It has three (updated!) modes, and here's how to use them:

/facelift

Use this for traditional face touch-up, similar to your smartphone's "beauty" mode

/facelift /anime

To boost the pixels and sharpen fantasy art and anime, or semi-realistic images.  Works great on oil paints, too.

Check the attachments to compare the difference.

/facelift /photo

And "photo" mode skips face retouching, so you keep facial imperfections. This is the one you want for photos of objects, nature, so it doesn't put rosy cheeks on your shrubbery or cloudscapes.
