This is a live post. All of the information here is subject to change based on experience.

First off I want to start by saying that I am open to helping people whether they pay or not. So feel free to ask me for help if you need it and I'll do my best to give you a little bit of time.

But then.. what's the tutoring? Why is it different and what am I paying for?

The tutoring is a personalized dedication of my time to you; a much more involved way of teaching where I will go over concepts in depth and instead of just directing you to resources, I will research alongside you and help you learn.

Each session will be 90 minutes long. And occur once per month. Sessions will be on Discord using the video/screenshare feature.

The first session will have a 30 minute assessment before the 90 minutes in order to discuss what you need help with, talk about how I teach and how you learn, and ultimately decide on whether or not you're willing to commit to the tutoring. At this point you may request a refund if you do not think it will work for you. If you do think it will work for you, then we will move forward.

What I expect from you as a learner:

I ultimately will hold you to the same standard that I hold myself to. I work a lot on figuring out sources of motivation problems and solving ways to work around them, and I will offer motivational advice to help you with that as well. You'll be expected to follow instructions and ask questions in order to ensure you understand what needs to be done in order to move forward with your skills.

What you should expect from me:

I understand that I do not have a teaching degree and so my teaching style may not apply to everybody. This is why the 30 minute assessment is necessary to decide if it will work for you. I am not necessarily hard on everyone but I tend to not accept excuses that I think are invalid such as self-esteem issues and laziness. My time is valuable too, whether I'm being paid or not, and overtime if I feel as though you aren't taking it seriously I may drop you. Additionally, if you need help in between lessons I am willing to put in a little bit of extra time to reclarify or redemonstrate topics I ask you to practice or study.

Requirements to be a student:

  • Must use Discord
  • Able to share your workspace via video/screenshare clearly (don't worry, I have video on Discord so you don't need to have it yet)
  • Have some basic experience with your tools/software of choice

Terms:

  • You must be willing to allow me to watch you work
  • You must be willing to accept criticism without taking it personally
  • You must be cooperative, respectful, and tolerant of my teaching styles (assuming you agree to the tutoring sessions)
  • You must practice when assigned to if time permits
  • You must agree that I am allowed to keep a file on you to save information related to the sessions for the sake of organization. ie. art examples you send me, notes on each session, information regarding your goals and what you have achieved/need to work on next
  • You may record sessions, but cannot distribute/disclose the recordings unless I have done so, myself.
  • You may not include another person in the session without a very good reason. This is negotiable.

  • I must be willing to demonstrate topics upon request if possible
  • I must be open to criticism and correct mistakes
  • I must have no personal bias for the students I work with
  • I must be cooperative, respectful, and tolerant of your learning styles
  • *I must be willing to learn new concepts in order to teach*
  • I may include a person of my choosing in the session, but I also need a good reason and must require your permission in order to do so.

  • If you break the terms, I may terminate sessions without refunding any previous payments.
  • If I break the terms, I will refund the amount for the current session and you may decide on termination. Additional compensation can be negotiated.
  • Negotiations will only be accepted in a respectful manner from both parties.

*If somehow I feel like I am unqualified to learn the concepts you want me to teach then you likely wouldn't need tutoring from me to begin with, but it is possible that some things might come up that I cannot learn in time to help you with.

Once you sign up we will need to get in contact through some kind of direct message. I'll add you on Discord and we can discuss scheduling as well as me briefing you on what you need to prepare for the first session.

I did my best to be thorough with this so it's fair to everyone. Let me know if I've missed anything please.

I have one thing to ask! What device do you recommend for drawing purposes? I've been wanting to draw but wasn't sure what are the requirements I need before I ask for tutoring.

As long as you've got a tablet of some kind, like a wacom tablet and a drawing software that you like, that's all you need to get started

Might I ask how you schedule this stuff? I'm working as of lately and curious if you generally work around schedules so long as they're not insane or somethin'?

Seeing that the post and comments are quite old, how up to date is this? I'm interested in a mentorship like this, but I'm not quite sure that it'd work for me. My problem is that I don't have issues with sketching out stuff and doing linework, but I'm having troubles in coloring-finishing stuff and in general workflow, wondering if you could give some advice in that regard if I show you examples and a general style-workflow I'm aiming for in my art
