Well, For my First experience with a Musical I am proud to say I was Wrong! SO FREAKING WRONG! and I Loved this!

Alicia

I’ve seen this production probably a half a dozen times and in rewatching it I still see things I missed. The staging, the choreography, the lighting are all brilliant, and of course so is the music. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And I love that you noticed the lighting—I think it’s especially brilliant in “Dear Theodosia” where the stage is lit to make it look like they’re in two totally different rooms. My favorite musical of all time is Les Miserables, but this one is way up there, if not tied for my favorite. I hated history in school, all those names and dates and battles, etc. After seeing this for the first time back in 2020 I became more interested and wanted to learn more about American history and subsequently, world history. If only my AP History teacher in high school could rap 😂 But Lin-Manuel Miranda packed so much history into this musical, right down to Martha Washington’s cat being named after Alexander Hamilton corresponded with and was close with all of the Schuyler sisters but there’s no evidence he had an affair with Angelica. She was married to an older, wealthy gentleman and went back to England (I think) with him. The affair with Maria (Mariah) Reynolds was definitely a thing though and probably cost Alexander his chance at being president. We don’t know what Eliza actually did with the correspondence between she and Alexander after this happened, whether she burned it all or not is artistic liberty in this play. But we do know there is no existing writing of hers regarding this incident which is strange considering how much written correspondence was shared between she and Alexander throughout the course of their lives together, which survived to present day.

Six, the musical would be epic to react to - it’s pop

emily raines

If you want something equally epic in a different way I would very highly recommend a rock opera called Jesus Christ Superstar. You want the one with Ted Neely that was filmed in 1973. Thats the OG and the best one in my opinion

SugaIsMyPetRock

Oh boy! I just got called off work due to snow so I now have a rare free Sunday afternoon to watch 🫶🏻💜 thank you John for all you do

Darsy Smith

They filmed across two live performances (you can tell because in Satisfied, sometimes Angelica is wearing a corsage on her bodice, and sometimes she is not!), and then added some close-ups (like in Right Hand Man and Wait For It, where the camera is positioned in a way that would have caused disruption in the live show). I believe they had to film the first song without an audience because by then everyone is SO pleased to see each soloist/character that they make a lot of noise and you can't hear the song!

omg! hamilton is such a good show! If you’re looking to react to more musicals, i can HEAVILY recommend Hadestown! (it’s about greek mythology, telling the story of orpheus and eurydice and hades and persephone) i think it won like 8 tony’s in 2019 and the grammy for best musical theatre album in 2020! There is no official recording, but you can find many fan shot ones on youtube (rec: The tragedy of orpheus and euridyce explained ft: hadestown obc, the names have to be kind of weird, otherwise youtube will take these full recordings down lol). It is fully sung through tho, so you can also just listen to the album and not really miss anything, other than the visual of course. Anyway! Hope you’ll continue finding new musicals to enjoy, looking forward to the next one! 💜

Stefanie

If you would like to dig a little deeper into Hamilton I would recommend you this documentary :) you can react to it or just watch it on your own if you're interested to know a little more about it :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIrDY_kO2Qc&ab_channel=Amplified-Music%26PopCultureDocumentaries

No matter how many times I see this - the ending always gets to me. According to what has been written about the filming: "The Hamilton movie was filmed over three days at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (on Broadway, NYC) on June 26, 27, and 28 in 2016. It was right after the Tonys, and right before Miranda left the show. It included two live performances with an audience, on a Sunday and a Tuesday, and one performance without an audience on Monday." And I'm sure as many have told you, Lin Manuel Miranda (who played Alexander Hamilton) wrote the book/music for the musical. Great reaction!

Nikkibos

OMG yes I’m so glad you watched this! Newsies is another good one! Not the movie the movie musical! Newsies and Hamilton i watch at least a few times a month . I can never get enough!!

Annabellae Priestly

I am very interested to see which musicals you check out next! This was great, getting to see someone experience Hamilton for the first time is a pleasure. Thanks for sharing the journey!

