Just gonna add to this comment while watching and answering your questions. Sadly these concerts don't have subtitels. I own all of their concert dvds and not one has subtitels 🥲 I can understand a little bit of japanese so I understand some of it. A few speeches have been translated fully by fans. I could see if I can find them and DM you the links. Taka has a way with words. Not just with lyrics, but also when talking. They have openers sometimes, but not always and they are never in the dvds. For this concert the opener was actually Fall Out Boy 😁 (but it was someone different for every stop on this tour). Bombs Away is so much heavier live. I liked the studio version, but this live version made me LOVE the song!! Onion is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Really like the message and the lyrics! Deeper Deeper and Taking Off are such a powerful song. They still perform both on tour. Hearing it live last month in Germany was amazing. 20/20 is a song that's only on the japanese version of the album, so sadly we can't listen to it on streaming plattforms 🥲. I'm glad they performed it here. There a some japanese only or english only songs they never performed live and some of them count to my favorite songs (Lost in tonight and Right by your side). This is why we said watch the 2017 concert first. They always have crazy pits. But in the 2018 Dome concert they don't because it isn't allowed in Domes. Cry Out always has the best pits. The one at the Nagisaen concert is insane. Toru and Tomoya both do the scream in the live version to make it heavier and also to give Taka a break. Taka is the one screaming in the studio version. This is probably my favorite live performance of Clock Strikes. I don't know why but something about this particular concert is just so different. "He just drops the freaking mic stand" - dude, Taka has a habit of throwing, dropping and kicking the mic stand 🤣. The solos in Bedroom Warfare are insane. 69 is a wordplay in japanese. 6 is ro and 9 is ku which makes roku which sounds like rock in japanese. You may have already seen that the band also uses 10969 (can be read as "wan-ō-ku-ro-ku" = oneokrock in japanese). It would be too much to translate everything, but basically Taka says this song is for everyone who wonders what kind of band One Ok Rock is and he's quite agressive about it 🤣 There is a lyrics video by JM Gack2 on youtube that has good translations if you wanna check it out.(Overall I like their lyrics videos the best) Always Coming Back is another song that's only on the japanese version of the album. I really love the song. Really beautiful. Wherever You Are is one of their most popular songs. The original is more like a rock ballad, but this piano version is just stunning. Taka wrote the song for a friend's wedding (Taka was like 20-21 when he wrote it). And since the song has been released in 2010 it became the most popular/most used song at weddings in Japan. They always have either an acoustic set (2-3 songs) or just slower songs in the middle of their concert (I guess to give them all a little break). Listen is a song that means so much to me. My go to comfort song. I was also really surprised about the feature. Avril was the first singer I really liked as a kid. It's also quite funny knowing that she was Toru's idol when he was younger. And Ryota (bassist) is actually married to Avril's younger sister Michelle and they have a daughter. Avril is only featured on the japanese version on the song, not on the english version btw. Them becoming SO big happened kinda 2010/2011. They were 5 members at the beginning, but their then lead guitarist left in 2009 and Toru stepped up from being the rhythm guitarist to lead. The next album they released in 2010 got them a lot of attention. Especially the songs Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer, Wherever You Are and Nobody's Home. They solidified that with their 5th album in 2011. So I would say their 2011 and 2012 tour were the ones were the production got bigger. They became insanely popular at the end of 2012 with their song "The Beginning". So they have been a household name in the japanese rock scene for over a decade now. People always compliment Taka (rightfully so!) but not many reactors talk about TTR (Toru, Tomoya, Ryota). And not many fans recommend the instrumental parts in their concerts to reactors, which makes me so sad, because they are just insane. Bon Voyage is so much fun live. So is Start Again. I really wish I would've gotten to see this in person. This whole portion of the concert is just TTTR having fun 😁 You were wondering if I Was King was written with an orchestra and you kinda got your answer. Even without the live orchestra you can hear that there are strings. The orchestra version is still my favorite, but this performance of the song is just as powerful. This speech is really honest and makes me love Taka as a person even more. He's talking about how it's been 10 years since their major debut (they released their debut single and album in 2007, but have been a band since 2005!). I already sent you a DM on instagram with the translation of this, but there is one statement I can't get over: "Saying 'I can't live without One Ok Rock'. Saying something as lonely as this, is to drop words without thinking of yourself. It's something I don't like at all." This really hit me hard. Taka has said in other interviews/behind the scene footage, that he doesn't want for fans to have One Ok Rock as the center of their lifes. He's the happiest when fans tell him that OOR and their music helped them when they had a difficult time or inspired them to follow their dreams. He wants us to live our lives and enjoy their music, but never put them (or anything else) above ourselves. Here we go again with Take What You Want. And after this speech it hits even more. I can never decide if I like this or the 2018 performance more. Both have their own energy. I feel like his voice is cleaner here, but at the same time he seems more emotional than in 2018. No matter what anyone says The Beginning is THAT song. The melodies, the lyrics, the crowd responding to the song. I don't think they will ever stop performing it. Seeing them live last month I thought I was gonna cry at We Are and Your Tears Are Mine, but the second the first note of The Beginning played I was crying. And no matter how good/bad your japanese is, everyone was singing SO loud. This song is just so special. Taka used to always get in the crowd at one point during concerts. He did multiple times at the show I went to, but he stopped doing it at bigger shows in Japan. THIS is the best performance of Mighty Long Fall imo. The energy is just unmatched. WHO ARE YOU GONNA COLLAB WITH?! This speech is so special. I can't find the video with translations I watched back then, but I'll try to find it. If I can't, I'll translate it with my limited japanese and what I remember from the original translations and send it to you 😅 Again, this is my favorite performance of this song. We Are is always special but Taka really put his ALL in this concert. Taka's speech during We Are: "Don't ever think something stupid like you wanting to be someone else. You are just who you are. Don't blame others and run away from your dreams. Look at yourself. Fight against your anxiety. Listen, there are so many things you are capable of. But put your hand on your heart and think about it: what is the number one thing you want to do? Certainly you can do it starting tomorrow. Thank you and good luck!" They always perform 2-3 songs for the encore. I don't have anything new to say about One Way Ticket. It's beautiful and I loved your original reaction to it. As I mentioned earlier in this long comment, they became popular in 2010 after one member left. This song was their first single after he left. They were on a rather long break for most of 2009 and then this song was released in feb 2010. It kind of revived their band and it became really special to them and fans. They always play this as the very last song at concerts. I really think you should do the concerts in order of what you said in the beginning. Meaning the 2018 Ambitions Dome Tour next and then the orchestra tour. It makes sense because this is also in chronological order. And after this I think it would be nice to continue in order and then go back to watch old concerts. I recommend this order: Ambitions Japan Dome Tour 2018 Orchestra Tour 2018 Eye of the Storm Japan Tour 2019-2020 Field of Wonder 2020 (that's the online concert we saw them plan in Flip a coin) Day to Night acoustic sessions 2021 Luxury Disease Japan Tour 2023 Then go back to 2016 to watch the concert with the most insane crowd (in my opinion): Special Live in Nagisaen 2016 And then go back to the start: Yonoaka Shredder 2007 This is my Budokan?! 2010 Zankyo Reference Tour 2012 Jinsei x Kimi = Tour 2013 Mighty Long Fall at Yokohama Stadium 2014 35xxxv Japan Tour 2015 I can't wait to see your reactions to all of these concerts. I enjoy hearing your opinions on everything so much 👍🏻🖤 (Also respect to you if you actually read all of this 😅 I always get really passionate about oor and want to answer all questions and explain everything)

