Ali

Hey guys, I recommnd Koruko's basketball! 🏀 It's the best sports anime, great story, characters, action and animation. And noticed you guys might be into basketball from the nba talks. I think you guys would absolutely love it.

BRO.

If you guys like basketball, you should watch Kuroko no Basket, it's amazing.

Brady

Am at Six Flags, decisions decisions…

BRO.

Stein's Gate is insane, ya'll should def watch it.

Kelly

heyeuro

Frieren é um anime ótimo ótimo Tenho certeza que vocês iriam amar, bjos do 🇧🇷

Mitch

2 and a half hours 😱😱😱

Philbo

Please do not do another poll, please finish invincible and 86 first before you add more to your Guys plate

spring deerling

OH MY GOD ITS HERE. Why do I have to be at work 😭😭😭😭😭

Samuel Bissou

Y’all need to watch the FMAB bloopers. Like this comment so they can see it!!!

Ryan O

Code Geass is peak

Ben Martineau

So hyped for the end of one of my all time favourites, so so good. But if you don’t now watch the bloopers it was all in vain, no bloopers no point

Ale

Oh God, I'll be at home in 1h Its time, people!!!

Ali

Oh, just heard about non-shounen; STEINSSSSS GATEEEEEEE! is the best non-shounen and one of the best stories! And the characters are sooooo good. And it gives your mind/intelligence a thrill by keeping it on its toes... so it's a breath of fresh air different from shounen.

NMP

:(

AyBe

At 34:08, when the light shines on Bradley's sword to blind him, you could say it was divine intervention to help Scar as Bradley was just ranting about that very topic.

Ali

It's actually great in both dub and sub. And there is a fair amount of dialogue so keep that in mind before choosing.

studiogek

We will watch the bloopers just fyi

BigManSirob

So sad to see this reaction end... 🥲 Also PLEASE add MADOKA MAGICA, RE:ZERO, KAGUYA-SAMA: LOVE IS WAR and FRIEREN to the list of non-shounen shows for the next poll 🙏

Ryan O

LOL you can look at the full eclipse directly during the total phase. You need glasses to see when the sun is partially covered iaw NASA

Kytan

you should look into “Erased” phenomenal anime. i think its very in line of something you guys might enjoy

Thekingmonkey

The Bradley thing with the sun and the glint. I think it was a call back to the sun and the moon being a perfect being or god. Bradley was challenging the existence of god. So it all happened at the right moment for him to lose.

Jordan Grinde

RIP for Mr. Ed Blaylock who voiced King Bradley, God I miss that voice

Thomas

That one scene with the butterfly makes me feel things

aryastark

My favorite non shonen is Nana. If you guys could bring the girls back that would be a cool watch. That show changed my perception of anime.

Jed

I want to see Re:Zero, Konosuba, Frieren, Steins;Gate, Monster, Mushishi, Made in Abyss, and Violet Evergarden on that voting list. These are all top tier shows that will be non shonen for you all to watch.

Kyle

I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to watch while in line 😂

Brady

I could probably finish this whole video while in the Superman line

BRO.

3 likes & 44 comments???

Michael

Y'all gotta watch Gurren Lagann. One of the most hype anime of all time.

SleepingKnight

I really enjoyed all your final words. You understandably had your criticisms, but still admitted that part of that is due to lack of understanding and also admitting that you couldn’t think of a better resolution. Ultimately saying that you enjoyed the series. A well balanced and humble review boys :)

kai

code geass would be a great replacement and i mean great or the fate series 😁

Romeo

Code Geass type beat

kiiturii

steins;gate I'm praying, you guys would love it

Goldy

HAHHAHAHAHAHA FINALLLY

Nat Brojeni

No we need the last episode of game of thrones please

-_-Shad0w-_-

Now that FMAB is done, are we finally getting to Haikyuu or do we have to expect another poll ?

GreetswithJudgement

Monster Steins Gate Berserk Parasyte Seeing your updated tier lists after watching these beasts shall be interesting.

k; Guz

Yes guys it will be a transcending experience i promise,at this point not many anime can rival the best u watched, steins is one of them.

James

If you guys are going to go with a more matured, or seinen-type anime next, I would recommend watching Steins;Gate. Steins;Gate has well written characters, is emotionally impactful, goes deep with philosophy, and there's a reason why it's highly ranked on both MyAnimeList (currently at #3) and IMDb.

k; Guz

Steins gate is my nr.1 i think it has the potential to be top3/5 for some of the boys

Melizé

I couldn't wait to watch it so now I'm crying at work 😂😂😂

Nonos

Yes man steins gate such a masterpiece. Best time travel anime. I personally loved every minute of it lol but I know ppl say it’s slow and confusing in the beginning, which it is, so hopefully that wouldn’t affect the geks too much since it’s all worth it.

James

Carter, Cannon, and Jack would probably rank Steins;Gate after Vinland Saga. McKay and Brig wouldn't like it as much as it's not really their vibe though.

sb123

naruto???

James

Yeah, it is slow in the beginning, but it is necessary for character and world building purposes just as it was necessary in the beginning for the second season of Vinland Saga.

spring deerling

Scars character arc is amazing. Him getting the other part of his brothers tattoos is so beautiful. Like he himself is finally on the way to healing. And for him to take down the sin of wrath when he originally embodied it himself when we first saw him.

spring deerling

Imagine just being some random farmer in xing, and you see a giant monster emerge from the nearby country

bondbond53

Rewatch in SUB!!! Of course on your own but please please please rewatch in sub

bondbond53

Yeah the Bradley thing is a call back to when he tells the Ishvalans during the war 'God you say? Now this is intriguing, how much longer do you think your 'God' plans to wait before unleashing his fury? Just how many more thousands of lives must I take before he decides to strike me down?' and in this crucial moment he is taken out by this sort of divine retribution

-_-Shad0w-_-

I just want to see you guys switch up from battle action anime in general. So either a sports anime, fantasy or maybe even a romance anime would be cool to see your guys reactions to

Dio

That would be pointless and add no value

gigi

the promised neverland (let’s pretend season 2 never happened)

PantsuParty

I BEG OF YOU TO WATCH STEINS;GATE. SHIT IS PEAK FR

bondbond53

Omg guys if the whole Father/God/Transmutation circle things threw you guys off then I can't wait for you to return watching Evangelion it's gonna be peak reaction content LMAO

-_-Shad0w-_-

Who’s ‘we’ ?, also didn’t it almost win the last poll ? So really, you should turn that ‘we’ into ‘I’

bondbond53

Let's review Kimblee entirely to make more sense of the Selim ending. Despite being assigned to kill the Rockbells, and agreeing to do it, he respected them because they were risking their lives despite the danger, despite being ordered to pull out, despite having a young daughter at home. They stuck to who they were, Doctors, and kept helping people. Kimblee respected that. He kept testing Edward's No-Kill conviction by constantly threatening his life and friends, and Ed still tried to take Kimblee alive, which when clashing against Kimblee's conviction, cost Ed the fight. Likewise, he stops mid-fight with Alphonse to ask him about his goals. Why not run with the stone and get your body back, etc. Alphonse explains his feelings, wanting to save everyone and get his body back, that they shouldn't be bound to one or the other. Kimblee finds this interesting, and continues the fight. (In all likelihood he was probably just buying time to regurgitate his stone) But then Kimblee sees the Homunculus Pride ditching his conviction, that humans are worthless, by trying to dive into Edward's body. Kimblee calls him out on it, calling him a disgrace, and when Pride yells "HE'LL KILL ME!" Kimblee explains that Pride doesn't understand Edward Elric, and true to Ed's conviction, he doesn't kill Pride.

