Today I have a hi-res and Process Guide for this month's pair of miscreants! The Harbinger and the Froglin Minion!

These were a blast to paint! I've been looking forward to these guys for a while now. They took about 6 hours total for the pair of them, (which is great considering it was 2 monsters!) I attribute a lot of the speed that they went along at to how long I had been picturing the final versions of these 2 in my head. The painting process goes so much more smoothly when I've had some time to consider. Speaking of which, for anyone who ins't part of the tutorial tier on the Patreon, I am also posting a tutorial today on 50 tips and lessons learned from the Monster of the Month series. Part one goes up today, and part 2 will go up at the beginning of May. It's a collection of all of my notes from the past 3 years.

So what monsters will we tackle next month?? We have a lot of great options from the forthcoming sketchbook, so we will probably put it to another Battle Royale vote at the beginning of May.

And what of this rumored Monster of the Month sketchbook??  Unfortunately, we have had a lot of printing and delivery delays. It was scheduled to be ready at the end of April, but our printer has revised that to middle of May. This is a frustrating delay for us, but I would always rather delay it and have high quality than pressure them to rush it.  Hopefully we will be have something to share soon. You will hear it here first when I can finally share some previews before the pre-orders go live!

Hi Justin, how do you use the mxr brushes in procreate?

Justin Gerard

Hey Taryn, The MXR brushes work best in Photoshop because Procreate's mixer function is completely different. In Procreate the MXR brushes will behave like normal brushes since the mixer functionality is absent. When I do the full year wrap up versions of the Brush sets, I try to tweak them for the Procreate .brushset file to work more closely to the PS version, but it is never quite the same as when they are used in Photoshop. I am still hoping for a Procreate or PS update that addresses this issue for brush designers!

Hey Justin, how do you use the mixers brush in photoshop lol, never got quite the hang of it

I like them, but I don't actually use them a ton. The best way to use them IMO is just to blend passages together. So a stark shadow area that goes into a light area, I like to blend the area in between the 2 so that the blending of the tones appear more natural. There are also places like hair and clouds that just look kind of cool with the brushes. They aren't a MUST or anything, I just think they speed up achieving that more natural blending look.
