Race:   Goblin

Blood   Ty: AB

He/Him

Golborne was raised in the slum of the city  known as Traventas. At a young age he realized that goblins were not the best   looked upon race in the world and found that taking what he wanted was a lot   better than getting handouts. He quickly learned how to climb walls, pick   locks, and build a reputation as a cat burglar. But one job went south and   now he owes a debt to someone who spared his life. He has to pay back that   debt or they will claim what was once in their hands.

Character Building Blocks

Race: Goblin (Volo’s Monster Race)

Ability Score Increase: Your Dex increase by 2 and Con by 1

Size: Small.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision : Can see 60ft in the dark.

Fury of the Small : When you damage a creature with an attack or a spell and the creature is bigger than you, deal extra damage equal to your level, once per long rest.

Nimble Escape. You can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of your turns.

Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common and Goblin.

Class:

Rogue: Thief Archetype (PHB)

Starting Skill Proficiencies: Acrobatics, Athletics, Deception, Stealth

Expertise Lv1: Acrobatics, Athletics

Focus Dex and then Char/Str.

Golborne is a cat burglar so combat is not his usual go to. At most he keeps at a distance with a bow and arrow to get off his sneak attacks. The reasoning behind taking Acrobatics and Athletics as his starting expertise is: Golborne really isn’t that good of a thief. He’s not nearly as good at stealth and locking as he thinks he is and gets caught way too much. He’s trained in these skills, but most of the time he ends up having to run away. IE: Athletics and Acrobatics.

Being a cat burglar, he has to also carry a lot of shit while climbing so the Thief Archetype gives him an advantage on moving up and down buildings. Fast hands allow Golborne to use his tools while in a tight situation. Not the best at it, but he does it quick.

As for Str Vs Char, it will depend on how the campaign is. If the Dm uses the Variant Encumbered rule, than by all means focus on Str. over Char. However if you plan on performing and lying your way out of trouble like Golborne tries to do, than Char. Is what you might want to go with.

Example stats:

Str/ 14 Dex/18(+2) Con/14(+1) Int/10 Wis/14 Char/16

Background: Escort (Homebrew)

Proficiencies: Performance and Sleight of Hand

Tool Proficiencies: Forgery Kit, Disguise Kit

Equipment: A collapsible pole, some clean nice looking clothes, 10GP worth of incense, and a dagger.

Feat: Honey Pot

It’s not uncommon for people to know about your side jobs working the corner and some will actively seek it out. Provided that you don’t get caught, you may work as an escort by rolling performances to gain coin. In addition, your services could be used for trade in the right setting; such as logging at an inn or bartering with a merchant. While some people may be in favor of your skills, they will not protect you should the guards catch wind of your dealings.

Equipment

Golborne is used to carrying a lot of stuff. Tools, kits, arrows, ect… Try to get a bag of holding as soon as possible or at the very least get a backpack with 50ft of rope. Golborne is a very item centric character so use Fast hands to your advantage if and when you can. Oil is THE Best non magic early game item. USE IT, its 1 silver per flask for guarantied bonus damage with fire.  Stay up high and use a bow for combat, tossing flasks.

Recommended Spells

Golborne knows no spells

Level Guild up to 6

Most of these abilities can be found on Wikipedia But please considering buying the books/pdfs for legal reasons.

Lv1:

Expertise – Take Athletics and Acrobatics. Double the prof. for doing grunt work

Sneak Attack – Hit them when they least suspect it. Don’t be afraid to get in there. Use Nimble escape

Thieves’ Cant - The thing that everyone forgets rogues can do. Its just pig latten honestly.

Lv2:

Cunning Action – NOW you can dash as a bonus action.

Lv3: Thief Archetype

Second-Story Works – HARDCORE PARCORE! Running speed = climbing speed and long jump is longer

Fast Hands- Cunning action gets a boost. Now Disarm traps, locks and use objects as bonus actions.

Lv4:

Ability Score Improvement/Feat

For these benchmarks, pick one of the following. Golborne can work well with any of these, but it all depends on how you want to play him.

· Increase Dex or Char/STR.

Dex is OP so max it early

· Feat- Mobile

Up your speed/climbing by 10, Dash ignores difficult terrain speed debuff, and now you can actually melee without needing to use Disengage with your bonus action.

· Feat – Sharp Shooter

Golborne is meant for archery. If DM uses half-cover or ¾ cover in game take this over Mobile. And +10 to ranged attack is pretty good when stacked with Fury of the Small.

· Feat – Skulker

Hide in more places and missing ranged attack doesn’t blow your cover

· Feat – Tavern Brawler

Strength Route Golborne. Most of the items he uses are also improvised weapons. Now you punch harder AND hit more often when tossing flasks. Don’t grapple though, they need to pay first.

Lv5:

Uncanny Dodge – Saw it coming? Take half damage (One of many OP dodges)

Lv6:

Expertise – At this point, Golborne is a seasoned thief and escort. Pick two of the three

· Thief’s Tools

· Stealth

· Performance
