as a sub enjoyer, i've watched countless anime's all in sub except FMAB. its the only anime i've watched in dub and i would say its worth it especially for roy mustang's voice actor. roy mustang in dub is 100000% better in dub then in sub the rest of the chraracters are meh. edit: i forgot about king bradley his voice is good too.

People call dub just watched it dub first and created a bias, all good, the dub isnt bad and pretty good, but its in 90% just bias repeating. Same count for sub though (which i preffer)

I gave it a chance, I watched 3 eps on dub without watching sub (since I have only watched the OG adaptation in my mother language's dub - not english-) but I really don't like it lol. Sorry for people that say this is better that sub, I cannot believe it, I guess nostalgia is also a factor here tho.

fmab is the only show i watch dub in. i know i grew up on it but listening to the first episode in sub, it just didn’t do it for me and i’m for sub all day usually. but whichever y’all choose imma watch because this show is so good

I hate dub because I can't eat while watching lmao, and it's so hard to hear if ya'll are saying anything at the same time too. I think it's nice that you give the dub a chance because people ask for it, but in the future unless you're genuinely interested in the dub I'd just suggest you don't even do a trial episode because it's just a much worse viewer experience overall edit: I also noticed they don't even subtitle or translate any of the japanese text so you're straight up just missing information by watching the dub

BUDDYYY😭my playlist buddy😭 Ok. The only argument I need is that the original language of any medium is always superior because that's literally how it was intended to sound, it's how it was written. But it definitely helps my defense that the English sounds absolute dogshit except for Roy 💀 As a neutral third party whose 1st language is neither, Japanese just sounds wayy cooler. Thank u. I find it harder to watch in dub regardless of its quality, it's really hard to pay attention to both what the guys are saying and what's going on in the show without sub. Even if you do end up going with the dub, consider adding subtitles anyway

The dub for this is really good, but sub might be better so you guys can read what's being said whenever one of you wants to make a speculation or comment. That way you don't miss any crucial information, there's a lot of subtle things in this show kind of like AOT in that sense

I actually really like the honesty at the beginning of the video. I quite love FMAB, granted i do love HxH more, but seiing you guys talking about the first episode and how it didnt fully lived up to the expectation instead of just lying to us that you like it is quite the change from all those fake reaction channels. People are raving about Roy Mustang's dub voice, so I just compared the sub and dub on YT. It baffles me that people prefer the dub VA over the sub. FMAB was what put Shinichiro (Mustang's JP VA) on my VA radar way back when I finished the show. Like others said though, maybe nostalgia plays a factor for the likeness. Could also be that whichever was watched first, sub or dub, they can't unhear the voices. The dub isn't bad though, just not better.

I personally think dub anime is better for stuff you’ve already seen once and don’t need to pay attention to as hard. Something about reading the characters words on screen while listening to the original VAs tone helps me understand most scenes a bit better. That said this is one of the legendary serviceable dubs up there with Pokémon, DBZ, Naruto etc

I am a Japanese otaku, and I will tell you that the dubbed version of FA is appreciated even by Japanese otaku who are basically critical of the dubbed version.

IF you decide to go with dub, I just ask that you still put subtitles on because you guys can probably hear the show when you talk, but for us the audio mixes with you guys talking and it can be hard to clearly hear both.

Also after hearing the dub again after so long, the fidelity on the japanese audio is sooo much better than the dubbed audio. I think a big part of what makes Ed's dub voice hard on people's ears is the poor audio quality.

I just love Jackson doing push-ups at the beginning 😂 This episode does a better job on introducing the story, and I'm glad you are more interested on it now, I appreciate your honesty at the beginning! Honestly this sub VS dub thing is getting crazy in the comments and 1 thing that people failed to recognize is that is harder to hear your comments over the dialog in the episode, people say "turn subtitles on" unfortunately crunchyroll doesn't have that option, if you watch dub, that's it, there's no subtitles, not even a translation for text on the screen which makes you lose some context and information 🥲 I'm with Cannon, Trisha was awful in dub, also Al was not really that good, you can clearly hear is a woman trying so hard to sound like a little kid, the same as Winry, and Ed is whatever. I can say there are characters that have really good actors as their VA, unfortunately is not true for everyone. Either way, you guys decide what's best for you to enjoy this.