Grace

definitely in front of a live audience! they did it across two nights, one live and one without an audience to get the close up shots. but since you're someone who isn't super familiar with broadway, them doing this live is a breeze for them at this point because they put on this show eight times a week and they were about a year into eight shows a week at this point (this is true for most all broadway shows). for next time to ease yourself into this format a bit, you could do "in the heights" which is lin manuel's first musical before hamilton but it's an actual movie version (not live) and isn't sung through the way hamilton is so there are sections that are just spoken acting. and the main character is the guy who played john laurens/phillip hamilton here! can't wait to see more :)

Anonymous

it's funny because i keep answering your questions out loud as if you can hear me lol. they filmed it over 3 days and only 1 wasn't in front of the audience. it's high quality because it's broadway and because hamilton is one of the biggest musicals of all time. those are my answers so far because i just started watching lol

Aubrey Mayes

Loved this reaction!! Now it’s time for the Hamilton MixTape!!

Anonymous

yes, alexander wants to be with everyone. it's very subtle in the show but he and laurens were also in a relationship.

Ms. Chuck Terry

Thank you for doing this. It refreshes my love for this work seeing it and hearing it through someone new. This IS genius. Lin Manuel won a McAurthur grant aka genius award in 2015. And Hamilton won a Pulitzer Prize as well. The opening song ‘Hamilton’ premiered at the White House in 2009. Based on an excellent 700 page biography of Hamilton, that Miranda picked up on a whim, colleagues, including director Tommy Kail and composer Alex Lacamoire, helped Miranda bring it to life as a full musical 6 years later. I suspect you are already on the path to becoming a Hamil-fan. Luckily, there is a lot of additional material, books, interviews, podcasts and a documentary, to provide both artistic and historical background, if you want more detail. A couple of my fav bits of trivia. 1) Alex Lacramoire, arranger, orchestrator, and as seen at the end, conductor of Hamilton has been partially deaf since a child. 2) The violinist on the cast album and on Broadway, Jonathan Dinklage, was the first violin on rock band RUSH’s farewell tour, and is brother to GOT actor Peter Dinklage. 3) Lin told Chris Jackson that he would be George Washington in Lin’s next production, while they were on stage in Lin’s first production “In The Heights”. I doubt any musical in my lifetime will come close to Hamilton. It is like Shakespeare. But I’m glad you have discovered musical theater. There is much to be learned about both music and storytelling. And many talented people to discover.

Érica Havican

I'm hopeful tomorrow will be a "snow day" here in Utah. It will be my first ever, if it happens. Where are you at?

Érica Havican

Yes, I believe one of the best features of filming once without an audience is to be able to capture "true silence" and make the final product better by enhancing the feeling in some scenes. I love it!

Elizabeth Williams

Now you should listen to Hamilton Mix tape, and the songs that got cut =)

Ana

Omg the hair reveal.😂😂😂😂

Anonymous

i'm back! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUI8b17YGx8 this is the full john adams rap and i think everyone who loves hamilton needs to see it because it's so fun

johnreaveslive

LOL I was like, idk if I should put this or not but I am totally random and wanted to include it lol

Ericka

I have watched many reactions to Hamilton but none brought a hair reveal like you did. I literally laughed out loud! Thank you! I look forward to you watching In The Heights...I prefer the movie version but the play is great too.

johnreaveslive

BAHAHAH!!! YES!!!! my work here is done! Thank you so much for being a part of my first musical! this was great and I cant wait to see another!

Anonymous

this is my last comment. the most mind blowing fact i know is: lin manuel miranda was going on a two week vacation and for some reason decided to read an 818 page biography of alexander hamilton while he was relaxing. like...what? that's why we have hamilton.

Liam Mcfarlane

I love how we spend most of the show thinking this is Alexander Hamilton's story but then by the end (especially the last song), we realise it's just as much Eliza Hamilton's story as it is his. The gasp at the end as she looks out into the audience and sees the people who've come to hear the story gets me every time. Also, I still sob at Washington's One Last Time every single time I watch this show. He could have just continued on as president but he understood that the revolution was for the exact reason of not being at the behest of a single leader for their lifetime.

