The alan guy means it in relation to his relationship to Mika. Keep in mind their views are a bit warped. Mika if you think about it has been training child soldiers for years. The Alan Institute believes your purpose is above all else. So going against it, is literally wasting your purpose in life. This is where Mika and Mr Yoshi differ, especially now. I'll leave it at that as the later episodes explains it.

i think because of her talent for killing not being utilized hes mad, they saved her with the intention of her continuing to kill. However, i think because she realized they saved her , her mission changed to do just that, to kill. But i dont think he wanted that, which is y hes upset.