Sean

Steins;Gate Berserk 1997 Code Geass ^Super solid choices. Made in Abyss too. Here's some that are awesome but won't get voted for: Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, Higurashi, Ping Pong the Animation

alex anderson

No new shows for the time being please

-_-Shad0w-_-

Also if Haikyuu was as lame as you claim it to be, why is it so popular ? How did the movie it just dropped became the highest grossing movie in Japan this year so far ? A ‘lame’ anime as you claimed accomplished that. Hate on it all you want, it still doesn’t change the fact that it’s an amazingly written anime with great characters that so many people love

Elle B.

The first anime I ever watched and still in my top favorites. A wonderful story of forgiveness and sacrifice. Glad you all enjoyed the ride. As far as your next watch, I support the comments with Steins Gate. (Also I vote MHA or Haikyuu for the next shonen, sue me)

bondbond53

I don't really get Canon's wish to not have to make connections rather than getting all of the answers by the show. Maybe I just consume media differently

Ale

please, please, please add "Devilman Crybaby" to that list PRETTY PLEASE 😭

Lukash

LEEEEETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

bondbond53

Berserk 1997 Monster But please get to HAIKYUU

kiiturii

oh man I had forgotten so much more of this ending than I expected, it went hard

kiiturii

I have a feeling Carter especially would be really into the confusing mystery of the start

kingkoopa98

I think you should watch Cowboy Bebop but I think that only got like 3 percent in the last poll lol

James

It's been about a year since they've seen something that's not shonen, and Steins;Gate would be perfect to break into something new.

Nicholas

Berserk 1997 then read the manga. It's incredible.

ssj4rit

Psychopass S1 is a banger

Hasani101

Please watch the dub bloopers for this please please please

Dotz

im praying they release naruto within the next few hors

Nonos

Made in abyss is a good one too. Worldbuilding and adventure is great. But I’ll root for steins gate and code geaas. Or berserk too

Scarlett

you guys should check out the bloopers now that you've finished the show

Andrew Muggleton

Made in Abyss (if someone else hasn’t mentioned)

Brady

Yeah opening/ending ranking would be good too, I love almost all of FMAB’s songs

Denzel Mwandha

Was that Trigun Stampede slander I heard come out of Canon’s mouth in the end? 🤨

spring deerling

Yes, the eclipse being symbolism for God can be seen as god getting one in on Bradley. He states so himself that it must be divine intervention. The author stated in an interview though that if this had happened when Bradley was younger, the good guys would've lost.

spring deerling

Unfortunately sometimes people need things spelt out for them 🙃 it drives me crazy especially when I'm keeping up w current manga chapter updates if a couple series and people's reading comprehension just goes out the door and they become reactionaries

spring deerling

For some other recommendations I really enjoyed death parade and erased

kiiturii

if you do ever rewatch it like you said, I would highly recommend giving the sub a try, personally I do agree that this dub is 100% one of the better dubs out there (kaguya sama still the goat tho) but in the sub Ed's va is the same as Hange's and I just think that's so perfect, yes some of the characters don't sound as cool, but they're still great even if their voices aren't as deep lol..

Alex Ramirez

A solar eclipse is sometimes referred as a sign of God. It's poetic that King Bradley who never believed in God would meet his end by the reflecting light from the solar on his sword. Back in the Ishvalan War he told Ishvalans to stop asking for God to strike him down and for them to do it instead. It wasn't until Scar fought King Bradley with his two hands that "God" intervened to cause King Bradley to lose the fight.

And the force field thing is just hohenhiem taking the brunt of the attack that father was throwing. No one else would've been able to do that, when hohenhiem does that stuff it's actively depleting the energy in his own philosophers stone. He's not a fighter and the main reason we don't see him participate as much is because of that and to not waste his stone. Ed has already shown his ability to understand how to use his own soul as a source of power and like how pride was able to interfere with Alphonse because of the blood relation to hohenhiem, it can be assumed that also has something to do with Ed being able to infiltrate pride. It isn't shown as much in the anime but in the manga kimblee is very much someone who HATES hypocrites. He greatly admired people who will stick to their own philosophies in the face of danger. It's also theorized that someone who sort of embodies the sin may be able to survive or maintain their individuality when stuck in a stone. Like how ling is greedy and greed by his own nature would probably want as many souls as he could. Kimblee is a very prideful individual and may have been able to survive in pride because of that. What he did to pride was the same thing that happened to envy, he has no stone and the only part that's left is the own piece of father's soul he was born from. That's why two years later selim is older, he doesn't have any other souls to burn and keep him young. I think he'll probably just be a normal kid, he might be prideful still but pride can be good in it's own way. The thing in his forehead is just one of the markings homonculi have on their bodies

AnonX

Honestly, I was expecting a lot when the army of dub fans came in huge and said that the dub was amazing. Watched the whole thing with the boys because this is one of my favorite shows ever. And now I'm more convinced than ever that the dub is garbage and the sub is 100000x better. And I honestly believe that the dub did take from their experience. Amazing scenes just didn't have the same impact because the dub was so much inferior. I think it's unlikely, but I do hope that they rewatch the sub some day. I think that'd be cool. Also, you understand the show a lot more after a few rewatches.

AnonX

My only problem with Berserk is that being a manga reader, I still don't think the 97 show does it justice. No adaptation so far has come close to doing a decent job at it. It's just such an amazing work and it's so sad that we don't have anything to this day that has adapted it properly. Also, I think it'd be dope for them to watch Ping Pong the Animation. I'd love to hear their thoughts on the style.

AnonX

And it's so sad that only season 1 is a banger. So much potential lost.

AnonX

I'm so glad that you guys have watched this. That was probably my 6th or 7th full rewatch of this show. Thank you for the ride!

corLeonis

maybe a movie before going to another series: Princess Mononoke I won't get tired in recommending this hahaha

inspirit llama

dr stone is a really cool show for me. very cool characters and amazing world building

N P

My vote is for Gurren Lagann

Jakub Zielinski

you should add ajin and 91 days to the list

BigManSirob

Honestly, I want to give some props to the discussion at the end. I agree with a lot of what you guys said and even the takes I disagree with I feel are explained really well and I can see where you guys are all coming from. Definitely an all time post-episode discussion. Also just one thing I want to point out. Since you guys started watching this show FMAB is no longer the No. 1 on MyAnimeList. For the past few months Frieren has usurped it as the highest rated... Maybe this is a sign that you guys should watch it?!?

