I cannot believe how perfect the closing song is as the prelude to the finale... when that Epic theme begins to play as Gretchen is addressing Walt- "the sweet, kind, brilliant man that we once knew long ago, he's gone". The metamorphosis is one episode away from completion! It still gives me goosebumps even after watching it dozens & dozens of times. This is it. It's all coming to an end. I just. This scene makes me feel so much. It gives you this feeling of excitement over how perfectly brilliant it is. But it also makes you emotional just knowing that it's all about to be over for good. I will never forget this scene. This whole show for that matter. It really is something special- a once in a lifetime experience and on the first watch you miss a lot of the hidden layers, details, references throughout the entire show.

It is bittersweet watching this. The kids and Marie losing Hank are what gets me. Great performance by Bryan and RJ Mitte (Walt Jr.), I was broken by Jrs reaction to Walt as well as broken for Walt.

Then there was 1....you are going to get what you want... I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT!... everyone is gonna get what they want!! Team Walt from episode 1 till the end, we ride or die baby!!!... what I felt? As I been saying last few videos, to me this was a very underrated episode, but that ending, I felt what 9 years ago maybe, I felt? LETS MUTHAFUCKIN GO!!!... Kinda crazy in the states as news shows NEWS, was talking about this and couldn't wait till the last episode to air! I feel we have flipped pudgey back to light, this episode ahaha

lemmy101

re: 92 -> 96% :P the batch that was 96 was made by Jesse the day where Todd rewarded him the ice-cream hence the rewarding the ice cream, the 92 was the purity reached as of the previous time Todd met Lydia, which could have been days or even weeks previous to that scene.

Tim Martin

Walter is back to taking his drinks "neat". I thought maybe he was reverting back to the old Walter. Gretchen and Elliot took care of that LOL. Jesse Jesse Jesse...You had to know WHY they bothered pinning a picture of Andrea and Brock for you to see. It wasn't to make you feel more at home in the lab.

That final scene with the Breaking Bad intro music playing as Heisenberg is reawakened by Gretchen & Elliot is epic.

GYG359

I never liked Walter Junior's complete lack of empathy for his dying father. I know he's young, but he really should have at least given his Dad the chance to explain himself on that phone call and specifically, what happened to Hank. Junior should have known or sensed that it was likely the last time he would ever speak to his father. Bad as he was, Walter did always love and care for his family and had maintained a positive relationship with his special-needs son. Walter Jr.s' cold and hostile rejection of his father was disappointing to me.

TheRoguePrince19

Great performance by Bryan Cranston and alot of reactors end up feeling bad for Walt in this episode bc heā€™s soo broken and has nothingā€¦I feel the way U described Walt as a full on villain isnā€™t really right, in the first half of s5 he definitely is but other than that heā€™s like Daemon Targaryen or Jaime Lannister , A morally grey character on the darker side of grey like them like Spartan genuine question, do you consider them villains as well ? Bc you donā€™t act like they are but you do with Walter and you love Butcher from the boys who is literally way worse than Walt lol , Hell butcher is close to as bad as homelanderšŸ˜‚ā€¦.Canā€™t wait for Felina .

This. Jesse was cooking every day, these were 2 separate cooks.

James Woodford

I rewatched that scene on our dvr like 10 times a day between episode 15 and 16. My wife got so annoyed after a while lol

