Michael and Abe are joined by friend of the pod Vanessa Guerrero to discuss 1971’s Wake In Fright. It’s an Australian movie that follows a school teacher as he kind of descends into the madness of the outback and it’s a pretty unforgettable film (and free on youtube)!

This episode is brought to you by Theo. You can be like Theo by heading over to the Small Beans patreon and pledging for the Pick the Flick tier. You can choose which movies we cover on this here Frame Rate!

The coin flipping game is probably 2 up, a traditional Australian game. It's only legal 1 day a year these days. More meaningful to Aussie audiences I imagine...

It's definitely 2 Up. And that's fascinating that it's only legal 1 day a year!

guy with a head just not where you want it to be

G'day, Australian here, who's been out of the country now but used to live in a mining town, its definitely heighten reality, but the depressing thing is i can totally see this as a possibility in even further remote towns in the 70's, we absolutely love a drink, general rule for a bunch of people in my town was 10 before 10, no more than 10 schooners before 10pm to be able to work the next day, attitudes towards hunting depends on the person, as far as I've been the process of roo shooting is the still the same as in the film but i imagine much less fucking about, that being said the kangaroos shown in thd film were eastern greys and they were never, ever endangered, as far as i know nearly no kangaroo population were never under risk by hunting. Interesting tidbit about two up, it's illegal now except for ANZAC day
