I clamp my swift in a vertical position instead of horizontal. I find it easier to feed the yarn coming over the top instead of from the side. Of course, I'm winding my yarn by hand 99 percent of the time, so this means I can sit down and the yarn is feeding down towards me and gravity helps it feed, too.