Trivia: - Walt regains his hair in the main timeline for the first time since Season 1's "Crazy Handful of Nothin'", although he was seen with hair in a few flashbacks. - Skyler spaces out while discussing with the lawyers the same way Walter spaced out in while receiving the news of his cancer. ("Pilot") - Walt and Skyler still have the same last names since Walt was named Lambert and Skyler goes by her maiden name, which is Lambert too. - When Ed is dealing out playing cards for him and Walt to play stud, he deals two kings, referring to the two men playing cards. This continues the theme of a king from the prior episode "Ozymandias". In that episode, a close up of a white king on the chessboard in the fire station is zoomed in on, and also the title Ozymandias, refers to a king that has lost all his power and glory. - When Todd kills Andrea, the scene of Jesse screaming in agony in the truck is very reminiscent of Gus's agony cries when Max Arciniega is killed, and Walt's cries when Hank is killed. The camera angle is very similar and the head positioning of Jesse is similar as well, along with the uncontrolled misery in the cries. Walt and Gus were both lying down with their heads turned sideways, while Jesse begins sitting up, but then lies down partially against the door, and then finally for a moment is lying fully down with his face turned as Gus and Walt's were. - During the production for the episode, the footage of Walt's phone call to Walter Jr. had to be filmed again because the footage from the first time was accidentally crushed by a 737 after the footage fell out of a truck. Ironically, this is the same plane model as one of the planes from the Wayfarer 515 incident in "ABQ".

PastaDon

Great outro discussion guys, y'all bring up some great points the show is trying to get the viewers to question. However, imo.. y'all a little too harsh and disregarded on Andrea. I mean, was it naive of her to walk out on the porch, yeah a little but Todd was gonna kill her in that moment no matter what. He showed up there without a mask on, which is something he didn't do when he threatened Skylar. So, imo wouldn't even have mattered if she had "caught on" or however you wanna put it. And most likely that psycho would've killed Brock as well if he had forced his way in.. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.. maybe I just take the Andrea character personally for some reason.. I do remember that scene hit me the same way as what they did to John Snow in the "Mother's Mercy" ep.. Thanks for the video guys!!

N M

I think that maybe his character was written that way because of developmental disabilities and lack of maturity.

Munir

Nah you guys aren't seeing it through his eyes. Walt Jr. genuinely believes Walt murdered Hank and was threatening/blackmailing his mom. That was the whole point of Walt's last phone call, to convince the police of that. Skyler was able to pick up that he was lying, but there's no way Walt Jr. could've.

Munir

Andrea was being naive but she was gonna die regardless. At least she didn't cause a fuss and get Brock involved. And like you guys said, Todd seems like such a nice and innocent guy at first glance. Also Walt was in that cabin for several months, not just one.

Natalie-Anne

Walt is broken, beaten, dying, he threatened his wife over the phone so that she wouldn't get a hard time from the police. His son hates him and wishes his death. His brother in law is dead. His money, everything he worked for is stolen. Everything he worked for was for nothing. He is finally done. Then Elliot & Gretchen appear on TV and publicly insult his intelligence, his genius, his accomplishments. And suddenly that pride, that ego, that ruthlessness is back. He is Heisenberg again, one last time.

Pogger White

You nailed it. That's exactly what was being conveyed through that last phone call between them. Jr doesn't know that phone call to Skyler was a set up by Walt and thinks Walt was being serious with everything he said. Even in Walt's phone call to Skyler, he doesn't deny killing Hank. When they ask where he is all Walt says is "You're never gonna see Hank again. He crossed me." It was just easier in that moment to take on all the heat instead of explaining things. If he told them the truth about Jack's gang killing Hank then Walt's family would've been put in real danger.

David

Can't wait for your reactions to the best finale to any show ever. You have been properly set up to be both anxious but also have no idea what is going to happen. I think I am looking forward to the outro the most and all the discussions in the comment section. It is the perfect ending on so many levels that I think it is impossible to pick up on all of them on the first watch. I am curious to see how much of it you guys will pick up on since you two are very good at catching themes and symbolism in your reactionss and this show is full of both. Can't wait for it. LETS GO.

Sakonthos

There had been a cook between Todd's scene with Lydia and the scene with Jesse, so the '96 percent' was a cook that he had done right before that was said!

Pogger White

The idea to have these seemingly one off characters from Season 1 in Gretchen and Elliot return in the final season, and not just return but be the driving force behind the final resurgence of Heisenberg is just perfect storytelling. Despite being small side characters, their impact on everything Walt has done and the decisions he made over the course of the show was always there and was Walt's real main driving factor for it all. Having them be the ones to push him one last time is just genius. And of course, the idea to use the show's theme here gives me goosebumps every time

Mama Browsss

The theme music in the last scene of this episode gives me chills and makes my eyes tear up. Love it!

