2024-01-14 21:26:12 I'm of two minds on this episode: It brought the Connor/Cordelia weirdness to an, "Ooooh, okay..." and did provide some answers, but with (almost) everyone in a fugue state it just didn't feel like the comfy Angel episodes we're used to seeing. I enjoyed it, but part of me felt it was slightly tedious. The reveal of Jasmine's true face to Fred was so, so good. It immediately reminded me of the VHS cover of Zombie (1979), which I happened to mention in a fairly recent comment regarding eye trauma on one of your reactions. Jasmine's was far scarier though. I hope there's some resolution to this duplicitousness fairly soon, because I can see this becoming as annoying as, again, the Connor/Cordelia thing. There are only four more episodes in this season so I'm hoping it gets wrapped up by then. You're correct, pain is not a gift, but pain can lead to gifts of all kinds. I met some of the nicest, kindest, and most helpful people after my accident. I always say that it was the worst thing to happen to me physically, but one of the best experiences mentally and emotionally. The actor who played John Stoler is Sam Witwer. You may have seen him in Smallville, Being Human, Once Upon a Time, Riverdale, Supergirl, and others. All of those series' mentioned he appeared in multiple episodes. He was also in Grimm 3x16. A very prolific voice actor within the Star Wars universe video games and other games as well. See you tomorrow Dak! p.s. Hulu, a streaming service in the US, has optioned the A Court of Thorns and Roses book series for a television series. Hopefully it'll be a faithful adaptation. (I saw the Sarah J. Maas book on your desk.)

Also a minor role for the late Annie Wersching as Margaret, about 15mins into Dak's vid. I remember her most for Vampire Diaries, such a shame that she died last year.

Is Skip right about everything having been set up? Yes and no. The demons behind Jasmine's arrival set things up so that Cordelia would be in a position to become a higher being, and so that Angel and Darla would be in a position to conceive a child. Everyone on this version of Team Free Will still made the free choices that they made - in this case they just happened to be fulfilment of the demons' plans. It's like with that other show. There is often the fan complaint that the good guys' efforts at saving people didn't mean as much because there was someone behind the scenes arranging events in their favour. But they still made the same free choices, they still saved the same people. It just turns out that their circumstances were arranged. Their choices weren't. It's the same thing here, except that in this case, the gang have been manipulated into failing rather than succeeding. Knowing the visual of Jasmine's true face was coming, and remembering how grossed out I was when I first saw it 14 years ago, I couldn't bring myself to watch it with you. Instead I found the moment in a previous reactor's video of this episode, reacquainted myself with exactly what her face looks like in order to blunt as much as possible the Lovecraftian horror of waiting for it to appear while only half-recalling it, then covered the right half of the screen when you got to it. Yes, that image and its attendant nightmares may be with you for a while. I've been a few days behind due to laptop issues that are now resolved. It's fate I waited until today, as the after-hours team at my place of work coincidentally chose 4 hours ago to play 'Shiny Happy People' by R.E.M. over the tannoy.
