The next chapter of Pipeburn involves Gray going on about a dozen bad dates over the course of five years, and I really put a lot of energy into trying to tell a subtle story about how he’s is putting the pieces of himself back together through his styling and fashion, the guys he’s going out with, and how the relationships are falling apart. I’m planning to do a post about each of them and their role in the story, but I wanted to put this up first as a baseline to show sort of “what we know so far”.

Gray’s the kind of guy who had one hairstyle and approach to fashion for most of his life up until he got a job at the Capitalism Factory making all the cyberpunk and had to deal with a company dress code for the first time. He was making more money than he’d ever imagined with that job and went full Fancy Bitch mode, kind of losing himself in the process. After he got put through the ringer by that whole situation I think he kind of felt like he had to figure out the person he is now and didn’t really feel like he could go back to the way things were, so the next chapter is going to be about the process that took him from the flashback in chapter 2 to present day Gray.

I think this is the first time I noticed the eyeshadow on current Gray and I love it.

He’s been wearing really shitty, cheap gas station eyeliner since he was a little 13 year old Slipknot Hoodie Kid, and I think if someone asked about it he’d be like “oh, I just put it on once 20 years ago and never figured out how to wash it off”. It probably drives Poppy insane because she tries to get him good eyeliner that won’t go all raccoon-y in ten minutes, but then someone will compliment his “perfect Smokey eyes” and he’s like “see the shitty stuff is fine”