Raphael Aguiar

I really had totally obliviated AndreaĀ“s death from my mind and it shocked me like i was watching for the first time. Disgusting. ToddĀ“s disgusting.

Raphael Aguiar

If you really think about it (going in the most phsyco side of your mind hehe) you can understand that Heisenberg only exists because of their betrayal. If they didn't betrayed Walter, he wouldn't be in a bad financial situation, and wouldn't had to cook meth to make money. In this perspective they are 'guilt' for Heisenberg, and that speach only makes Walter understand that. Perfect Storytelling.

Pogger White

Spot on. They inadvertently created the monster that us Heisenberg and they're the ones who reawaken him once again. It makes perfect sense. And the way its done, Walt seeing it on the TV in passing through a Charlie Rose interview is a great way to bring them back without it feeling forced. Of course people would be looking at Gray Matter very skeptically after everything about Walt becomes public so of course they would be doing lots of very public interviews to try to save face.

Rey Jr

Not true. It was Waltā€™s pride and ego. Vince explained the situation once: "Breaking Bad" actress Jessica Hecht, who plays Gretchen, mentioned in an AMC Q&A that Walt left the company and their relationship because he felt inferior. Gilligan confirmed this was true to HuffPost, saying, "She's correct, and that's what I explained to her and to [Bryan Cranston] before they shot that big scene between the two of them where they were at the restaurant." "It ends with him being so nasty to her saying, 'Fuck you, and then she leaves tearfully," said Gilligan. "In my mind, the interesting thing here ā€” and I always kind of hate to nail it down so explicitly - but let's put it this way, most viewers of 'Breaking Bad' assume Gretchen and Elliott are the bad guys, and they assume that Walt got ripped off by them, got ill used by them, and I never actually saw it that way." Gilligan explained that the truth is more nuanced. It all stemmed from White's feeling of inferiority while spending time with Gretchen's family. "I think it was kind of situation where he didn't realize the girl he was about to marry was so very wealthy and came from such a prominent family, and it kind of blew his mind and made him feel inferior and he overreacted. He just kind of checked out. I think there is that whole other side to the story, and it can be gleaned. This isn't really the CliffsNotes version so much. These facts can be gleaned if you watch some of these scenes really closely enough, and you watch them without too much of an overriding bias toward Walt and against Gretchen and Elliott," said Gilligan.

Pogger White

I didn't phrase what I'm saying right. I know that Walt's ego is the reason he left the company. It's not their fault per se, but their impact and the company's impact on Walt is ever present through the whole series. That incident is what brought Heisenberg to the surface and its what brought Heisenberg back to life once again. It's not that they directly created the monster but indirecy they did. Their impact on Walt's life did. However, I believe that if they had reached out to him in good faith before his diagnosis and asking him to come back because they truly believe his intelligence could be beneficial to the company instead of out of pity, they could have saved a lot of lives. But they were fine operating without Walt until they felt bad for him. It's also heavily implied that they took his ideas and patents as their own, as shown by his award for "research contributing to a Nobel Prize" as shown in the pilot. Even when Walt confronted Gretchen on this she didn't refute it. Her response was "you can't possibly see it that way" or something like that but I think Walt has some merit to it. Yeah he sold his shares to them and was technically no longer a part of the company but it seems as though they never properly credited him for the work he did. Either way they don't seem to be the greatest people

Rey Jr

I know what you mean. I still disagree. Walt became Heisenberg because of himself. His pride ego. Like you said he left the company on his own will. Abandoned them and sold his share because he felt inferior to Gretchen. Like Gretchen said: You left me! On the fourth of July weekend, you left me, you and my father and my brothers. I go up to your room and you're packing your bags, barely talking. Wha - what did I dream all that? He left them on his own free will and afterwards blamed them for everything in typical Walt fashion. Taking no responsibility. Why would they reach out to him. He left them. Not the opposite. If he wanted something from them he should have asked. Not the other way around. And even then they were ready to pay for his treatment. But Waltā€™s pride would never allow that. Not just from them. He also didnā€™t want Hanks money. Even if Gretchen and Eliott didnā€™t exist Walt would still become Heisenberg. He wouldnā€™t take help anyways because of his pride and ego and start cooking meth