I think OOR has actually performed Lost In Tonight during their 2017 Japan Tour but only a few times. Secondly, Right By Your Side is also one of my favourites by them and I hope they perform it when the OOR x My First Story show happens later this year. From what I’ve heard the song is about Hiro according to some fans.

Annika

Ah okay. I just know that there isn’t a recorded live performance of lost in tonight (not even a fancam) so I thought they never performed it. But with recording not being allowed at concerts in Japan it makes sense. I also hope for right by your side at the MFSvsOOR concert. I also hope we get a livestream or dvd!

Chriz

Adding to Niika’s comment, from what I heard, OOR still performs Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer BUT to a lesser extent since they themselves don’t have the same passion for the song as they used too but still perform it because it means so much to the fans. Hence why during their recent Luxury Disease Japan Dome Tour, they only performed it at certain venues. My 2 favourite instrumentals from their live concert thus far are the ones from Nagisaen 2016 & Tokyo Dome 2018. Because the catchy melodies and Toru goes freaking crazy on the guitar during the 2018 one. I would say personally, 2010 is where they became mainstream popular in Japan when they released Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer and internationally it began in 2012/2013 because of The Beginning since it became the end credits song for the first Rurouni Kenshin movie. In fact it was because of Taka’s friend Takeru Satoh the song got included in the movie because Satoh is a huge fan of them and known them since High School if I got the timeline right. 5 OOR songs has been included in total for the Rurouni Kenshin movies/OSTs. The Beginning, Heartache, Mighty Long Fall, Renegades, Broken Heart of Gold. My recommendation for watch order is after you have seen Ambitions Japan Dome Tour 2018 & Orchestra 2018 which both happened in the same year, Tokyo Dome during Spring & The Orchestra in the fall. Is to watch OOR from the beginning to where they are now because I want you to experience their evolution as a rock band and how their music has changed throughout out the years.

