A small side note.  I noticed the episodes are very desaturated.. It slightly bothers me idk why it just feels so bland.  I miss the bright colors ;(

Finally non filler and a great arc well. After ep 233 you could also watch OVA 8 and 9 which are great as well. That would be a great Point since afterwards it is getting serious.

The episodes from now until the end of these two arcs are going to look duller, it’s to mark the direction the story takes, in my opinion I like this art style the best from the whole anime series

Yes, you’re now back in the canon story of Fairy Tail known as the Sun Village arc. It’s not a long one though and most of it is groundwork for the following arc. As for the desaturation, I think it was a deliberate choice by the art studio as we start heading towards what is arguably the darkest arc in Fairy Tail so have your tissues ready. And the color will eventually come back.

I'm a fan of the different art style, personally. This arc also has my favorite ending song, "Never Ever" by Tokyo Girls Style. I would sit there and listen to the ending song every episode. I also don't mind Lucy's outfit. I mean, it's a tank top and short shorts. We're not talking insane fan service, it seems like something Lucy would wear and I don't find it distracting. Overall, I guess I like this arc!

I am currently in the middle of reading Rave Master so I enjoyed the scene at the play so much more than when I first watched Fairy Tail.

The reason why Natsu and the others are having difficulty beating them easily is because they are just warming up. It's an anime trope by stretching the fights so it's not boring for the viewers.

The desaturated episodes initially bothered me too, but with how dark the next arc gets, I can see why they did it like that.

Yeah I was surprised by the change in coloring too. The desaturated look feels very weird at first. Especially during this (yes, it’s canon) sun village arc. But once the next arc begins in about 5 episodes or so, the desaturated look fits the plot of that arc much more! And when you start the final season, the normal very saturated colors will return!!

Just a little trivia, the Ichiya episode was actually in the manga as well, but it was an Omake. Then again, Omake in general is considered canon since they are drawn by the original mangaka.

yeah I caught up to the manga while I waited for this second part of the anime to come out (2014 I think) and just ended up reading till the end and kinda forgot about the anime 😅 I started rewatching the whole anime last year and I agree that the desaturation makes a lot of sense with the next coming arc. I would say the Sun Village arc is a preview/build up to the next arc so I guess it would make sense to start the change in coloring here

Well it always depends on the content of the Omake, some of them are clearly not canon like the Stone Age Omake or Lucy and Migi. But yes many of them are canon.

Well I think it's also a rare case of Fairy Tail actually underestimating the enemy (usually they are the ones being underestimated), while the enemy is going full force from the get go.

also when I first heard Natsu said "Small!" at 30:40, i was chuckling "NO! NO! NATSU... NO!!!!" for at least a minute.
