Dunno if you saw in the map at the end, but there were _multiple_ asteroids on Earth-bound trajectories. I think you had it right; he wants to end us (Earthers) like the dinosaurs.

Apparently, there was actual speculation among a small subset of fans that he was actually Dominique Tipper and Keon Alexander's son because they knew each other prior to this. The switch from SyFy to Amazon didn't affect the production at all. Neither SyFy, nor Amazon, actually had anything to do with the production. It was purely distribution.