KazumaSpitfire

For seinen I'd recommend 91 Days and Dorohedoro

KazumaSpitfire

while I like Dr. Stone too, Cannon specifically said not to recommend shounen anime

aryastark

Agree. The best way to experience berserk is to read the manga and 1997 is the best adaptation. The movies were ok too.

aryastark

This is true. There are whole arcs in berserk that have never been adapted on screen. It’s my favorite series of all time and I want them to experience it, but unfortunately they can’t film themselves reading the manga lol.

Brittany Mitchell

Haikyuu gang step up!!!!! It does cook Brig, take half the Patreon's word for it!! It will be voted in one day :D only a matter of time! Others that I think would be good less typical shonen-y options for you guys: - Monster - Re:Zero - Mob Psycho 100 - Frieren - Jojo

Ale

I loved your discussion at the end, I perfectly understood your takes, even the ones that I don't agree I can easily see what you mean. I just thank that you guys finished another one of my favorites 🥺❤️ Also, a side note, maybe unnecessary but I just wanted to comment about the dub, like I watched all your reactions but I don't see how this dub is better than sub like everybody was saying, it's definitely carried by nostalgia, sadly not all of us are from the USA, so I didn't find it did justice to the Japanese 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just once again, please add Devilman Crybaby to the poll 🥺

TJC

Frieren please

Michael H

Better than the sub? Probably not. It’s just one of the handful of dubs we have that are actually very watchable.

Nicholas

Love frieren. However I feel like they may not vibe with it.

Jed

My problem with the ending to this show stems from the characters plot, not their growth but the plot around what happens to them. From episode 58 and onwards the main characters start acting so weird, Roy's determination is just gone and he gets sidelined, yes I know he is blind but where does his conviction go? Scar decides to give up his way of life and religion because... he was gonna lose the fight. If anything he should have died getting a trading blow with Bradley as both of their ideals match up with the wrong message the show is trying to provide, so both of their storylines should have ended at that fight. Ed just becomes horrible at fighting and cant do anything because the plot decides it until he gets to the final fight with Father where he just becomes good at fighting again because he's the main character and he cant just sit in the back. Greed gets legit shafted here too, he always wanted friends but he already had them when we first meet him, so why does this new group hold so much more value to him? It was just weird to see, he never liked anyone but Ling and only a little bit. He went from being one of the coolest and most favorite characters of mine to getting the worst plot decision in the show other than Scar. The other plot problems I have are more towards the message of the show itself. Everything was setup for people to have such huge losses and in the end legit everyone gets what they wanted from the start. The whole show is about equivalent exchange yet at the end all of their problems are solved by having a remaining philosopher stone and no one has to lose anything for it. It also heavily bothers me that for a show based around science and realism (to an extent) the final villain is beaten by the power of friendship. Its one of my main gripes with the earlier animes and this show suffers sooooo hard from it right at the end, the entire show is about how each character grits their teeth and makes the hard decisions when it matters most. However right at the last few episodes no one makes any difficult choice except for Scar and his isn't really emotion based its just so he can win his fight. Yes it means something because he chose to use his brothers side of alchemy but not because he loved his brother but because Bradley was going to kill him. As for the villain, Father was a great antagonist... Until he wasn't. Its never explained why he wants to gain the power of "God" just that he wants it cause he's evil. Maybe I'm missing something there but I really don't see why he wanted that power so badly, he already had the most power in the verse along with the ability to control other beings by using philosopher stones. If he wanted to take over the world he could have already done that, so why does he want to meet Truth so badly. If its for knowledge then sure I can see that but again what does he not know that he wants so badly, he never states it and the plot never gives us clues as to why. I'm 99% sure its just cause he is evil and that is lame to me for such a cool concept for a villain. Someone please explain to me if I am wrong because I'm probably missing something here. I would also like to say I don't really understand Truth all that much, what is it, why does it reside over their world, what's its purpose? Is it just to be cruel and make sure you can't resurrect anyone? Does it actually control their world or is it just a barrier guarding the real "God" of this universe. Nothing really gets answered here so I think its a let down to see because once again, a really cool concept that doesn't get fleshed out for some reason. Maybe I'm just too dumb to figure it out idk. For final thoughts I do like this anime and episodes 1-58 are fantastic and easily a 8-8.5 out of 10 for me. Its not my favorite and I know for FMAB fans that is probably unheard of but I really wanted it to be insane like people claim it to be. As for episodes 58-64 its good, the animation is good, the concepts are amazing, the soundtrack placement is astounding. It just lacks the things I pointed out earlier and that's why it really feels so anti climatic for me, the show set up so many amazing things just for it to feel meh right at the end. When I first saw Father opened those gates I was shocked and in aww just like the Geks were and then only for me to feel let down since nothing really came of it. He gets the power of "God" and its immediately stripped away like taking candy from a baby. Overall the show is an 8 out of 10 for me. I know my comment will probably get a lot of responses defending the anime so I want to say that this is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own so don't hate me for thinking this isn't the #1 anime of all time. If people have answers/want to tell me where I am wrong please feel free. Sorry for such a long post but this anime does deserve a review cause of well acclaimed it is.

Ale

Oh, it's definitely not better than the sub. But tell that to the people that believe it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Max Dalton

Freiren is essential

Michael H

Haha I like them both pretty equally, to be honest; although, there’s probably some nostalgia bias in there. I only push for the dub because of how few opportunities there are to actually experience dub without dying a little inside. FMAB is definitely one of them.

Yoshi Go baa

Parasyte the maxim is a good one

Thank you guys for watching FMAB! I was quietly watching your reaction and enjoy it... Rewatching the anime after so many years was refreshing and nostalgic, nice reaction and conclusion. Really excited of what will be next!

Dude Man McGee

A 2 hour and 40 minute gek reaction? Just what daddy needed.

Enma

Other than Monster and Berserk, I suggest Fate/Zero, Devilman Crybaby, Re:Zero, FLCL, Pluto, Kaguya-sama, Hellsing, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure cause why not

John Paul

This rewatch has made me realize how many great female characters are in this show. They stand out so much especially in this day and age.

spring deerling

Roy didn't have to clap before that is correct, he has circles on his gloves. HOWEVER, he did get stabbed through both his hands 😅 so those circles are broken and covered in blood. That's why he's putting his hands together now

Mohammad Zaidi

We NEED Haikyuu or Code geass. Haikyuu would be a rly good intro to sports anime, and code geass is a rly good replacement for something like FMAB

spring deerling

McKay's face leading up to and during Al's sacrifice was so evil LMAO. I always get chills and tear up when I see it. The kid who had the most to gain sacrifices himself to save his brother.

corLeonis

Movie suggestion: Princess Mononoke Series suggestion Baccano Durarara Haikyuu Frieren (would love to see you react to this , this is a chill anime by the way 😊)

Mitch

I do agree that father and his defeat was a little anticlimactic but pretty much every single plot point besides that was perfect to me. Everyone’s character conclusion felt so satisfying.