Pogger White

Walt is a very proud and egotistical person, but the conclusion that without Gray Matter he would've still become Heisenberg is a non sequitur. There's no reason to believe that's the case. Walt's pride and ego turned into Heisenberg BECAUSE of how undervalued and underappreciated he was, mostly stemming from his time at Gray Matter. Without Gray Matter in the picture, Walt wouldn't have that moment to linger on and regret leading him down the path he's on. Whether they owe him anything or not isn't really my point, that was just a side thing. But Heisenberg is directly tied to his falling out with Gretchen and the fact that in that moment he skipped out on his potential and a stable future for his kids which is what truly haunts him and drives him to do what he does other than his ego and pride. As Walt said, he sold his kids birthright for a couple months rent. The situation with Gretchen is directly what motivates Walt to get what he feels he's owed, one way or another. That's the point of the scene where him and Jesse are talking in Walt's house. The fact that he says he continues to check Gray Matter's stock price every week is a good indicator that that's the thing from his past that drives him. Obviously his ego and pride are his main driving factors but other than counting Walt's own personal shortcomings and flaws Gray Matter is undoubtedly the biggest motivator for why he does what he does. It's not the only factor for it but I don't see how walt's mentality would be the same if he didn't have his greatest failure looming over him every single day. This is supported by a scene in Better Call Saul too, you know which one I'm talking about if you've seen it

Rey Jr

The thing is he never was undervalued or underappriciated in gray matter. That was not why he left. He left because he felt inferior and was overwhelmed with Gretchen. That pride and ego was always there. Thatā€™s who he is. Yes I agree with you that if he was with gray matter and never left he wouldnā€™t have cooked meth. He would have enough money. But he isnā€™t because of his own choice. Afterwards he always blamed it on others and didnā€™t take responsibility. Because of himself he was so spiteful. Btw even money wasnā€™t the main factor why he did it. Of course he needed it at the beginning. But after a while he just liked being in control and power because of his ego. But letā€™s say gray matter never existed. He still would have his huge pride and ego of course. Do you think he really would have accepted help from Hank ?

Pogger White

No he wasn't undervalued or underappreciated by Gray Matter but he FELT he was which is the key here. As I said, they didn't directly do anything to make him what he was, but that failure sat with Walt ever since he walked out. And yes he feels this way because of his pride and ego but he feels this way nonetheless. If Gray Matter hadn't exploded into the multi billion dollar corporation it became, Walt's lack of self worth in his own head wouldn't have been so high. Walt's ego and pride would have still been there and he wouldn't have accepted the help from Hank. I just don't believe he would have had enough drive to become Heisenberg without what he views to be his greatest failure. The cancer was just the tip of the iceberg. It was everything else wrong in his life piling up and his diagnosis is what finally pushed him over the edge into the criminal life. The reason he cooks meth and enters the "empire business" as he puts it is its the only way in his mind to rectify the biggest mistake in his life and to leave something behind for his family, something he wouldn't have to worry about if he had stuck with Gray Matter and the way the story is presented, if Gray Matter just didn't exist from the beginning Walt probably wouldn't have felt the need to build that "empire" that he never missed out on in the first place. It was his failure and departure of Gray Matter that put him in he position of not being able to provide for his family. This also made Walt feel inferior and worthless which is why he teaches High School chemistry. He FEELS overeducated and underappreciated but also feels very insecure about his position in life. Without Gray Matter being around at all I highly doubt Walt would've questioned his capabilities and likely wouldn't have settled with being a High School teacher. But he did because at the start of the show he had a looming insecurity which directly stems from the fact that he missed out on the biggest opportunity of his life

GYG359

I can't believe Walter would make the whole trip from New Mexico to New Hampshire sitting in that hard steel tank without any cushions.