Érica Havican

Have not seen anybody say this yet... The room where it happens was what gave Leslie Odom Jr (Burr), the actual Tony for best actor in a leading role in a musical. That was over Lin Manuel Miranda, the writer of the show and the person playing Alexander. I love this fact because I think Lin could have been greedy and made his character shine brighter than Burr's, but he really just thought about the end product of it all. His humbleness shines on top of it all, and I love it!

Ana

You should definitely react to the phantom of the opera I stress this THE ROYAL ALBERT Hall VERSION 2011. It's the best version. Please do not watch the movie it's horrible. It's on YouTube. It's a rock opera

Ana

Green Day also has a musical called broadway idiot. It's really good. Rent is also very good. I enjoy the movie more than the play

Ana

Les miserables movie is great too. But the 25th anniversary is lit also. If you do Cats it's free on YouTube. Please do not watch that movie either. It's atrocious

Jordan S

Glad you loved Hamilton, the whole cast is amazing! Lin Manuel Miranda actually has another musical that got turned into a movie called "In the Heights" that stars the guy that played Laurens and Phillip and has a bunch of Hamilton cameos. You'd probably love that as well!

Elizabeth Williams

Yuppers! The mixtape is a bunch of different artists redoing the songs that you heard, but there are a few that were cut due to timing and pace of the story

Anonymous

Fun fact: King George is played by Jonathan Groff, who is the voice of Kristoff in Frozen. You should also check out Jekyl and Hyde with Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox. The music was rearranged from the original version to have a more rock feel. https://youtu.be/n4e_TCfmMrw

Jenny V

I also vote for hadestown has to be fan recorded but there’s pretty great ones, phantom of the opera 25th anniversary (do not do the movie!) les mis either movie or 10th or 25th anniversary they’re all pretty solid. Looking forward to in the heights as well I do recommend the movie only bc the fan recording isn’t the best. I would also love to add tick tick boom because it’s amazing and I will provide the background if you decide to do it one day! It’s also the directorial debut of lin Manuel Miranda which is fun.

Darsy Smith

Seconding, the official movie is TERRIBLE, get the 25th anniversary with Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess!

Angie Shaw

I agree about Lin’s first Broadway musical In the Heights - the movie adaptation is great- and the actor who played John Laurens/Phillip plays the main character- Lin was the main character on Broadway and Chris Jackson (Washington) played Bennie- they both have cute cameos in it.

Angie Shaw

Yes- the the remix is crazy. The people who asked to sing on it was amazing. And Obama read Washington’s farewell speech in One Last Time.

Angie Shaw

https://youtu.be/uV4UpCq2azs This was part of Hamilton at The White House - it’s One Last Time. It’s particularly moving as Obama was about to leave office.

Anonymous

Please react to First Burn( https://youtu.be/r2ys-AimNbE ) It’s the first version of Burn sung by 4 actors who played Eliza. Also Congratulations ( https://youtu.be/Tkzm3nqrlQ8 ), another song that was removed from original script, sung at Ham4Ham by Renee Elise Goldsberry (Angelica). She explains where it fits into the musical before the song starts.

Angie Shaw

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6vwnon3sINqMdWY1GpFXsrHTcMJFQAJb Mix tape

Angie Shaw

I always tear up with that one - especially when you can see the girls singing “George Washington’s going home” have tears running down their faces.

Angie Shaw

https://youtu.be/Fb4GlOabb1M This was the performance at the Tonys. They decided to perform the number without the rifles because the Pulse shooting had just occurred in the early morning.

Angie Shaw

And Lin’s acceptance speech always always makes me cry. https://youtu.be/6jehrbUGdlE

SHANNON SLUTZKY

Beautiful. And who knew Eliza accomplished so much herself? Well done💜

Ms. Chuck Terry

And the famous White House portrait of Washington is about 15 feet to Chris’s left. I can’t even imagine how it felt.