Thomas Strunk

1:53:50 "she just cooked us" lmao

ssj4rit

I don’t specifically agree with your exact complaints but overall I sympathize. I’ve watched this show 2 times and I’d say it’s the best 8/10 show I’ve ever seen. Really good show but it doesn’t quite stick with me after a while like other series.

KilaNIX93

FRIERENNNNN!!!!!!! add to the poll and watch..

ZappyZ

Other than Hellsing, Id be down for all of these lol but I know thats just a personal dislike of it.

studiogek

You’ve been requesting steins gate for so long James I hope you know your comments are the reason why we are doing our alt playlist for more mature type shows! Can’t wait to see how the poll shakes out

aubrey

aight im seeing a lot of people recommend made in abyss, but i want to give a very very heavy suggestion not to watch that show. the author has been said many times to be into little kids. this isnt surprising considering show has a disproportionate amount of gross and fetishy things happen to the main 2 children characters (r/pe, constant urination, intense gore and medical experimentation/torture, etc...). the plot and worldbuilding are no where near good enough to drown out the weird torture of 2 children for however many episodes it is. its a weird asfk show sorry to say, like they talk about the boys (a Child, mind u) penis like 10 different times. i beg yall dont fill up a watch slot with that shit

Naaman Morton

its is more of a slice of life journey than action, I feel the content was really good but not as much action as other anime which isn't a bad thing but may leave some wishing for more

haley!

heavy agree more people need to talk about this regarding this show

Naaman Morton

also with them being able to force someone to see the truth(like they did with roy) it kind of makes their reasoning for sparing the main character pointless if they can just grab a random person at any point.

TJC

Idk they're Lord of the Rings fans so I think they will appreciate the characters and story.. There's some great action scenes too and beautiful animation. The show isn't long so they can get to another faster than starting one with multiple seasons.

Alexis Hunting

For a replacement, it would be nice to watch a quick 1 season show like Erased. You guys have some other shows going on, and FMAB definitely took a backseat for awhile. Something short but GOOD! 🫡

Alexis Hunting

I’d be down for some Kaguya. I definitely want to see them diving into some new anime genres!!

This show was sooo good if y’all have a chance please please watch theeee BLOOPERS

You guys should watch the bloopers

Code geass cooks ,the main character is better than Eren

ShadowCat

So excited y'all finished FMAB. It's such a good journey. It was great to rewatch it after so much time. I think while we vote on a show, y'all should watch a movie next! Princess Mononoke let's gooooo! And then for a series: Cowboy Bebop, Haikyuu!, Frieren, Parasyte, Erased, Psychopass are all solid

G

The dub is also one of the best of all time

Daniel Salva

Saidah

I think a really cool fact about all the 7 deadly sins is they all died ironically to their direct sin. Lust was killed by a man, sloth died over exerting himself, envy died killing himself because of his own realization of jealousy, greed died sacrificing himself selflessly, wrath died peacefully and fulfilled, pride died humiliated and outsmarted, gluttony died being eaten. Kinda a slay

Cannon Andrus

We watched 2 episodes with our discord and I didn’t really jive with it. Maybe 2 episodes wasn’t enough though

Kelly

Just finished watching this finale with you all. Thank you for watching FMAB! I really enjoyed watching you guys react to my personal favorite anime. Looking forward to seeing you watch other shows!

Brady

^ Probably the first time I've heard this strong of an opinion against the Dub. Everyone I've seen/talked to has said they at least liked the FMAB Dub. Thinking it's garbage and so much more inferior to the Sub is just wild to me

Brittany Mitchell

Wow we've finally come to the end of the 8 month journey! You guys watching FMAB is what made me join the Patreon! I'm not planning to go anywhere soon though :D FMAB is such a classic. Some of those tropes that may seem overdone sometimes were partially pioneered with this series (started serialization in 2001!). I would quote this as my favourite anime for YEARS, and it still holds up, still in my top 10, the strength of the characters and magic system carry it for me. Loved the final thoughts, looking forward to what comes next!

Isabella Kay

I think this show is best binge watched because of how complicated the plot can be sometimes. Watching it over the course of several months can make you forget some key concepts. I still loved your reactions anyway! Looking forward to more from you guys!

Isabella Kay

One of my favorite parts of the finale is how they emphasize that everything Greed wants was originally a desire of his Father. So when Greed realizes that all he truly wanted was friendship, that is a clue to the audience that that was also the true desire of the Dwarf in the Flask, even if he didn't know it. And so Truth mocked him for removing these key parts of himself which would have led him to happiness.

botanbutton

While you're entitled to your opinion, some of these questions got me scratching my head because they're pretty clear to an extent. Like, the final villain wasn't beaten by the power of friendship? He was beaten with loooong, careful planning by Hohenheim, the knowledge that Scar's brother put together, coordination and teamwork between all the important characters and groups, and everyone beating his ass to make him use up the energy in his Philosopher's Stone. Ed did not use the power of friendship with that last punch, lmao. And then Father (or really the Dwarf in the flask), and what his motives were with swallowing god? He wanted to be free and free to take in and learn all knowledge, the knowledge of the world. Swallowing god would give him that knowledge (or he thought). He was just arrogant to think he deserved it. He was powerful, sure, but it wasn't just so he could be evil and strong. He was amassing power in order to specifically swallow god, which required a huge philosopher's stone made from all the people in Amestris. As for Truth, it's not meant to be fully answered. Not even characters in the show can fully understand Truth. Truth called itself many things and, it's whatever people want it to be. To me, it's the principal of equivalent exchange itself. Like checks and balances, to make sure humans don't get too arrogant. That's why Ed's answer was right. In order to walk out with Al's whole body, he gave up his portal of truth, his ability to perform alchemy, his ability to create...like a god.

Hohenheim got me sobbing. Lmao, why now??? I never cried before on previous watches. 😭 Jeez.

Saidah

Fr?? Awesome didn’t watch the entire video lol

kiiturii

has been said to be, or has said to be? there's a pretty big difference, at least have some sources for that kind of an accusation.. I've only seen two seasons but it kinda seemed like the whole point was to make the viewer uncomfortable

Cable-Tv

"Angel Beats!" Definitely should give it a try if you're into good stories. It makes you question life a bit, in a good way. Great and unique story, overwhelming even.

botanbutton

@Naaman Morton Uuuuh no, they couldn't just grab a random person. It had to be someone that understood alchemy in the first place, I'm sure. And then, it cost alot to actually do it. It was a last-ditch effort, that's why they didn't use it until now.

