I completely agree with you about Deke. But in their defense, Deke spent his whole life looking over his shoulder, never really had a childhood, so this is like Deke finally being to be a kid in a world that isn't 2091. But underneath it all, Deke still harbors much anger that the team are oblivious to which will brought up later.

I always find it hilarious that people thought deke was “cool” Like some suave guy. Season 5 he got stabbed by kree while fighting, got pushed aside by sinara, he hugged a tree, tried to eat ice cream out of a trash can, tried to run while drunk, Got shot trying to save daisy, got super high on meds and blurted his feelings out to her. He was never like spike. He has gotten use to life on earth now and since he never really got to be free like that he is more relaxed and stress free no survival mode. He just adapted to his surroundings

Also if you didn’t realize deke and snowflake are the twisted version of FitzSimmons for sarges crew and the truck is the bus. Jaco is the Mack and pax is the ward.(he betrays his team) Daisy and May are themselves

My theory with Deke is that in 2091, he knew exactly how his world worked and was able to manipulate it to survive and benefit himself - and because of how that world worked, people didn't really form connections with each other. When he came back. everything and everyone he knew was gone - he no longer understood how the world worked, and the only people he knew and thought he could connect to didn't really want him around.

With Mack's 'extortion' of Deke, it's not really unjustified - almost all of Deke's money has come from things he's stolen from SHIELD, so it's not like he's entitled to it in the first place. Essentially, Deke is a fraud who hasn't actually invented anything - the only thing we see that he hasn't stolen from SHIELD is the mushroom pellets, which were common knowledge from the future. It's also worth remembering that Coulson wasn't above similar threats - he got Professor Randolph to assist with the original monolith by threatening to turn him over to the ATCU or a related taskforce. However, I think Coulson is a better chess-master than Mack (he did learn from Fury after all), so I imagine that Coulson would either have not let Deke get as far as he did, or had a plan to take control of the company by being behind one (or more) of Deke's investors.

ASR: "This is what you get when you get the full reaction...all this random garbage happens" That's the best part!

I don't think it's fair to say Deke hasn't invented anything. Remember that in the future, he rebuilt his own framework from bits and pieces without any formal training with computer systems, and while he might have taken some specs from their files before he left, in Code Yellow, the way his employee talks about the "prosthetic hand with an energy shield" as an idea indicates that he is working to recreate a lot of the ideas he's stolen from scratch. His business may be built around taking credit for other people's work, but it could be argued a lot of tech geniuses have done the same thing.

I feel like Deke has always been a comic relief character on SHIELD, but there was a shift in tone between season 5 and 6. In season 5, he was trying to be a part of the team because they were trying to save the world, but he chose to leave when the final battle came because he wanted to see it in case they failed. Even though he was a comedic "fish out of water" type, he had a dramatic investment in the season's plot that kept his character grounded, and he got the chance to be a little snarky to the other characters because they owed him for saving them. In season 6, he was brought back mainly because the fans and writers liked him, so the way he gets pulled back into SHIELD is by coincidence, and his involvement doesn't feel as integral. Now he's trying to be a part of the team because he idolizes them, and wants to be recognized for his accomplishments helping them, but is constantly being talked down to and treated like an idiot because he abandoned the team and stole from them. I think they were trying to make him more of a parallel to how Daisy was back in season 1 as Skye: trying to fit in on the team but not really agreeing with their ideology, not understanding their operations and constantly asking questions, falling in love with a psychopathic murderer, etc. The reason it comes across as annoying with Deke is because he isn't emotionally invested the way Skye was, and doesn't get the deep plot line she did, he just gets to be the butt of the "rookie" jokes. Hopefully he gets a chance to bounce back later, and becomes more of a Hunter-esque character.

The Gravity Belt is also Deke's from the future. And you can argue that since Fitz created the Framework, technically it's a family invention and belongs to Deke.
