrowverse writers tend to do. Just look at their treatment of iconic character Black Canary as a good example. The architect of the Arrowverse himself stated Black Canary sucks. He hates the character and so it’s not just putting your unique spin on the character it’s tarnishing legacy and tradition just for the sake of “being different” and that’s not gonna get a friendly reception.

I'm not against things being changed up and I don't want to see straight up adaptations of storylines but in the case of Mon-El we're talking about a character who had never been portrayed in any media outside of comics before this. His appearance on Supergirl was the first time many people were exposed to the character and what they got was complete horse shit compared to what could have been. And like I said above, Mon-El has a long romantic history with Tasmia in the comics, but when given the opportunity to introduce his wife onto the show, they changed it to be Imra. It's just a dumb move by dumb writers who have shown time after time that they don't truly understand the characters they're working with and why people might be upset when they make such illogical changes.