I can't speak for all Japanese people, but I grew up in a Japanese household, and I don't recall anyone in my family complaining about the VAs speaking Japanese whenever we were watching anime (as in someone sounds cringy).

When you are watching in dub i can’t read so as a french girl it was most complicated to follow sometimes 🫣 (i understand english well but sometimes it’s just too fast)

I thought I was crazy cause I had the exact same reaction. Never watched this show before but after comparing the ep 1 clips on YT, I thought the mic quality for roy was just flat out better on the sub (for ep 1 at least). Nostalgia definitely seems to carry the dub so far cause theres no way the dub is "1000% better than sub" as some people here have been preaching. Maybe I need more comparisons though.

dub feels alright with FMA because the series really doesn't look like anime... it looks like an American animated series (minus a couple character designs) and the world of FMA is very early 1900s America obviously, so it just fits... still prefer sub though, just saying dub feels better with FMA compared to other anime

Dragon Ball subbed is so amazing actually. I grew up watching it as dubbed but when I caught up and started watching subbed, it was something to get use to after over a decade of hearing the dubbed voice actors. I guess the voices are something to get use to but I love the subbed version of DB and plan on rewatching it subbed. I can’t say which is better because they are both good in their own ways but Masako Nozawa (Goku’s VA) is a LEGEND. Her portrayal of Goku is perfect. She captures his essence like no one else could and she really brings him to life. It’s a shame some people don’t understand or give it a chance. ): Lol sorry, that comment at the end just fueled the fire in me haha. Rant over.

Y'all are being pretty disrespectful imo on the actors. I've seen lots of dubs and honestly prefer sub majority of the time. This is the one show I recommend dub to. I think you should've started dub first episode. Second episode has a lot of kid scenes obviously and kids voices are usually annoying cause it's grown people doing a kid. Troy Baker shows up in this dub and I LOVE him as his character and as a VA. I was really excited to finally have you guys watch this but it's incredibly disappointing that some of y'all are so ready to bash it. I def have more of an emotional connection to the show though. My dad passed when I was a kid unexpectedly when he was 31 and I was 9 so I instantly felt super connected to the elric brothers.

Y'all feel like it's like Pokemon in that part cause it's the same adult voice actors playing children. I feel like it's easier in Japanese for kids because they get women with deeper voices to do young boys. They dont get different voice actors in the dub tho. 😤

My main complaint I think is the people in the comments hating on the dub just to be assholes. Carter said the dub is fine but prefers sub. Some of y'all are straight trashing it though. Aot dub is actual trash imo and sub is a million times better. But FMAB just has some amazing moments that I can't imagine watching sub. The boys even noticed some of the best VA in English already in mustang and Bradley, I love Hawkeye in dub waayyy more too. We still have more amazing characters to meet that i think dub is more iconic with amazing performances

Sub is definitely good for FMAB, so you should go with whichever one you like more. I would just recommend dub for the same reason I would for Cowboy Bebop: it’s good, and it’s iconic.

Watch sub if that's what you guys are more comfortable with, but I think you should do the thing that you did with AOT and when the series is over watch the really good dub scenes. There are definitely some VA's I prefer in dub. Of the characters you've met so far I like Al's, Roy Mustang's, Bradley, Lust. It took a while for Ed's VA to grow on me, but he kills it in some scenes. I also think they do a really good job of incorporating western localization in some scenes.

Exluding ppl who are bias, or have a preconcieved opinion, I think ones preference as far as dub or sub on any given anime largely depends on which one they watched first... it's hard to switch after associating a particular voice to each character

Just like how Brig said it would be weird for someone to prefer the sub over the dub, i think this has the same feeling for a lot of people since it used to be on Toonami so a lot of us were exposed to FMA and FMAB dub first. Also i hate Dragonball Z dub. I didn't get into it as a kid because i felt like the voice didn't match the characters it was awkward.
