What games do you like?
- Slave game 213
- Harem game 129
- Technical game 28
I've started dipping my toes in the follow-up project after CMW and seeing what I would like to make next and basically I've boiled it down to three things.
1. A slave game (like Orange Trainer)
2. A harem game (like Camp Mourning Wood)
3. A technical game (like Paprika Trainer)
I'm going to give you a rundown of each one of these.
In a game like this, you have your two most important character, the player and the main girl. In a game like this you get to develop the story and relationship between your main pair much more in depth than in any of the other games.
Pros: More rewarding adult scene, Better story / personal motivation
Cons: Less diverse cast of characters
Camp Mourning Wood is my first harem game after I dipped my toes into the genre with Paprika Trainer. It has lots of characters, lots of different CGs and allows for a lot of diverse scenes. However you sacrifice a bit of character depth in the process.
Pros: Lots of CGs, more diversity in characters
Cons: Time consuming, less character depth
This is basically a project where I throw anything at the wall and see what sticks. A clear example of this would be Paprika Trainer. These games are great for when you want to develop your skills, but risk being unfocused and can easily become a collection of barely connected gameplay elements being strung together. Story takes a clear step back in a game like this.
Pros: Lots of experimental features (animation, voice acting, innovative gameplay)
Cons: Very expensive, very time consuming, less coherent story / gameplay
Although I don't want to skew your opinion too much, I would like to give my own preference. I love working on all three types of games, but right now I'm leaning towards the first one. A slave game is usually a bit easier to make and feels more rewarding to the player, seeing a character grow and evolve.
Next up would be the harem game. CMW has shown me just how much freedom I have while making these and they're fantastic. It's fun to commission lots of art for multiple characters and switching between their story, but it's not as rewarding to play.
And finally the technical game. It's great to imagine a new gameplay mechanic and develop it, but you risk spending so much time on it, that everything else in the game suffers.
That said... now I'm really curious to hear what you like! For now CMW is chugging along just fine and I'm still loving this project, but I do want to make sure that I start planning for the next game once this one is done.
