“This was rough, dude…” - Eric, on this cartoon episode

On this month’s SPOOKTACULAR edition of Animation Damnation, we’re talking about a completely deranged episode of the totally abhorrent cartoon adaptation of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective! The episode in question, “Witch’s Brew,” originally aired on October 29, 1999, and contains some stellar stuff like Ace Ventura making a Marquis de Sade reference, Ace vaguely flirting with a teenage girl, several instances of dangerous witchcraft, a GIANT. WOMAN., Ace and a monkey getting turned into frogs, and, of course, several fart jokes! PLUS: Chris Pratt to voice Ace Ventura in a new animated feature? You never know!

"Let's do gags from the original comedy but worse" is a tried and true genre in animation. I saw it as recently as the Black Dynamite cartoon from ten years ago.

Of all the lousy Jim Carrey spin off cartoons from the 90s, this shit takes the gold for being the worst. The Mask was the best by default with Dumb and Dumber in the middle.

I understand why writers toss in references only adults would get when they're making a dumb kids movie. Parents gotta have SOMETHING when they're stuck in a theater watching crap. But what parents are watching Saturday morning cartoons like this with their brood? They're for sugared-up kids on their day off. Parents don't want to be around them then, they're likely still in bed. I have to assume the writers are just tossing them in to remind themselves they could be doing better things.
