I can’t wait for season 2 / 3

Timothy Nikiforovs

Pretty cool finale. Loved seeing Iroh going apeshit oh Zhou, and showing his respect for the natural world. Always liked the character, and now even more so. Zuko seems like he's finally getting his head out of his ass and figuring out who his enemies really are. And Aang straight up sunk a fleet. It really shows how the Avatar can be a game changer. I mean any skilled bender in any 4 disciplines can be dangerous, and being able to do all 4 would offer huge versatility. But if the avatar was someone who could just achieve the skills of a fire, earth, water, and earth bending master combined, it doesn't seem like they'd be in any way unstoppable. Powerful sure, but not enough to take on entire armies alone. But channeling all that into a form that can sink a whole fleet, it makes sense how they could keep balance in the world.

To be clear, it was NOT Aang that killed Jhou in the end. It was the Ocean Spirit that did it in revenge for its counterpart, the Moon Spirit. Aang was already disengaged, and the 'kaiju' was basically a team up between the Avatar and the Ocean Spirit.

easily the best episode of season 1, so much good shit happened

It's been a while since I've seen the show and I forgot how good this episode was! Can't wait for the next season. I think you'll enjoy the more streamlined storytelling. S2 has fewer stand-alone episodes and more over-arching plot.

The way Zuko and Iroh are written is brilliant. These two are technically antagonists, but they're so lovable and sympathetic you can't help but want them to somehow succeed. They have such a great relationship. I liked a lot of the callbacks in the last few episodes, from the pirates coming back to the panda helping Aang find his way home from the Spirit World.

"My father said she was born lucky, he said I was lucky to be born," that line...I felt that. Also, remember back in 'The Storm' when we saw Zuko being burned in a flashback. His sister can actually be seen there in the crowd, apparently smiling at the sight of her own brother being scarred for life.

Just like with the Buffy season 1 finale, this episode gives you a glimpse into what this show is truly capable of. While season 1 is not bad by any means—there's a lot of truly excellent stuff and it's all very necessary—I often start my rewatches in season 2 and am greatly looking forward to that for you. If I had to tweak anything in this ep, I would put the story of Yue being saved by the moon and containing its essence in the previous episode, but perhaps they needed it to be more self-contained than that. The Yue/Sokka arc felt a little forced, even taking into account that they're teenagers, but her death and his face after she disappears gets to me a little. I just love Sokka. The voice actor is really great. Also wanted to note the coloring in the fight between Zuko and Zhao. Zuko is dressed in white/tan, and so the stark blueness of their surroundings makes him appear blue as well, while Zhao's uniform is red and doesn't have the same effect. The use of color in this episode is marvelous overall.
