On this month's exclusive WLM episode, the guys are chatting about one of the all-time greats, John Carpenter's Escape from New York! How rad are these special effects? Why couldn't we learn just a little more about those C.H.U.D.s in the sewer? And doesn't that blonde wig make Donald Pleasance look like Marlene McFly in Back to the Future Part II? PLUS: Russell Rules!

Escape from New York stars Kurt Russell, Donald Pleasance, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Atkins, Charles Cyphers, and Frank Doubleday; directed by the Great John Carpenter.

I've only seen escape from new York twice as it never seem to be available anywhere but escape from L.A I've seen hundreds as I used to watch it when I visited my grandparents and after my grampa pasted I got to the some of his vhs collection and L.A was one of them.

You guys are way too old and cynical and grumpy to be using the word "banger" or "bang". Grow up, already. :-)

“Insomnia” - underrated Nolan film, in my opinion. I like that movie.

I watch this movie at least once a year. I love the atmosphere and the laid back quality of it. Great episode!

Speaking of Carpenter musical contributions. Check out the track “Tech Noir” by the band Gunship. Carpenter recorded a post apocalyptic intro monologue for it and the whole track is fire.

Ed

Holy crap i didn't realize that was Carpenter. I love that track.

Jamie Lee Curtis is uncredited, is the women’s voice on the PA at the police station wall area ....

Sorry, I've tweeted this before but in the spirit of Kurt Russell, 3000 Miles from Graceland is one of the most insanely terrible movies I've ever seen. It will be my go to drunken Listener Request Month request.

Ok changed my mind on Escape LA, not as good as New York. Still fun, but has some bad effects and I think.at the time I was pissed at what he does at the end. This time I was like "yeah, f#$% the world"

James Vogel

Did the guys mention that a young James Cameron worked on the special effects ?

Josan

For the longest time I've thought that the Romero character was played by Steve Buscemi xd, I guess cause it kinda looks like but he is also in Escape from LA

Zane Magers

Shout Factory has most Carpenter on Blu Ray, including Elvis and Escape from NY/LA. Alot of them have fantastic commentaries with Carpenter himself!

Coomanfu

The Metal Gear Solid games never got sued literally because Carpenter loves the video games.

Kurt Russell is AWESOME! Everything Kurt does is Gold Jerry, gold.