Mohammad Zaidi

This is such a good shorter show to watch. Same kind of mature genre/vibe as AOT

Mohammad Zaidi

Kaiji ultimate survivor is so underrated it’s a shame more people haven’t seen it! Highly recommend to anyone else reading the comments

Mohammad Zaidi

Parasyte is another one people have been commenting that belongs on a more mature list!

-_-Shad0w-_-

Also fun fact: It’s in the top 15 highest grossing anime films in Japan of all time. Haikyuu really is doing wonders compared to a lot of other anime, the only other sports anime film in the top 15 is Slam Dunk ( which is to be expected since it’s manga has the most sales out of all sports anime )

izzy

this was the first anime i ever watched, literally when i was in 4th grade :,) i always rewatch it every few years. it instilled so many good lessons in me when i was a kid, it's really powerful in a way that's rare and different from a lot of modern shows. i love dark shit but this show is just so grounding, it inspires you and makes you feel good. the nostalgia is sooo strong. a really deep theme and beautifully written unique and diverse characters. i think it's also important to remember how old it is! you can see in a lot of modern shows like jjk, where they drew inspiration from fma and then expanded upon them. loved your guys's analysis and post-discussion! things definitelyy are clearer upon multiple rewatches, but ofc it's not perfect. if you like the story i would 100% recommend reading the manga - or if you just want to explore an alternative ending, i think you all would love the original 03 show. it's a lot darker and really good in different ways. i just prefer this bc it's how the author originally intended it but 03 was actually what i watched first, and includes things that are manga-accurate, that this show left out bc it had already been animated.

@kiiturii Tsukushiro Yuuri, the creator of the Made in Abyss anthology and friend of Akihito Tsukushi (the author of Made in Abyss), made an entire page spread about how Akihito Tsukushi loves children an abnormal amount. In one part of the page he tells a story about when he and Akihito went to watch a street performer, and Akihito said "I was only looking at children in the audience." The panel afterwards says "Tsukushi's fondness for children is absolute! (You can tell just from looking at his work, though!)". The work in question being the torture of children physically, mentally, and sexually. My wording was bad, and while there is no exact claims from Akihito that he is into children, I think it is obvious to anyone with eyes that the author is at the very least an absolute weirdo. You can make the viewer uncomfortable through your work, and can have your work have dark themes, but the consistent and graphic use of children to do so is in my opinion disgusting and unjustifiable.

kiiturii

oh, that lol. I mean most people just took that as a joke, as just Tsukushi being self aware (since it is published with his blessing after all). It's not like an expose or anything, Tsukushi being sus because of his work has always been a thing in the community. The whole story revolving around children is pretty essential to many of the themes it covers, it's like a fucked up coming of age story. Another example of something similar would be oyasumi punpun kinda, it's of course based in reality unlike MIA which is fantasy, but it's also got preteens doing certain graphic activities because it's simply meant to be a very graphic and real look into children growing up. Idk unless there's something real that comes out about the author I personally just don't care, maybe that's an L take but I don't choose to see the worst in people without some basis for it, he can be a weirdo, most creatives are lol

Kaan_869

Frieren is by a long way my anime of the year. Everything about it is just perfect

Alex Ramirez

I didn't bother with it, it looks so bad compared to the 1998 version. I need to read the manga cause the 1998 anime does its own thing for the ending and doesn't continue like the Manga did.

FrenchyK1

I WAS ASLEEP. AND I HAVE WORK NOW. FML Also, I have thoroughly enjoyed every discussion we've had dude. I really enjoyed talking to you about the show. Stay safe man!

Martina

As you guys are liking One Punch Man, you will love Mob Psycho 100 too. It's from the same mangaka and has 3 short seasons (10-12 eps each). The animation is absolutely amazing, it has wholesome messages and it's funny af.

ooAlmondMilk

I'd recommend Steins;Gate (+ Steins;Gate 0), Made in Abyss, Code Geass, the Promised Neverland (s1), Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun 1998

Asbjørn Kennedy

I think you guys make a lot of valid points. A lot of the things that doesn't "make sense" to you is fair, for me they do kind of make sense but not enough for me to give a satisfactory explanation, but maybe that is just cope on my end. In any case Arakawa Hiromu is a fantastic author, and at the time FMA:B was airing it was clearing pretty much everything else like it, at least in my opinion. For me FMA:B is a solid 9 and it is probably my favorite shounen-type show.

Asbjørn Kennedy

As far as non-shounen recommendations go, first let me say that that prospect has me hyped up like crazy. I'll give some recommendations for shows I consider exceptional and would love for you to react to, but that I don't really remember seeing much in comments or polls - just to give some variety: The Shounen/Seinen and Shoujo/Josei 'genres' are a bit weird because the definitions often vary. Originally it came from what the publisher of the source material had as a primary target demographic, but over time it became synonymous with the tropes that got reused by the authors within those magazines, or even the overall structure of the story. The Apothecary Diaries: The light novel is marketed towards shoujo/josei, but the manga adaptation is marketed towards seinen (older male). It seems the anime leans more towards the latter however. Easily the most "currently popular" show on this list, but it definitely deserves the praise. A fantastic recent show that cannot be recommended enough. 24 episodes. Chihayafuru: Josei and a pretty unconventional "sports" anime. Three seasons of 24 episodes, with more to come, the manga was finished two years ago. Kaguya-sama: Love is War: A seinen romantic comedy. Probably my favorite show I watched in 2023. Three 12-episode seasons and a movie. A Place Further Than the Universe: This is an anime original and therefore hard to place on a demographic spectrum. A short 12-episode Slice of Life that is inspirational and moving. Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Also just known as just Madoka Magica, and also an anime original. The less you know about this show the better, but it is absolutely one of the GOATs of last decade. 12 episodes and a movie. Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: Also known as "When They Cry" or "Higurashi: When They Cry". The oldest show on the list, and ngl you can see that. Even compared to other shows at the time it didn't have great animation. HOWEVER, it has often been labelled as one of the best horror experiences that anime has to offer - and often praised in this aspect even by people that usually dislike horror. Horror isn't the only thing it has to offer though, because outside of an amazing story it also has one of the most intricate mysteries, and I believe it would be exceptional for you guys to come up with theories on what the F. is going on!! The primary story is contained in 'Higurashi no Naku koro ni' and the second season, 'Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai'. There are a bunch of OVAs that can be watched after the main story, like Higurashi Rei, Kai, Gou and Sotsu. The latter two came out pretty recently but bombed pretty hard among the fanbase, with most thinking that they are better left untouched (others did genuinely seem to like it though). This recommendation mostly goes to just the original main story, which is then two seasons of 26 and 24 episodes. Oh and just a final shoutout - Steins;Gate is great as well, didn't put it on the list because it has already been mentioned. Fun fact Steins;Gate, Higurashi and Fate/Stay Night are all adapted from visual novels, and those are some of the highest rated visual novels on vndb (which is like imdb but for visual novels). Mini-shoutout to CLANNAD which is also a top-rated visual novel with an AMAZING anime adapation, only reason I didn't put it on the list is because I'm not sure how you guys would like it.