Joyelizabeth

I already commented but Miss Saigon ProShot and Les Miserables for emotion. Hadestown and Moulin Rouge for more contemporary styles. And yes, in the heights is great

Viviena

Dude! I love Hamilton so much I flew from Ukraine to see it live (the whole thing costed like half a year of wages for me) and changes my Masters major to theater production just so I can write my thesis on it (did great!). My job has nothing to do with theater, I'm an artist but I love it SO much. And Lin is a genius, you have caught a lot of his rhymes and leitmotifs but most of them have like double and triple meanings, it's SO good. Was stocked to see you reacting to it! It deserves attention! Also Hamilton himself as a historical figure was dope and deserves more attention!

Anonymous

Sadly, no musical before or since has been as amazing as Hamilton (I may be biased as it is my fav rn). But the classics are classics for a reason, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar or Phantom of the Opera are staple musicals (don’t torture yourself with Cats no matter what anyone says). Heathers: The Musical is very fun and weird - defo what I’d recommend for you next to ease you into the more glam-pop-y musicals. Waitress is sweet, Chicago is jazzy, Into the Woods is fairytales gone wrong. There’s a lot of options. Thank you for watching Hamilton, it is honestly a comfort thing for me watching people discover its brilliance. If you read all this; Lin Manuel-Miranda, who wrote all of Hamilton also did all the songs for Disney’s Moana and Encanto. His first ever musical was In The Heights, which is an okay musical, but it was his first so it’s more of a warm up to greater things imo.

johnreaveslive

I honestly cant wait to check these out! Les Miserables might be the next one! I'm going to do a poll on here to see what we should do next for sure!

johnreaveslive

Right?! she is the real star here! I feel like without her and her determination we wouldn't even know enough to have ever had this musical in the first place.

Joyelizabeth

If you do Les Mis I feel like the 10th anniversary or the 25th won't give as much context, because it's in a concert setting and not in a play setting. The movie is good, for the most part. The side actors in the movie are the Broadway stars, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Barks. Or you could do the slime tutorial of the actual Broadway play, which I included. Just thought I should give you better context to choose. https://youtu.be/_68veLkJAjI

Milana Smile

thank you so much for the reaction, i became a patreon just for this, but you were so fun to watch so i‘ll check out more. and lin manuel-miranda is phenomenal. i don‘t know how you didn‘t cry at the end, i still cry after watching this more than 20 times.

thisismaria27

one thing I wanna point out: you're right, most of Hamilton's bad decisions could've been avoided if he had listened to his wife. but that makes you think: how many terrible things in history happened bc men didn't listen to their wives ;)

thisismaria27

Hamilton is a masterpiece filled with so many musical and lyrical parallels (seriously it's SO MANY), easter eggs, homage to other plays, historical references (like Washington's farewell speech) and just overall greatness. It has won every award imaginable (including a Pulitzer) and it redefined musicals. If I were to name all the trivia surrounding Hamilton, we'd probably need a year or so - like that Lin wrote "Dear Theodosia" about a dog or that part of Hamilton's last words "legacy is planting seeds in a garden you never get to see" is an actual Hamilton quote.

Anonymous

i had only ever watched a few of your reactions before deciding to subscribe to your patreon since you mentioned of doing a full reaction to hamilton and i knew i would not be disappointed by your reaction to the film. watching along with you truly made it feel like i was watching this again for the first time. you noticed so much detail just by your first watch too that i feel a lot of other reactors tend to miss. lin-manuel is an absolute genius. hamilton was also my big introduction into musicals so it truly holds a special place in my heart. i’m seeing the show live for the first time in june next year!! thank you for sharing such a genuine reaction with us. i look forward to seeing more and hope you checkout more of lin’s stuff too!

Ms. Chuck Terry

Hey, I thought I was the only one who didn’t like Cats. I’m okay with people liking Cats, but just not for me.

Ms. Chuck Terry

I’m happy for you that you are going to see it in person. It may not live up to all your expectations, but soak it in. Quite an experience. I’m glad I had Kleenex because the actress playing Angelica had me bawling at the end of “Satisfied”.

