So it started perhaps three years ago, when I was reading about online privacy and tracking cookies. How there exists different systems that can look across different sites and select ads based on whatever they can guess or collect about you. What you buy. What you read. What you like.

One of the first ads I saw after reading that article was some online clothes shop I had visited earlier. As an experiment I decided to click all the ads with adidas clothes. My thought was that it is easy to recognize and easy to remember. Then for the following few weeks I diligently opened every adidas ad I would come across. It was eye opening how integrated advertisement have become. I would not only see adidas ads on my computer, but soon also on my tablet and phone as well.

It quickly bled out into all different kinds of sites. Funny enough porn sites were one of the last ones that started to give me adidas ads. Something about “brand safety”, but someone somewhere didn’t care.

A few months in it was second nature. Every adidas ad, right click and open in new tab. They popped up everywhere. When I was reading news. When I was jerking off. When I was playing games.

Then something I hadn’t anticipated happened. As I was walking around in town I realized that my attention was constantly drawn to the three stripes or triple leaf on people. You can’t get a dozen people together without one of them having adidas visible somewhere. All the time, no matter where I am, as soon as the lines come into view I have to check the person out.

But here is the problem. I’ve been fed images with young, male, photo models in adidas clothes for years while I’ve been masturbating, so whenever I see a boy wearing adidas I get a boner. And I can’t not look.

Read my commentary.
