HI everyone,
Thanks for being patient regarding some news, we are pretty busy completing the steam release because some decisions we took. It's Time for a long overdue update on things from the team!
At first we wanted to port the revamped 1.0 version of the chapter 1 as is, on the steam platform with the chapter 2 UI and improvement BUT we decide to add some extra and named it SPECIAL EDITION. The idea behind it, is because we want to deliver an improved experience than original version, this means several quality of life improvements that you have experienced through the releases of Chapter 2.
* Improved dialogue UI,
* Overall performance increase
* Better animation system.
But the changes are not limited to just the above. By popular demand we took it upon ourselves to give a "Optional smoking" choice in the gameplay like in chapter 2. Which means that several scenes have been updated with a non smoking variant.
Of course it's complexe to do this for all scenes, as that means loading in a lot of old scenes and having to re-render them, and you can imagine the amount of work and time it would take for a project that took us around 3 years to complete. Trust me its not and easy task to redo those and make them match the original version of the scene BUT Around 90% have been redone so it's HUGE!
We're not trying to go full George Lucas on the old star wars movies here where you try to redo something old over and over again. We know we have improved and technology has improved over the years and we will bring it with us to the future projects.
Although we still couldn't help ourselves from updating some scenes and animations Some scenes have seen a bigger overhaul. Nika have some scenes completely redone and improved adding some stills and animation while we were at it ;)
Another example is removing the wimp path with Heather which already became obsolete in the later half of Chapter 1, and streamline and improve the "hero" path . As you know these scenes were some of the first ever made in timestamps, and we feel like some of the interactions weren't completely in line with their personalities.
We've also improved our internal tools to catch more errors since chapter 1 came out, and that has helped us identify and fix multiple issues as well. Mostly some few dialogue lines that didn't show up or there were some minor pathing errors causing some text to not correspond with the choice you made.

Chapter 2 will resume development in couple days and will be continue where it left!