Anonymous

You realize that the actress playing Eliza actually learned to beat box for this role 🥰🥰

Anonymous

You should watch the credits too, they start out with a remixed version of "My Shot" (which is from an album called the Hamilton Mix Tape, which actually is the original title for Hamilton) then a couple of other instrumentals that highlights the orchestra/band that are great to hear. Since you said you appreciated the arrangement as much as the vocals 😊

My

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is that a lot of the hip hop elements in the show are things taken from hip hop songs. For instance the 10 Duel commandents were an homage to Notorious BIG's 10 Crack commandments. The part in Helpless where Hamilton raps was inspired by songs Ja Rule and Ashanti did back in the day. Just some more fun facts for you.

My

Oh also I agree with everyone that you should do the Movie of Les Miserables and also Moulin Rouge. Two of my favorites. Also some fun hamilton videoson YouTube are called Ham4Ham. When the show was on Broadway in New York people would wait in line at the theater everyday and enter a lottery to win tickets. The actors in the show did little performances for them on the sidewalk. Just search Ham4Ham on YouTube! Super fun stuff!

Scribbles

We absolutely wouldn’t, because his political enemies tried to erase his very existence from history after his death when he had no way to fight back, but Eliza fought to preserve his memory. Without her, Hamilton would have been forgotten.

Scribbles

I’ve read it myself and I can totally understand why it inspired him to write this musical. It’s a very good book.

Jenny V

I’m going to have to disagree hadestown is on the same level as Hamilton for me, it has the same background of starting as a concept album with so many themes. Hamilton is a masterpiece but hadestown stands on the same playing field for me personally. I say this only because you said there hasn’t been a musical since Hamilton to be this great. If you haven’t already give hadestown a chance! It is a total genre change though

kookietaetan

I had to see your reaction to my all time favorite musical, man if they would have taught history classes like this I would have probably aced the class, I hated history when I was in school, now I love it. Musicals are an awesome way of telling stories, I have watched tons of musicals, where I live we have an outdoor theater call the Muny Opera, it runs 7 days a week during the summer, back when I was a little kids famous stars used to do the performances like Angela Lansbury played Mame in Auntie Mame so good, anyway it’s been over 100 yrs and it is still going, although I no longer go because I can’t handle the summer heat like I used to, but it will always be such a great memory

Darsy Smith

I wanted to add a couple of things-- The rotating center stage lights sometimes display the Federalist flag, concentric yellow and black circles. Another thing is that Burr and Hamilton both end their arcs of the play turning their backs on their primary motives: Hamilton throws away his shot, and Burr doesn't wait to fire. You see this as Hamilton lifts his gun and Burr shouts 'wait!' Another fabulous thing is the subtle props work; IIRC the quills mature (as in they're more developed feathers) as the play goes on, and if you'll notice, in The Reynolds Pamphlet, Maria hands him the quill he uses to write it. ALSO, Burr and Hamilton's blocking on stage is different; Burr walks in straight, angular lines, and Hamilton moves in arcs and circles, whenever possible. I'd suggest you also look up 'The Bullet,' because I'd be typing a lot longer and it's more fun to see with images of the play alongside the explanation!

Anonymous

Loved your reaction to this. So much fun. Just a couple of things I’m not sure if you noticed or not but the same guy who played Hercules mulligan played James Madison and the same actress who played Peggy Schuyler played Mariah Reynolds. (I’m aware you noticed Lafayette/Jefferson and John Laurens/Hamilton son. Also very random but I don’t know if anyone’s ever told you that you look a little like the actor Tyler Blackburn.

Zeus Max

Something keeps happening and and showing a play button with a line crossing it out every time I try to watch it

mahjacat

Note: Russell Crowe is highly unsuited, vocally, for the role he sings in the Les Mis Movie.

mahjacat

Those Bastards ALSO LEFT LAURENS' DEATH AND ELIZA'S SCREAM AT HER SON'S DEATH OUT OF THE SOUNDTRACK 😭😭😭😭😭 when those moments occurred during the Nation-wide Watch Along that Lin Live Tweeted we all melted down (and screamed "SOUTHERN MOTHERF$#@ING DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICANS!!!!" Because they couldn't on Disney+ 😊)