Matthias Kufner

FMAB has one of my favourite endings, just cause of the Truth scenes of Father and Ed. As in, reading into the philosophy that the author is positing.

FrenchyK1

It's not just that Lust was killed by a man. She was killed by a man believed to be a womaniser, who was deeply in love with someone. Someone Lust was threatening. She was killed by love. Pride died after being willing to abandon his pride as a homunculus. He always looked down on humans, but on the verge of death, he was willing to become one. And Envy killed himself because he was pitied. Pity is the opposite of Envy. He was envious of humans, and hated that they pitied him. He was small, pathetic and disgusting. They felt sorry for him, and he couldn't stand it.

Ben U

Highly recommend the very under-watched Megalobox. It's a boxing anime set in a slightly futuristic world where boxing is replaced by meglaboxing in which the fighters put on mechanic gears that enhance their speed strength defense and whatnot. The story centers around "junk-dog" an illegal alien that has no name and does fixed matches to get by. After a fateful meeting with the current world champ Yuri, he decides to drop the match-fixing and fight his way to the top in the world championship to face Yuri once again. The first season is a pure hype thrill ride while the second season is more dramatic and character-focused, serving as an extended epilogue. Both seasons are 13 episodes so the show itself is only 26 episodes. While they're very different, I think it's still pretty similar to Vinland Saga, and out of the 100+ animes I've watched it's one of the very few that I consider a 10/10.

James

Carter would probably love the mystery, having philosophical discussions, and having discussions on the physics of time-traveling in Steins;Gate, but I can't see McKay and Brig liking it.

Kaibur

I'm absolutely praying that steins gate wins the poll, imo it would just be such an ideal show for the geks and the channel. its got so much content and richness to it and explores a different type of genre than what they've shown on the channel before

Ly

You will absolutely love Code Geass! I also recommend Erased - a very good thriller

Julian Sorenson

I absolutely recommend Erased! Its a great show

NINJA SWORD

mob psycho is one you will love for sure and its got one of the best chars in anime

k; Guz

Rintaro Okabe is my favourite protagonist in any media, there's a reason the shows been in top 3 for over 10 years on MAL

Niklas Neumann

You are on a good way. For now you are missing the classics - Cowboy Bebop und Samurai Champloo, but maybe you want to dip into the Fate universe with Fate Zero and Fate unlimited bladeworks. I really think you would like Mob Psycho, Frieren or Psycho-Pass.

Shpitz

psycho pass

BigManSirob

Yo, any sort of timeline on when the poll's gonna happen?

Dorra

The promised neverland

I think it's important to remember that the "final fight" was really fought in two parts. The first part was everyone's massive transmutations being activated. First Father using his to steal the souls of all Amestrians and then using that power to swallow "god" and gain his new powers. Then Hohenheim using his to free all the Amestrian souls from Father, which weakened his body from unparalleled power to his old level of whatever remaining souls of Xerxes that he had left, meaning that while he still had his "god" alchemical powers his body was struggling to contain it. Then the final transmutation was done by Scar and that unlocked the true power of alchemy that Father had locked away, allowing the alchemists to put up a better fight in the second half. Then the second half of the fight, was just them trying to not necessarily defeat father, but rather deplete enough of his remaining energy that he would lose to the "god" he was trying to keep sealed inside himself. The big climax of the fight really was in the first half, and then the second half was just the fight winding down for the most part. I think the biggest high point though of the second half was absolutely Alphonse first taking the hit for May and being torn up, and then sacrificing himself to save Ed. The second half could have been scripted a little better just in terms of Father using a bit more of his new power or at least them suggesting that he was stuck being pinned down because if he attacked too much it would have used more of his already low energy levels. They also could have suggested that because Father was so intent on believing he had become an omnipotent being that he allowed himself to be overwhelmed without realizing it. He went hunting for soul energy but once he found himself in the middle of the battlefield he made no attempt to flee or go into the city instead where it would've been easier to harvest souls. Also considering how much energy he lost on the battlefield, he would've been better off just fighting the alchemists down below and then getting soul energy later at his leisure. The second half was more a vehicle for everyone to have their moments but it didn't really allow for Father to fight back that much and really establish himself beyond his moment of truth.

Ruby Cardozo

This is a long shot, But it would be cool if you guys did a romance like fruits basket :D

KazumaSpitfire

Maybe a horror/supernatural anime like Dark Gathering

spring deerling

It wasn't that Ed getting back his human arm makes him stronger, he literally couldn't transmute with his metal one gone and was a sitting duck

FrenchyK1

So, I don't know how long this is gonna be, but I'm hoping to give context (and opinions) about your issues with the ending. But before I do, I think it's fine that you don't think it's perfect, and I'm not trying to change your mind necessarily. Just help you understand some things a bit better. And, just quick,Jack, this isn't technically a remake. FMA 03 has a very different story and ending. Might be worth watching at some point. Kimblee. He's a strange man. He respects people who have their convictions, even if he disagrees with them. Like the Rockbells, Scar, Ed, etc. To him, when Pride abandons his "homuculi are superior" mindset, and attempts to take over a human body, he's betraying his convictions, and therefore Pride no longer has Kimblee's respect. Kimblee believes that Pride should have died a homonculus, and not attempt to live inside a human body. And the reason Kimblee retains his individuality is a combination of two main things. 1) Kimblee adores the sound of people screaming and suffering. So the screams anchor him. They remind him who he is. And 2) the time he spent inside Pride. Remember, Kimblee was absorbed about 6 hours before the final fight ended. He didn't necessarily have time to lose himself in the sea of souls. The mark on Selim's head is from where Ed entered Pride as a philosphers stone. Ed is the only person we know who is able to use his souls energy like that. We first saw it when he healed himself. He turned his soul into a stone, and bypassed equivalent exchange. It's possible he's able to do this because his father is a Stone himself. I think it's important that in the end, Father loses simply because he was greedy. He went from "I'd hate to be guilty of asking too much, but I think I'd be happy to just leave this flask" to "I just wanted to consume God. What's wrong with that?". He changes so much, and in the end, it's his own hubris that caused him to fail. Had he just been content to leave the flask, he probably would have had a great life. He would have been happy. But he never was, because he kept wanting more. And that leads in to the Truth. I think you're right about how Ed wins by learning to accept the truth of the world. I think Truth acts primarily as temptation, and Ed "wins" when he removes the temptation to alter the truth of the world. His Alchemy. Ed and Al are the only 2 people who could do what Ed did, as they were unique. Their doors were connected, as they mixed their blood at the start. If Mustang gave up his gate, he wouldn't be able to leave. He'd be stuck there forever. Speaking of Mustang, he does become Fuhrer by the way. And likely changes a law so he can marry Hawkeye, as Arakawa stated the only reason they weren't together was military fraternisation rules. The reason Al lost his whole body was because 1) he wanted to feel the warmth of his mother again, and 2) because it meant Ed lost his only remaining family. It was a punishment for them both. While Bradley losing there may seem cheap, it's actually very symbolic. The eclipse was 'God'. In Alchemy, when the sun and moon combine, a perfect being, or God, is created. In that moment, Bradley was talking about how God did nothing to save Ishvalans, and how he never believed in God. And yet it was the combination of the sun and moon that caused him to lose. It was divine intervention. Scars circle did not come out of nowhere. That was the notes from the North. The research his brother did, back before Marcoh defeated Envy the first time. You just forgot, which is understandable. I agree that it's cool that Ed and Mustang have different approaches to the stone. Ed knows that the soul is what's alive. Look at Al. If Ed thought the souls weren't alive, he'd also have to think Al isn't alive. To Ed, using the stone is killing someone. But to Mustang, it's a sacrifice that benefits the family of those he's using to see again. Greed never really understood what he wanted. He claims he wanted it all, but he was always content to have nothing while with his friends. In those final moments, he simply realised that all he had ever wanted was friends. If he had become king of the world, he still wouldn't have been happy. He didn't just change his mind. He just realised what he wanted. While it may seem strange that he was so slow when going after Ed, but fast for Greed, to me it was two things. With Greed, he's closer to death. It could be explained away by Adrenaline. Or, and I prefer this explanation, he was happier to consume more energy when going after Greed, because the stone contained more energy then he expended. If he has used that energy going after Ed, he would have used up more than 1 souls worth of energy. For anyone wondering about the prevalence of milk, Arakawa grew up on a dairy farm, and drew herself as a cow. Just a little fun fact. Also, the manga and this show ended super close to one another. So I can see why you might think the ending is rushed. The last few episodes of the anime weren't based on the finished manga, but a storyboard she had made for them. Yes, I've watched the show a lot, lol.

