The light novels are still going it’s currently at vol.12 I think? The anime currently only covers volumes 1-3

86 is adapted from a light novel series. This anime first season adapted the first 3 volumes and its still ongoing. I heard it only gets better, which is pretty exciting to hear since so far its been beautifully handled. I hope if it continues, it keeps up this level of care and dedication while remaining faithful to the source material. You're both right in a sense. Chris is saying the story isn't over, which is true cos they're still fighting the Legion and there is more to the story. Altho Shin and Lena are together now, they're still gonna have their struggles but hopefully they'll get through them together. Johnny is also right that if the anime ended here, it would be algood. This is a decent conclusion to end on. We've gone thru Shin's development, and he's in a better place currently. We also finally got the reunion we've been waiting for since episode 1. Lena has also grown as a person cos of Shin and the Spearhead squad, and is now fighting alongside them. Mostly everything setup from the beginning so far has been wrapped up. However at the end of the episode, Shin said he still has no idea what he's living for. For now he's living for the sake of his comrades, both the living and gone before, and for Lena. That's a good step forward for now. Of course his mental struggles and trauma ain't gonna go away.. but he currently has an anchor. Now he just needs to find a place to be content with himself. That may be a good next step. What's gonna happen to him if one of his current comrades dies or Lena dies in the near future. How will he deal with that. Will he go back to that abyss and become suicidal again? Or will he find a way to deal with it and move on? There definitely is more they can get into, which is interesting.

Its fucking crazy. EVERYONE said episode 9 is a season ender. EVERYONE said how can anyone continue a story with that that kind of perfect ending. But they still managed to pull up and create a perfect season ender on ep 23 with masterpiece storytelling. I just hope if they ever continue this anime it can keep up with the same quality.
