Good luck with this journey! It will be brilliant, I'm sure. One thing I got as advice when knitting something like colour work hats or socks, is knitting them inside out, so the floats are on the outside, so they are a bit longer this way. Worked fantastic for me.

Agree with Peregrinaea -- knitting the colorwork inside out is a real help, particularly if you're a tight knitter. You could do a small sample on dpn each way (regular and inside-out) and see how much, or if any, difference it makes in your gauge before starting your big project. Best of luck to you Dan!