FrenchyK1

And as for it being number one, I think the reason is that FMA:B isn't polarising. I've never really met anyone who didn't like it. But with shows like AoT, Death Note, etc., people can have very different opinions. Take AoT. Some people hate the final season, and it ruins the whole show for them. Some people can't get into it. Some people love the whole thing. If 90% of the people who watch FMA:B rate it around 9.4 out of 10 like you guys did, its gonna stay high. Whereas with AoT, if 50% rate it 9.0+, and the other 50% rate it 5.0-, its not gonna be as high. FMA:B is just consistent for most people, and that's why it's number one. Doesn't mean its the best anime ever, just that it's safe for a lot of people.

Dean Cyphers

Mob psycho 100 Code Geass Berserk 1997 These are some hits 👊🏻

Dean Cyphers

We’ve heard some stellar voice acting this show including these last few episodes with Bradley and greed and hohenheim, honestly so many of them lol. There are some bad dub voices in this but nowhere near the levels to be called garbage through and through. We get it, sub is the safe option and original language, but failing to actually hear good dub voice acting when it’s most likely your native language already…is Bewildering. You can prefer sub and also recognize dubbing talent when it’s painfully obvious 😂

Kyle

we all caught a stray at the end

Kyle

now it's time for beyond journeys end...

Denzel Mwandha

I liked it from the very first episode but I guess everyone has their own tastes

spring deerling

Ed and winrys proposal is so dorky and so them. I like that Ed was dressed like hohenhiem in that scene, even his hair was out of his braid and worn like hohenhiem. He finally accepted him as his father. I believe there was never a kiss scene for them because the author wasn't confident in her abilities to draw people kissing lol. So we just get a hug as a send off.

spring deerling

Ruh roh. I didn't know that. I don't like nge cause of all the kid stuff and how a lot of the merch/figs plays into it. I know a lot of people like berserk but SA fictional or real makes me sick to my stomach and I just can't bring myself to consume it because of some of the stuff that happens in it.

Dylan Roy

great reaction series glad y'all enjoyed this classic so much, I understand how individual souls retaining consciousness within Selim and father might seem weird, but I always interpreted that as just the show reenforcing the value of a single soul. especially a soul that is confident within itself and driven. kimblee greed and ed all had enough belief in their values and goals to retain limited control and the homunculus' that failed to recognize the power of a human soul got surprised by the impact they have which results in their defeat. very thematic IMO

Dylan Roy

also would love a mob psycho reaction next

FrenchyK1

Mustangs voice actor is Travis Willingham. Probably best known for being a cast member on Critical Role. His wife, Laura Bailey, voiced Lust.

neko

The shounen genre or the right way to say it, 'the shounen demographic' type anime is bigger than what u guys think. Most of the shounen shows u guys watch are part of a genre called battle shounen which is the most popular genre in shounen but there's much more out there such as romance, comedy, rom-com, slice of life etc. I'm not against on getting into seinen shows, just wanna clear up this misunderstanding in case u guys are not awared of it.

G

It would be different if you guys binged it 100% . Also all the hype around it with it being number 1 and the goat . Probably makes it not as good because ur expectations were so high . Compared to if you watched it fresh

FrenchyK1

Thank you. I was literally taking notes of what they said at the end so I could address as many of their concerns as possible.

Chris Daniel

Love code Geass! That would be fun. Not sure it's really up yalls ally, but I love Claymore and Promised Neverland.

Joydan Bri’an

here to advocate for heavenly delusion and the first season of promised neverland. still waiting on that second season tho. i heard they announced it but nothing came from it yet…….lmaooo

Mitch

Your work has not gone unnoticed 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Kai-lo

I feel like because anime is fiction you kinda have to learn to suspend disbelief. Not saying people can't criticize but when you talk about parts in shows and try to make sense of the little things it might come off like those parts were bad or just confusing. It's entertainment at the end of the day and whether a show was trying to build suspense, excitement, etc. going with it sometimes is better than trying to pick through it, to me anyway. Great reaction!

Emily

definitely let the show marginate I feel like I have lots of moments when I look back and think of it. Theirs a video on youtube explaining a bit about truth if you want to check it out.

White

This exactly, people don't really give FMAB anything below an 8, but It also isn't the favourite anime for many. It's just really solid

Crayonz

something that I definitely understand and i feel like the guys understand whether they think about it or not is that sometimes, something (or even someone) is labelled as the goat because of having some sort of legacy, founding father status, or being the og. In sports, gaming, and even these shows, people put a lot of respect on the older generations for paving the way even if they don't hold up as much in the current day.

