This episode feels so much like a Saw movie, which is weird because the guy who plays the main villain of those movies also does the voice of Savitar

Shan, you might not like the Flashbacks anymore but you have to admit that it's 10X better than season 4 Flashbacks

Why did I sign up to be a patron of ASR? “I wanted to...I Wanted To! AND I LIKED IT!!!”

Wyatt

Exactly! Honestly I think if she didn’t see the season 4 flashbacks she might have enjoyed this season’s more. Also I believe this season flashbacks are more impactful the second time watching

I completely aggree. I mean i was very happy when we finally got the Bratva storyline and Dolph Lundgren is amazing as Kovar

To me, this is my second favorite episode, not because of how much I enjoyed the flashbacks but more because this episode made them worth it. The flashbacks all lead to show just how broken and dark Oliver was before season one. And the “I wanted to and I liked it”... it’s the unspoken thing you kinda on some level knew back in season one but weren’t sure because Oliver is a hero now. This episode makes Oliver an anti hero and almost villain and really reveals how this series has actually really been about his redemption from anti-hero to hero. It really reshapes how he was in season one compared to season five. That’s why they had the flashback earlier this season that took place in season one where he is straight up killing fools. Tommy was right. In season one, Oliver was a anti-hero. Sure then could have just not have had the flashbacks and just said he was in a really dark place; however, showing them (Even when grading at time) allows you to have the skinning scene. Shan’s reaction was perfect and was definitely the intended reaction. The feeling “No, that’s not the Oliver I know” is the point. It really made me appreciate how far we have really come.

Easily in my top 5 favorite episodes. Stephen Amell’s acting’s here is great. “I wanted to! And I liked it!” Is one of my favorite performances in this show. I’m also not a huge fan of these flashbacks, but thought they were done really well this episode.

Completely agree. Sometimes people forget how ruthless Ollie was in Season 1. Flashbacks here definitely do a good job comparing what he was like before he got off the island to his character in Season 5.

I haven't been a fan of the flashbacks since they ended with the island and Slade Wilson. Back then, they served a purpose and had a direct correlation to what was going on in the present day. Ever since, they have been trying to come up with a past storyline that is as compelling but have been failing with every new season. This one may be better than last season, or any other season after the island but really, that's not saying much.

I like the flashbacks. You've gone through this quick but I waited four years to see how he became Bratva. When he came back from the Island he had that Bratva tatoo and I always wondered how he got to be a Bratva captain. Just like all the previous seasons flashbacks, this years flashbacks directly relate to the journey Oliver is on in this season and who he is a hero or vigilante/killer. He was "missing on the island" for 5 years and we are getting to see from the moment he was ship wreaked to when we first saw him in the pilot back on the Island and getting picked up by the boat. This season of the Flashbacks is basically season 0 if you think about it. He comes off the Island and is becoming part of the Bratva and going after Kovar who is basically like the Villian of the season like Merlyn, Slade, Ras, and Darhk. The other seasons had villains too but to me this season seemed like the flashbacks play out more similar to like the present seasons do. Also it's the origin of the hood persona. Yeah he wore it before but this is where he trained under Talia and really took on the second identity with the costume to become something else .... s0 "the monster" then s1"the hood" then s2,3 "Arrow" then s3 etc "Green Arrow". Also it's to show the contrast of who he was here and where he is now in s5 with him being a killer. Plus when it comes to this ep you are like so disinterested but it plays out just like a season 1 episode only in Russia. He is in hood fighting villains trying to commit terrorism. There was fighting, Arrows, Guns ,explosions, a hostage, a hallway fight a gas attack and a villain fight. All the stuff that would be in a present day episode. To each their own I guess, I know not all the Bratva politics were exciting all season but there is a lot of stuff happening it seems that is being missed or we are just not seeing it the same way I guess. Sorry I don't mean to offend I still love the reactions.

2021-07-09 11:16:17 I can’t speak for Shan but I really feel like Season 4 scared her. I feel like if she would have enjoyed the flashbacks if it weren’t for season 3 & 4. Honestly I’m not angry about it, I just feel bad that she’s not enjoying it as much as I feel she could’ve
