ok so from what i can gather ........ hiruko is the little girl that keeps showing up as well as the god they have the festival for and for some reason hizuru calls them haine and it seems like hiruko has been using shioris shadow as an avatar to move around. will also say that i dont think tokiko is evil ...... from what shes said in various moments up until now and certain movements here she still seems to value those she knows so we just need more info first. the rest of this is much more speculative so will be in another post

so theory time: i think at some point in the past someone in sous family (maybe the dad maybe even further back) found hiruko in the cave and through research on her ended up creating the first shadows but they had no will and were more like wild beasts than anything but through more experimentation eventually created the shadows we know of that have minds. at some point someone stole hirukos right eye and it ended up in shinpei (the eye being what allows him to loop) and ever since sous father has been feeding her ........ possibly out of some sort of religious devotion possibly to prevent what happens in the festival of her just killing everyone on the island to regain all of her strength (given tokikos reaction during the festival she either hasnt been told the whole truth by her father or hiruko went and straight up betrayed her father) as for tokiko her father has probably been conditioning her to be his successor for her entire life after deciding he didnt want to do that to sou and so shes been forced to just accept that this is the way things are

Ah, I like that theory! But the crazy thing is these things are out here killing people. Unless they don't know that yet, or they've accepted it for maybe a greater purpose? To me it's just easy to call these people crazy! lol