Brian Diaz

You should guys watch the bloopers for fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. It is hilarious and I think you guys would enjoy it and it is in dub.

spring deerling

Listen I don't usually like 3d anime. But tristamp was an absolute treat. They did an amazing job, I've never seen a 3d anime look so good. The right choreography was also amazing

spring deerling

I feel like that show would traumatize them lol. And not even from the stuff that happens near the end

AnonX

Sorry folks, I did indeed come a bit too strong against the dub. I guess it was the frustration/disappointment from expecting the dub to live up to my expectations. I think the original Japanese cast is so outstanding, and when I saw that many people preferred the dub, of course, I came to expect something amazing. I wouldn't say that it's actually garbage, there are good performances (Mustang, Bradley and Greed being some of them), but it is still inferior to the sub by quite a bit. I also think that the dub from both Ed and Al was definitely below average. I honestly cannot say that more than 30% of the cast had "good dub voice acting", especially when you take into account their Japanese counterparts. For sure it was not near the same level as some of the AoT dub, for example, where even though I still prefer the sub, I can still see that the dub is quite good. Wanna see "stellar" voice acting in English? Check Erwin. That was stellar. While there was good dub in FMAB here and there, I could not call any of it "stellar". Also, English is not my native language (I appreciate the compliment tho). Maybe that's why I can see the flaws in the dub a bit more clearly.

Emil Bengtsson

I think he swallowed his version of Truth since God is omnipresent. Father came from nothing, but every creature has its own personal Truth. Ed and Al have different Truths, even if their gates are connected. Father didn’t absorb every Truth, just his own, he just needed the power to be able to acquire his own Truth. He needed the sacrifices for a power source. By using them as part of the ritual, Father is able to access the earths gate, allowing him to draw out the power he seeks to acquire the perfect being's (moon/sun)'s truth from the Portal, which is still technically Fathers version of truth since he initiated the ritual.

Connor O'Hara

Ok this part where Ed destroys Pride's philosopher's stone is kinda weird, but it was foreshadowed. When Ed fights Kimblee in the mines, he gets seriously injured and has to heal himself. The only way he's able to do it is by using the energy from his soul, as if it were a philosopher's stone powered by a single soul. He uses this same method to reach inside Pride and dismantle him at the end

Vanessa

Claymore is the anime that got me into anime. It is amazing

Vincent S Deluca

Yall should check out the Bloopers from the VAs too its hilarious lol

LupusRex69

Actually you guys are missing one more epilogue!! Not a lot of people are aware of the Epilogue ova episode called Kids that shows more of what happenes to Ed and Al in their lives!

Albin Limani

Also, there are a few character study videos on Youtube for Bradley, Scar, Kimblee, Hohenheim etc. which will help you understand more.

Gigi

Just binge watched all the FMAB reactions after seeing the upload on YouTube! I had no idea y’all started watching this back in September and I’m so glad y’all reacted to it 🥹 Getting to rewatch this anime with y’all again made me so emotional and I understand y’alls overall feelings on the show. Interestingly for me, even after watching hundreds of animes, FMAB will always be one the best (definitely in my top 10). But maybe that’s also bc I watched it 12 years ago and it was one of the only animes I managed to convince my brothers to watch 😅 so it holds really great memories. Also the mangaka is a woman so maybe that’s why the female characters were all well written.

Rudy Schwabe

Father didn't have any of his sins in him, he had no greed, lust, envy, sloth, pride, wrath or gluttony, he had no soul to work with, so he didn't think he needed any of the homunculous, until Ed beat him with his bare hands

Rudy Schwabe

But yes the point of the show isn't the final battle with Father, it's Ed figuring out that he has the answer alll along and it's not the power of alchemy

SlamboHamburg

What a journey 🥹 so glad you guys watched FMAB

Madi Aikau

One of my favorite lines in anime Ed says, "Get up you novice. I'm gonna show you how outclassed you really are. This fight you lose." It's just so badass in the moment. What I love about the show is the emphasis on the fact that the things that are important in life are friends and family, and up holding whatever ethics you choose. Integrity. Integrity is everything, especially to not get lost in power or your own hubris. Another thing I love is that power or skill wise, Ed and Al are already at the top of their class. And they 'beat the boss' with strategy, outwitting him, and that they had true loyal friends and allies bc they're intrinsically good people. Yes, they had to wear down 'Father' with a physical fight but that wouldn't have worked w/o the reverse transmutation circles. It's not your traditional shonen and that's why I love it.

Leigh Kim

Sub is definitely superior. For sub, I teared up when Dwarf in the Flask was dragged into hell, but I laughed in the dub because the voice actor sounded SO whiny and childish. I also think the emotion of that scene gets lost in translation. In dub, Dwarf in the Flask asks God (truth), "What was the answer?" as if asking for the answer to immortality, but in sub, he asks, "What should've I had done?" as if asking what other path he could've taken. It's low-key sad because he almost feels like he HAD to take down God in order to obtain total freedom, which makes Hohenheim's later reflection on their first meeting also rather sad ("What do you want the most?" "It'd be nice if I could just get out of this flask.") I dunno, there's a lot of nuance in the finale that I think hits way better in sub, and the voice acting for Dwarf in the Flask is definitely one of them.

Kyle Taggart

I haven't seen all the anime's you guys have seen, but I have seen some you haven't. For me personally, FMA is S tier, and here's why. Characters, amazing moments, music, world/atmosphere, and originality. Also, personal bias from having grown up watching the FMA original. Characters - first and foremost, the amount of character storylines that go from start to finish, are absolutely incredible. Ed, Al, Roy, Ling, Hohenheim, teacher, the homunculi, the Armstrongs, Hughes, etc. There are so so many characters to fall in love with, and their development is amazing. The show's world and it's ideas are S tier, from alchemy, the countries, automail, down to the architecture, is a masterclass. I think as well, something that impacts my perspective on FMAB, is that I grew up as a 15-16 year old seeing FMA the original, and FMAB is SUCH a breath of fresh air. It was a completely new take on something I already loved, and it EXPLAINED so much more. You guys spent a lot of time questioning some things at the end, which is totally understandable, but at the same time, this show vs 2003 FMA, is so much more refined and explained. I've watched AOT, although by myself, not with a group, and I've had trouble keeping up with the plot in that show. There is influence when watching with a group for sure. I think when in a group, you can be "taken out" of the immersion in an easier fashion. As for the whole sub vs dub thing, you guys clearly liked the dub, but some chracters didn't hit, I disagree whole heartedly, I think the DUB is far superior in any anime, but that's just a bias I don't think is really debatable. The last thing I'll touch on is the originality of the show. You guys mentioned it, but the writer (who's a woman) Hiromu Arakawa, came up with one of the most amazing concepts I've ever come across in fiction. Ninjas, demons, mech suits, those have been don numerous times....and there's nothing wrong with that, but this world of alchemy, humunculi, chimeras, it's completely original (to my knowledge). For me, it immersed me completely. The music, the imagry, the entire world - I just wanted more. FMAB as a whole, is an S tier anime. I'm so happy I went on this journey all over again with you guys, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. Maybe one day it will make it to your S tier level, but until then, thanks for sharing your experience with all of us!
