In their argument they have more senior members with "The Real Shield" than just Coulson and May. They likely have many more agents with them manning that aircraft carrier than Coulson has overall. They just have no clue about what really happened after the events of Winter Soldier. None of them knew the circumstances with Coulson and his team or Fury being alive. From a military perspective it's like a Captain taking over the military when there's several senior ranking members above him still around. That would never happen.

"So, what's the plan boss?" And Coulson gives a wry smile and nod... that's how it ends. Welcome back. :)

Except, the "real" shield has more people...but are apparently doing nothing. They are not fighting HYDRA. They did not do anything about whitehall. The only reason Bobbi was doing anything with HYDRA is because she was sent to spy on Coulson, and Coulson sent her to HYDRA. If Coulson wasn't around, Whitehall would have found the Diviner in episode 1, he would have used it to create an extinction level event (as he eventually tried to do by turning it into a poison), and thousands/millions/billions of people would have died. The "real" shield is a joke. The idea of them isn't bad. But the execution sucks. We never see them doing anything other than sitting on a carrier, and spying on Coulson. They have more resources, so they should be doing something....but they don't. If we followed them for a few episodes and they had missions dealing with 0-8-4's, or enhanced people, or Hydra. Or if, for example, Coulson sent his team out to attack a Hydra base, and just as they showed up the base explodes. Coulson is confused, nobody knows what happened, and then we cut to Bobbi or Mack making a phone call reporting mission success. That way we could have the impression that the "real" shield was actually doing something, maybe even doing it better than Coulson.

I love Skye in this episode...Her powers are like Jedi powers! FORCE PUSH! BOOM forest go down!

Absolutely agree, I'm sure there's more to it than that. We only see one side for the most part. We don't know what else they were doing other than saving other agents at the school and likely more. I assume it was just supposed to be a minor story so they didn't get the development they should have.

The fact that Captain America felt that Fury's version of shield was corrupt and needed to go is reason enough to see where Gonzales and company are coming from.

WB

It’s not a kingdom. Fury was no longer in charge. He had no authority to make any decisions about the future of shield. The other shield has more senior staff than Coulson’s Shield. They also don’t know him and his behavior seems erratic. It’s frustrating for the viewer because we do know him and understand his behavior, and know that he is the right person for the job.

A/ How sneaky was Jemma! Totally fooled me. and B/ season 1 skirted around powered people, while season 2 (as we all Gasped and Cheered (some swore)) introduces an agent with powers for Coulson.

Chris (darkwater)

Coulson was right though, they should have talked to him. Instead, they use secrets hide themselves and to sneak into his base.. while in the same breath, condemning Fury and his secrets.

Paul Gibson

Why does Coulsdon have any more right to be director? It wasn't Fury's decision to make

Tammy L. Faulkner

Fury was the Director... The start of SHIELD... if it wasn't HIS decision than who the hells was it?

BOO

I get why SHIELD splintered into different organizations but what I don't get is why they didn't try to join together immediately
