"Fiery water, land made of ice, and fields of sand... anyone who saw those things would be the freest person in the world". Eren actually said the exact same dialogue back in Season 1 Episode 13 titled Primal Desire. It's one of my favorite callbacks of the entire series. How fitting is it that he says this as he looks out at the view of clouds before him blissfully ignorant of the carnage and devastation below and the fact that he's depicted as a child is indicative of that ignorance. Him reverting back to his child self is a coping mechanism for him to move forward.

Fun fact: the "See you later, Eren" scene actually happened in chapter 1 of the manga but WIT replaced it with different scenes. I'm so happy Mappa added it in.

Mappa blew me away. Felt like watching a movie. Having read the manga I understand why the need another six months if THIS is the quality theyre aiming for. The final battle is absolutely insane.

"It's as you said, Floch. But we just can't give up...". Hange's words poignantly encompass one of the most important themes of Aot imo. Even though the cycle of violence and hatred will always continue, we have to try our best not to perpetuate it and even if we can't, we have to keep trying. And that's exactly what the scouts are trying to do. Because they actually had a hand in furthering the Rumbling by helping Eren get to Zeke. A major theme in Aot has always been about making choices that one thinks they will regret the least. Stopping Eren is a decision that may or may not work out in their favor, but they just don't want to regret not stopping a genocide, which is completely understandable. The scouts represent what the Survey Corps stands for: fighting against insurmountable odds for even the slightest chance of an unrealistic idealist world.

Dude the first scene of this episode is just so good that Mappa corrected and added the first panels of the manga into the readaptation of episode 1. Check out the comparison of episode 1 and this episodes readaption. WIT STUDIO didn't include the "I'll see you later, Eren" which is LITERALLY the beginning two panels of the manga. But I'm glad it's in here. Goosebumps and cried a little. THANK YOU MAPPA

The reason is that we never really got to see Armin going to speak with Annie except for once. this connection would have been a lot more meaningful if they had emphasized him being drawn to her more during season 4. It's the same reason why Conny taking Falco to his mom felt so out of nowhere and no more than a plot device to get him and Armin to Annie. We were only TOLD that Conny had been visiting his mom for years, but we didn't SEE it or any of the emotions that would have made him want to feed Falco to his mom. I think both of these ideas, Armin and Annie, Conny and Falco, were good but they just weren't fleshed out enough.

Fun fact: this line when Hanji was saying that it was her fault and she didn't give Eren an alternative plan made chaos years ago. The leaks to the manga back then mistranslated her words as "it's Eren's fault" and I remember many people started hating her for that.

Is there any valid source of Isayama saying that the anime is the most accurate version of his story? Because I’m pretty sure he never said that. In an interview he did last month, he said this about the anime: “There are things I'm not completely happy with in the manga, and so I talk to the animation team about it. That's where the differences between the manga and the anime come from, but that doesn't mean I think the anime is the final form, it's just different. For me, the manga is a bit like experiencing a live concert, and the anime is more like a well-recorded concert with editing and therefore a kind of album with arrangements.”

I felt like it was a nice touch without being too overbearing and shoving it in your face throughout the whole series; since there really wouldn’t have been a time or place for it considering everything going on. Seeing their interactions pre-time skip, you could tell he had some interest in her and hearing how he would visit her constantly and talk with her was enough in my book. I don’t think you have to see every moment for it to be good. I feel like the subtle moments makes it better. It also gave some much needed lightheartedness to the chaos and turmoil. I can definitely see where you are coming from though and not everyone has to like it. :>

Hange's scene is honestly the first time I've cried during this show, they really really elevated the scene in the manga. MAPPA is insane. I'm happy they're taking their time with the animation instead of rushing it

I was kind of surprised on how much self-reproach there was in this episode. I thought more characters would vilify and blame Eren for this calamity, but a lot of them felt responsible. Hange, the scouts, Kiyomi, the commander at Fort Salta - all placed some blame on themselves for making this happen. “It’s my fault” they think, but really, everyone is responsible and no one is to blame.

Eren’s grandparents being shown in prison during the rumbling was a cool little anime-only addition. They were most likely imprisoned for Zeke’s betrayal. Crazy to think Eren killed his grandma and grandpa

Err I got spoiled on Hange's death on YouTube while waiting for hours for the release of this episode on Crunchyroll. So I guess it kind of prepared me emotionally for the loss of Hange and I wasn't too emotional when it happened. I know she was forced to sacrifice herself for the rest of crew to escape (because of Floch), but she went out in a literal blaze of glory. You couldn't have asked for a better death. And in the moments leading up to it, we saw glimpses of the old Hange, who was so excited about riding the Cart titan. The episode was fulfulling. I didn't feel frustrated with the cliffhanger because there was so much that happened in the episode and expecting it to end soon without the final battle. (Though, can't say the same about Mandalorian 3x1, ugh, that was too short for me). I just wished Crunchyroll had better communicated the release time of the episode. I definitely could've been more productive with my time. There should've been some sort of message explaining that they have to wait for the Japan broadcast before they can start adding subtitles, which would take a while considering it was a 1 hour long special.

When Armin or Bertholdt used the colossal titan they were actively in control and "fighting". These seem to be brainless zombies just stomping the world, so Hange was able to take them out. You saw she burned, but in the past this burning effect started sooner because they were actively emitting steam / heat to increase the destruction.

My prediction since Ymir's origin reveal was that since Eren can see the memories of future Attack Titans, he would be able to see how and what he does, including the rumbling, affects the future. I think he's doing the rumbling to be the antihero, by uniting everyone in the world against him. It will end all their racist bs, and is supported by what Reiner said, and what that commander at the air base said...

Also think it's cool how in the Sinners chapter, everyone is admitting their "sins". Its basically saying that every single person has had a part in the rumbling in some way, and that unless everyone comes together, "monsters" like Eren will continue to be created

She truly deserved that friendly welcome to the afterlife, what a way to go out the show but now she's back with Moblit and Erwin 😭 also...
