Dude hates Mai more than people hate Hitler.

I like the idea of Aang struggling to handle the stress of taking on the firelord as 12/13 y/o, i think it could have been a bit more intense, emotional, but they took a bit more of a trippy lighthearted approach. spartan brings up a good point of the gang not taking it serious enough to recognize the avatar is having a very understandable mental breakdown….that being said, the invasion 2parter up next is 🔥🔥🔥….well ig not 🔥 because of the exlipse and all…2parter is 🌑🌑🌑!

Anonymous

Oh man from now on buckle up, second half of book 3 is fire. Also one detail to remember is that the Earth King told Azula back in Ba Sing Se about the invasion, so it is safe to assume they would be expecting it. Regarding bloodbending, you got to remember how much Katara disliked it, she even finishes the episode crying after being forced to use it. It is a skill that she would much rather avoid using because it feels so dark and twisted.

I might be the only one, but I really do enjoy this episode. I just think of it lightheartedly and it makes me giggle. Now when Spartan puts it that way though, I do agree that Katara and Gaang could have taken it way more seriously. As always great reaction you guys. I am dying for the next one that’s for sure.

Jonathanese

Lol. Naw I totally get Spartan with regards to Mai. I remember having a bit of a thing for her when the show originally aired back in high school. But I had a thing for gloomy goth girls. lol. So I related to Zuko on that front. But Suki and Katara were my main crushes.

MrMoleHole

honestly, in defense of Mai she is pretty understanding in this episode and tries her best but it is not her role to fix Zuko.

MrMoleHole

Hey there, is the two parter going to be released together in one video or be separate? And if it will be released together will that just be a full length reaction or edited as well? Awesome reaction!

No you guys are 100% right. This episode isn't all that. The least fav one. I always used to skip this ep. but the war meeting is important to know. But From Now on till da End. JUST EPIC!!! 💯💯 I cannot wait....!!!!

Sean Carroll

Yeah this ep is trash apart from the zuko stuff which is good. I was very in the middle with Mai, didn’t care about her enough to dislike or like her. The show from here to the end is GOATED.

Anonymous

Completely agree, this episode wasn't the best... especially when we are so close to the big defining moments lol. I guess its the 'calm before the storm' or something, but seems like a weird moment for a filler-ish ep. And the solution was just to say we believe in you after 4 days of no sleep haha why didn't they do that after the first night? The zuko stuff is good and important though

That time Mark Hamill said “my royal parts are showing” 😂

I loved this episode when I was a kid. I thought Appa and Momo fighting was too funny. Being older now it feels like wasted time and opportunity so late into the story. I also don’t like Mai btw. I’ve watched this series more times than I can recall and I have never grown to like her. She does something kind of redeeming later on in the book but I will always ship Zutara till the end of my days 😂 😂

I think your takes on Mai are fine! The rest of us forget we’re working with knowledge of the entire show, and are giving you grief for opinions formed based on what you’ve seen so far.

Anonymous

I wished you guys gave Mai the same patience and understanding like you do Zuko. Saying she’s worst than Azula is wild to me. Her personality just isn’t lovey dovey, doesn’t mean she’s terrible.

Anonymous

Mai Tai is not as bad as much as Spartan hates her. This is not a terrible ep but it is also not the best. Moving forward it gets sooooo good.

Ietseatapples

I personally find the romances across the board in this show pretty awful (whether that be Aang x Katara, Katara x Zuko, Zuko x Mai, Sokka x Yue, etc). The only one i sorta like is Sokka and Suki

Anonymous

Damn y’all really hate mei and sumo lol

SuddenImpulse

I have to agree honestly. It's the only one I would really consider well done.

SuddenImpulse

I am still recovering from you guys hating on Bosco honestly. That was simply out of line. Bosco is a legend.

I think once you finish the series and look back at this episode it’s placement and purpose makes more sense. It’s pretty much pedal to the metal from here on and the Bloodbending episode was very heavy, you need this last lighthearted moment to take a breathe in between and prep for the final stretch.

Anonymous

Cont. It also shows Aang’s growth and reinforces the idea that he IS taking this much more seriously. And it’s kinda cool that they use a lighthearted toned episode to juxtapose the idea of Aang coming to the realization of the severity and seriousness of the task ahead

Ietseatapples

IMO, the writers of the show would've known this episode would not land for a lot of people. They have very very silly, somewhat stupid sense of humor. And I think by now, they had sort of built up enough credibility & trust that they could just indulge themselves in one full episode where they just went ham on the types of jokes they personally like lol. I don't really like it much but I sorta respect it.

Cyan

This show has a trend of putting something lighthearted/fun in between heavy episodes. Its to give younger children a bit of an emotional break from the seriousness of the themes and helps keep their attention. In contrast to The Puppetmaster, it does feel extra silly though

Anonymous

the godliness of the next two episodes will make you realize why this episode was fine as it is.

Cherrie

Try to watch the show for what it is and try not to make YOUR expectations the bar. Not every episode needs to deep. Remember there are other people watching the show besides you, (children!). I think the episode was good and funny. Showing different anime styles was really cute. Momo and Appa's fight was hilarious!! You guys had way too much expectation for something deep and difficult that you couldn't even enjoy that part. I mean the sheep were ridiculous, but Momo and Appa talking and fighting was so good!

N_JR

Saying any episode of ATLA is “trash” is just objectively wrong…

Anonymous

Still. For what the show is and what is has shown until this point, it's probably the weakest one. The war council is the only thing important and meaningful. Nothing to do about expectations. Avatar has been funny all along but was also able to include deep stuff while it showed humorous sides. This episode was just silly for the sake of it. Again, apart for the war council stuff which make the story and characters progress. Just like some other fillers episode : as far as I remember, the story always took a step in some direction during those. Eveyrone's entitled to their opinion. Spartant did not like this one. As did I.

Sean Carroll

this ep is total filler before the battle, it really takes you out of it and feels like the worst episode since season 1. This ep is down near the great divide for me

N_JR

I’ve never seen anyone other reactor hate on Mae like that. Just Spartan😂

Thomas Mims

...Why shouldn't their expectations be the bar? They are the ones taking their own time to watch the show, they can judge it exactly how they like
