Cronenberg and Walken. What can go wrong? Michael and Abe take a look at the story of a man who resurfaces from his coma only to find that he has psychic powers. He saves kids, solves crimes, and prevents nuclear war. The boys also discuss what makes for a good Stephen King premise and whether or not The Dead Zone is up to snuff.

My suggestion for next movie is Cujo, because it is technically a sequel to the Dead Zone. Frank Dodd’s soul went into Cujo and made him into a monster

The whole "Kill Hitler?" thought experiment is fine, but as a computer programmer who spent 1999 fixing Y2K bugs, I think Dead Zone swings for a more subtle angle—although I think it didn't know it was swinging. Like, what if the movie got moving faster and Johnny didn't die and instead had to explain his actions. How would you convince people that what you did was for the good? As for Y2K, what if someone could go back in time and sabotage the whole Y2K effort so communications and financial systems just collapsed, and we spent the better part of 2000 rebuilding melted down nuclear power plants: would people then take climate change seriously? I think the it was the echoes of the words "Y2K Hoax" that led people to ignore, uh, nerds, I guess, who are telling them they'd better change their ways or shit's gonna get real.