Joyelizabeth

I agree with that, but I believe that context is really important, especially for Les Mis. I think the anniversary performances are geared more towards people who know the play and story. They're more like a second watch when you don't want to hear Russell Crowe lol. And honestly, Aaron Tveit makes up for Russell Crowe 😍😍😍😍

mahjacat

The Reynolds Papers have inspired a couple of Drunk History episodes that are Brilliant https://youtu.be/3yi0FNwOYiI https://youtu.be/NsBJ2a1BSak

Anonymous

There are 2 factors contributing to the excellent production like the lighting etc: 1 this is a broadway music the NFL for live theatre so everyone who works on a broadway show is the best of the best and 2 this show won almost if not all of the Tony Awards (like the Oscar’s for Broadway) for production: lighting, sound design, costumes, set, and more not to mention tons of acting categories. I would recommend Come From Away for a next musical as it has a official video of the live performance and is also “sung through” meaning almost no dialogue. This was a great reaction and I can’t wait to see you experience more musical theatre!

johnreaveslive

lol I keep trying to picture my guy Russell singing and its so hard to picture! I might watch the movie just for that! lol! I mean, Gladiator use to be my favorite move ever!

Joyelizabeth

Yes!!!!! I'm here for Moulin Rouge!!! Honestly, I'm such a huge fan of Aaron Tveit that I would recommend anything that he's been in bc it's all so good. And Les Mis the movie was my intro to musicals when I was 14 yrs old and that started my Broadway obsession. I have a slime tutorial of Moulin Rouge if anyone wants it

Joyelizabeth

Oh no don't watch the movie for Russell Crowe!!! Dont get me wrong he acted the hell out of the role but his singing... Other than him there are some pretty powerful vocal performances in it. He doesn't sound bad in some of the numbers but others... Yeahhhhh lol

johnreaveslive

ahhh heck yes Riley thats awesome to know! I love the lighting here! they did an amazing job!

mahjacat

Eliza's Gasp at the end has birthed entire essays. I first watched the really common bootleg, and the way Phillipa did it in that performance always pierces my soul in the Best way. The way I mostly see it, he's proudly walking her to the edge of the stage so she can SEE the enormous audience her life's work has attracted and who now knows His Story 💙

mahjacat

Waiting for your moment with "The Room Where It Happens", and Leslie Odom Jr 's leap on the table, I realized how effortlessly one slides down the adjacent rabbit hole from Musical Theater to BTS. Both endeavors take incredible amounts of talent, stamina, and a staff of hundreds to make it work 🫰🏾💜

mahjacat

The man who designed the Lighting, Howell Binkley, passed away from Lung Cancer at 64 years old 😞 "Lin-Manuel Miranda @Lin_Manuel "Howell. Thank you for Benny & Nina's sunrise. Thank you for Hamilton's hurricane & Burr's self-made walls. Thank you for sculpting in light & elevating every moment you touched. Where will I hide now if not at your tech table? I miss your smile & kindness already. Rest easy pal." 7:18 PM · Aug 14, 2020. Here's an Interview with he and his team member https://youtu.be/wzGXFMPoPtM They also did a fascinating interview a while back with one of the Stagehands: https://youtu.be/Hl11wTfGXQI

Jamie D

No where to go but downhill from here.....Honestly, this may be the best piece of musical performance you'll ever see. It blew my mind the first time I saw it, and it continues to blow me away even though I've watched it countless times. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm glad you *got* it, even though you didn't even tear up at the end (I want my reactors to SOB, dammit). Great reaction to a fantastic musical.

Anonymous

Like others here, I, too, became a patreon for your Hamilton reaction and I was not disappointed. You had many interesting insights. While there are a number of excellent suggestions here for other great musicals, nothing will ever hold a candle to Hamilton, I fear. It is a masterpiece and it won all of the awards deservedly. I have lost count of how many times I have seen/ heard it, yet I am still picking up new tidbits and foreshadowing/ echoes/ calls back with each rewatch. There is just SO MUCH GENIUS packed into it. I look forward to your future reactions. My musicals 2¢: Book of Mormon - no idea if it exists in a streamable form. Maybe just go see it live as soon as you can. It is hysterically funny. Like I almost peed funny. Also, on a totally different end of the musicals spectrum, Liza Minelli’s Cabaret. I think it came out in the late 70s, not that it shows. It will break your heart.

johnreaveslive

Happy!! thank you so much! and for sure I want to see the Book of Mormon soooo bad lol I loved South Park, Basketball, from the writers growing up and would love to see their musical! Did you go see it or is there a movie version of it somewhere?

