2024-01-29 01:35:25 the thing is that we're supposed to recognize that Wesley's emotional maturity is extremely low (and he's never been socialized with girls as we learn in this ep) so he's, according to the writers, kind of the exception to the rule of older guys shouldn't date younger girls. that's why it's a comedic storyline too, it's to make fun of him and his extreme awkwardness more than anything. I agree it's the kind of thing we wouldn't do in media nowadays bc it would be too ambiguous for today's standards. But I also personally feel like I agree with the writers that Wes is probably not a threat to Cordy's emotional integrity cuz he's probably 15 years old mentally and doesn't have anymore life experiences than Cordy, on the contrary.

Not on Buffy's side in the shipping sense, but I feel the writers, Joyce, and Angel don't have the proper empathy for Buffy. She's not just some young person in love. Her 24/7 traumatic, life-and-death job that there's no way out of gives her a valid reason for not seeing things from long-term perspective.

He has graduated college and has a full time job in the council as a watcher, where he was deemed qualified to advise teenage girl slayers (multiple in faith and buffy) on their supernatural journey. So him then trying to date a teenage girl, their classmate, is extremely unsavory to put it mildly. It validates the point she made in the video that life stage differences, power dynamics, can go beyond 'emotional maturity' and age gaps.
