On this super-sized, listener-requested episode of The Nexus, the gang, by the luck of the draw, is chatting about two consecutively aired episodes of TNG!

First up, it's the silly and sad return of the beloved Montgomery "Scotty" Scott as James Doohan guests on "Relics." Originally airing October 10, 1992, this episode has Scotty annoying Geordi at work, Picard getting wasted on the holodeck with his new old man friend, Data playing bartender, and Scotty venturing out into space without a bathroom!

Then on the very next episode, it's the X-Files-esque episode, "Schisms." Originally airing October 17, 1992, this slow-burn episode features Riker lumbering around like a big lug, Geordi debasing himself as Riker's alarm clock, Data reading his wretched poetry, Worf being aggressive with the ship's barber, and beloved crew member Mop Bot becomes a filmmaker!

The Nexus is a We Hate Movies podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support this weird thing known as WHM! We couldn't do it without you!

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array. And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

I thought Riker was a captain in Picard?

Ugh. I can't believe I'm going to be "that guy" and do a "Well, actually," but here it goes: Well, actually, it's been established that he is, in fact, a Captain. Promoted to Captain of the Titan at the end of that vile Nemesis movie. Rescues the USS Cerritos at the end of Lower Decks as the Captain of the Titan. I guess the loss of his son made him step away for a bit and focus on his daughter. Picard calling him a Commander in that scene at his house was probably a flub. He shows up with a fleet as "acting Captain" at the end of Picard. He probably called that salty Admiral Clancy and asked to be re-instated so he could save Picard's ass. I couldn't stop myself from typing this shit. I have more important things to do, like sleep, but I guess I had to be an insufferable nerd.

always figured picard calling him commander was picard being the snarky ass he is at times

I don't think I've seen Relics since it aired. In all that time, hand to God, I could've sworn that the climax involved Scotty piloting a shuttle to jam the Dyson Sphere door open and he somehow ends up sacrificing himself. Learning that he simple drove off at the end actually made me sadder.

Eric's story about the stars and bars bumper sticker made me envious for something as simple as a sticker, I live 2 houses away from a fully wrapped oath kee?ers jeep wrangler complete with punisher skull.

I forgot to mention an additional irony that the truck with the sticker was parked like 3 blocks away from a park that was a former Union Army cannon gun factory.

After listening to the relics half of the episode, I'm wondering if you guys know about the TOS set recreation in upstate New York. Well worth checking out once the pandemic is over. https://www.startrektour.com/about/general-information/
