Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

  • Use a dual monitor PC setup to watch both screens simultaneously
  • Use the split screen functions on your computer/phone to watch them side by side
  • Chromecast / Screenshare one screen to your TV while watching the other screen on a phone or laptop
  • HDMI your laptop / tablet to the TV and use the TV as a 2nd monitor (not mirror display)
  • Use your Smart TV or Gaming console to play the YouTube reaction and your Phone/Laptop to play the show (or other way around)
  • Use Google chromes picture in picture mode to overlay your own copy of the show over our reaction in a smaller window size (Link to the extension here: ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en )

I would actually really like to have them watch Fantastic Beasts. First movie was fine, second was bad, because it felt like an all over the place book pressed into 1 movie without making neccesary changes for the medium. Third movie was bad as well, but for a different reason: this movie just played it too safe and felt like the most stereotypical urban fantasy story ever, nothing stands out and the title doesnt keep his promise either: there is barely 1 secret in the movie, let alone secrets.

This is probably the worst HP movie IMO.

on the prophecy - Trelawney is the one who the prophecy comes from - she tells it to Dumbledore. Death Eater Snape hears a part about a boy that will be voldermots equal etc. how he will be born (around same date harry was born) and how his parents will have defied him three times (or something similar). There was two ppl it could be, either Neville or Harry (who both have close birthdays) and whose parents both escaped voldermort or defied him. Voldemort opted that it was probably Harry (primarily bcs Harry was a half-blood like Voldemort therefore he thought his ooponent would need to be like him; neville was pureblood). By doing this he essentialy kinda cements harry as being the chosen one. Now Voldermort didn't know the full prophecy, only the bit Death Eater Snape heard. Snape realising V is going after the potters at that point runs to Dumbledore to warn him and becomes a double agent. Obv the Potters are in hiding, put their faith in pettigrew who betrays them to Voldermort and then frame Sirius. Voldermort knowing the prophecy or the part that was heard from Snape and the location from Peter, goes after the Potters (Snape and Pettigrew is the reason why the Potters are killed). Interestingly, Voldermort promised Snape to let lily live as requested by Snape. He kills James instantly, and tell lily he will let her live, but Lily refuses to let him kill harry. This triggers the old powerful magic that is love which shields harry and in turn doesn't allow Voldermort to kill Harry. The killing curse rebounds, destroys voldermort, and a part of his soul latches onto Harry (aka the third horcrux). Years later, when Voldermort is recovered, he seeks to find the prophecy because Snape only told him a part of it, he didn't know the full of it. Harry then hears it, and it's accidently destroyed in the battle. Obv it was important to V bcs he went after the Potters with half the facts and was defeated. Fun fact - The reason why Trelawney remains at Hogwarts is bcs Dumbledore insists (even when the snake umbridge fires her). Dumbledore knew that if Trelawney was kicked out, it would be hard to protect her as she would be a person of interest to Voldermort given she was the person who conveyed the prophecy. In a similar way Slughorn was a person of interest given he is one who knows about Voldermort's interest in the horcrux.

There's alot of passion here about things that was left out but imo THE BIGGEST CRIME was that the book was 50% Horcrux hunting adventure and 50% Dumbledore backstory. And we get like 5% of Dumbledore's backstory in the movie which is super sad. IK Spartan and Pudgey would have loved the lore and learning the truth about power-hungry Dumbledore (wink).

The part of Harry that died in the station was the Horcrux. The last part of his soul is Voldemort. Voldermort's main goal was to gain ultimate power and in his mind that means to live forever. This is why he needed the three Deathly Hallows. He also needed to kill Harry due to the prophesy. The last thing to remember is Voldermort is not a sain person. As for Draco, not everyone can be a hero, he is just a normal person that made some shitty choices. You really have to remember that there is a lot (I mean a lot) of stuff that the movies just can't cover. These are made from really big and detailed books. The first movie tells us that no magic can bring someone back from the dead.

I would really suggest reading the books to get a full understanding of some things. For me reading the books before the movie came out made the experience of Snapes death a lot less emotional because the book version of Snape was much crueler and unfair than the movie version. Not only towards Harry, but towards Neville also.

It was fun watching your reactions to these. This movie is good not great; I prefer part 1 although I'm probably in the minority there. The movies leave out a lot of context so I think it's confusing without someone to fill in the gaps. One complaint I had with the movies was the character representation. JKR is very good at writing realistic characters -- good and bad sides to all. The movies simplified them into stereotypes and typical character roles. Apart from some of the missing plot details in the movies, the stripped down character development also contributed to an incomplete story. I didn't read all the comments above, but there are even details in Prisoner of Azkaban that answered some of your questions about Harry's parents' deaths. Harry's death sequence is pretty well done, but it's also impossible to separate what I know from the books. The parallel to Lily's death -- Harry's choice to sacrifice himself mirrors his mother's and he dies for everyone giving them the same magical protection that he got from his mother. He makes the hard choice twice -- he chooses to die and then in the "afterlife" he chooses to live, which at that point is the hard choice because it means returning to death and darkness. You lose some of that thematic weight in the movies. Hopefully this can be more explored in the series. I'm looking forward to it. The movies are good, but the books are great and I'd like to see a different interpretation with the flexibility that a series provides.

You will have to read the book to find out Peter's fate. I can tell you here but it will be spoilers (: Or if it wasn't spoiled by the comments up there ^