Shicelle

Thank you Niika! You said it all what we wanted to say. 😊 I myself cant also answer the translations as I do not understand Japanese. When Taka talks at Japan tours, I always curious and ask “Where did Taka gets his energy talking too much when he’s out these performing with all he got.” 😂

Emma

Loved this!! This is my 2nd favorite concert of theirs 💜 It’s sooo good! They really give their all, always! The instrumental song they did before Bon Voyage, they do a new one of those for each concert. They’re freaking awesome! I love them so much because the other members get to shine there. My favorite instrumental session is the Nagisaen one, it’s so intense. The ones on the Eye of the Storm Tour and the Orchestra Tour (featuring the orchestra!) are also amazing. 20/20 and Always coming back are actually my two favorite OOR songs, which is a big part of why I hoped you’d react to this concert specifically. They were only on the Japanese version of the album so they’re often overlooked. My favorite performance of Always coming back is the one on Nagisaen, it’s even more beautiful there. The song is about Taka’s father. I think your planned watching order sounds great. I really hope you watch Nagisaen sooner rather than later though, it’s my #1 favorite concert of theirs. The crowd is insane too. PS - who are you collabing with John? 😁

johnreaveslive

Emma!! Lol thank you for the info for real I loved that instrumental jam session! It’s so catchy and also it gives Taka a whole moment to rest his voice, I am still blown away by his vocal stamina! And though I can’t say much about the cover yet… I can say… Blake McClain

johnreaveslive

So much so hoping for a livestream of that concert, I would fly out there if I could get a ticket! 😅

Translation of Taka's speech before We Are: You guys are the best. Thank you. But the next song is the last one. The next song is the one we wrote for 18 year olds. There must be people who are 18 here today. And those younger and older. You all came here today. We made this song for 18 year olds. When we sing together I learn various things from you. At the same time despair, hope, uneasieness/anxiety, positive and negative feelings/thoughts are on theit minds. So do we have that ourselves? The answer to this is "No". We lost those sparkling feelings. The real despair and real anxieties are gone at the same time. Like me. The half of me who gave up. That kind of feeling won't be there anymore. But when we play/sing with you, I realized one thing. You are the hope of the future of Japan. But before that we must also work hard for the future of Japan. So even if our age didn't change from no on. But we still have a lot to do. I firmly believe that we will achieve those things with the band. Help us do this. I am sure that the 18 year olds of today will have many different feelings. I think they will achieve something someday. I believe this. I want to change this decadent music industry. When I was 18 years old I also thought about usingmy own skills to promote change myself. I want to change this music industry. The rock genre will givenew life to Japan. No, I think one day japanese bands will conquer the world. That's what we said (from the start). Maybe none of us has been noticed yet. But we will never give up. So I'll sing this song with such feelings. Those of you who are here today. 18 years, older or younger. For those guys who say those words after getting drunk: I present to you the next song. Today you came to watch One Ok Rock live. I think there is more enthusiasm in their hearts/minds then depression. So I hope everyone can sing this next song together. Right, Saitama?! (I'm nowhere near fluent in japanese and english isn't my first language either, so please excuse any mistakes and let me know if there are things you don't understand/that don't make sense and I'll try to explain)

Alex

Hi John! Who are you going to colab with for a We Are cover???? Such a great way for me to end my day watching a OOR concert with you! Can’t wait for the next one! Thank you!

Iveta Tabahneva

Yes, Nagisaen is also my favorite concert of them. There were 110 000 people there. It's mesmerizing. Can't wait to see it here :)

Jolene Nakamatsu

I have watched all 14 concert DVDs at least 6 times each and I really enjoyed watching it with your reactions! I became a patreon because I wanted to see your reaction to Flip a Coin but did not expect that you would react to their live concerts. Really enjoyed this and hope to see more. Thank you!

ダミアン ヤニアク

I live song Listen because it's a wild mix of my favourite Voices. Taka with Avril Lavigne and Aimer singing that oh oooh in the background!

FireAbyssJin

I just found my new favorite rock band. Also this is making me very pumped for the Disturbed/Breaking Benjamin concert on the 22nd

Shicelle

Yay thanks John! The lives of One Ok Rock are the reasons why I became addicted to this band. They put all their energy to every performance, as in their all. Their passion is so freaking obvious. I also love “35xxxv” it’s one of the most intense for me, maybe because I saw the behind the scene of this where Taka almost lost his voice( too much screams maybe) and they also showed how tired they were after the concert. There are pits in their Japan concerts specially in their earlier tours. Nowadays it’s always seated, and I’m not sure as to the reason why. Yes, that’s Avril Lavigne in the song “Listen”. She is the sister-in-law of Ryota (bass player). He is married to Michelle, the sister of avril.