Anonymous

Rumor has it the stage direction literally says "Eliza beat boxes maternally" 😊

Zeus Max

This is still the first and only musical I’ve ever seen. I listened/watched it every day for almost a year because it is its own soundtrack. I would listen to in the morning and again throughout the day and get songs stuck in my head! I can’t bring myself to watch another play I feel like, nothing could ever top that because I don’t like musicals and I feel like Hamilton wasn’t a musical

johnreaveslive

lol no joke im like 90% of the way there with you! I feel like I want to see what else is out there with musicals because I so harshly misjudged this one! but Im very open to liking them! so maybe we take a toe dip in another musical just to see what they're like!? lol

Saiyasha

To be fair, there is no evidence that hamilton and Angelica ever had an affair. Their letters suggest a certain closeness, but nothing that ever crossed a line in more then thought. Now mariah renolds is another Story. Ther reynolds pamphlets are a real thing, and while the how and when was a little bit different in reality, the fact 5tthat they were published with hamitons knowledge is something that did happen. Eliza actually took the Children and left for 2 whole Years to live with her father after that debakel.

Saiyasha

I find it incredibly important to point out that Mariah reynolds never really had a choice. There are two possibilities for what happened and neither of them leave her much agency: 1: She was in on her Husbands plan and he basically Pimped her out. She doesn't have the Power to tell him know, in their Marriage, he holds all the cards. Quite apart from the physical Violence he has and can inflict on her, he is her and her daughters only financial stability. As a woman she has no recourse for divorce and even if she could, a woman alone can only really earn money one way in this time, especially after being married already. Which leads to possibility 2: Her husband just up and left her and she did the only thing that would bring any money into the house and any food on the table for her and her daughter: She got a rich guy to sleep with her and pay her money for it. Their affair lasted about a Year and from the letters between them, he seems to have been genuinly fond of her. And for her, this was probably a better option then standing on the streetcorner, praying that the next john won't kick her or kill her or give her Syphilis.

Anonymous

oh, for sure! i just think it's so funny that it's what he'd choose to read on vacation. just a coincidence gave us this amazing musical.

Daylet

Found you through your Pentatonix reactions and signed up for your Patreon when I found out you were doing this musical… it’s my favorite. Loved your take on it and would love to see you react to In The Heights, which is another musical written by Lin Manuel prior to Hamilton. Keep up the good work. You’ve certainly earned yourself another fan!

Letty

I remember that I forget to leave a comment here! You was just like me when I watch Hamilton for the first time, been surprise about EVERYTHING! The songs, lyrics, leit motivs, lights, dance, stage, woow! Hamilton just blew my mind from the beggining, and now I'm obsessed, and I'm going the next year to Broadway to watch Hamilton there.

Raye

I appreciated your comparison to a music concert to showcase songs and performances. But remember that on Broadway, this whole show is performed 8 times a week for months or years on end. Actors and the musicians who play the score and all the folks backstage only have Mondays off. Remarkable, isn't it?

BrB R

Pls watch the first burn, which is the first version of burn (the song hamiltons wife sang after the cheating scandal was out for the public) that Lin Manuel Miranda wrote.

Jackson

I never fail, every single time, to break out crying in Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story!

precious926

I joined for this reaction, and you did not disappoint. It was so much fun watching you discover this masterpiece. Thanks for sharing!

johnreaveslive

Ah for real thank you!! I loved this and totally agree this is a masterpiece! I actually just did a reaction to the first 8 mins of In The a heights and I cannot wait to watch that full musical on here! Should be up next week

Gina

Same! There was a period of time when I had been on depression meds and hadn’t cried in a while, but then I was watching an interview with the cast and they were talking about Elizabeth Hamilton’s legacy and briefly showed a portion of the show during that song… and I started BAWLING. lol Sometimes I really hate crying but in that moment, I appreciated knowing I could still express emotions after all. xD
