The Mon Calamari have always been pretty cool in star wars lore. They were some of the biggest supporters of the rebels during the rebellion against the Empire. The biggest warships used by the rebels were built by the Mon Calamari, they're the really big aquatic looking cruisers that the rebels use in the final battle against Death Star number 2 in Return of the Jedi. Captain Akbar from this arc goes on to lead the rebels as Admiral Akbar in Return of the Jedi as well.

If I remember correctly, the clones have tanks which take oxygen from the water, so they won't need actual oxygen tanks
