love the new video, I also love the gen 2 Sugimori art. Gen 2 is just the best, best remakes, best manga arc (although my teenage brain loved the gen 3 love story) and best music. My favorite spot in HeartGold is the National Park. I played the mini games in that area so much as a kid. For my question, what’s the ideal Custom first route Pokémon lineup for you? 3-4 Pokémon that could appear in the first route of the game, usually with one flying type and one normal type.

Hey there :), I find it compelling that even though I have primarily experienced Pokemon through my periphery (picking quite a few up games and getting distracted mid-way through, similar to your experience in the video), it has regardless created meaningful moments throughout my life. One moment in particular was when I was briefly enrolled in a Catholic school and I had initially felt completely foreign to that environment. However, Pokemon card collecting acted as the medium in which I began to connect with those around me. Its subsequent banning, although heartbreaking, only served to further those bonds due to our collective angst. It's acted as a significant way to connect with others, even though I haven't fully completed a game. Are there any other series that you have experienced primarily through your periphery that have nonetheless created lasting impacts on you?

Hello Hazel and Alyssa! First off I wanna say, as someone who grew up in southwest America, I completely agree that snow always felt this magical and faraway scenery that I would never get to experience because I live in the dessert, so experiencing it through games and shows was always euphoric. Question: After modding my 3DS last week, I finally started my journey of playing all the mainline Pokemon games I never played. What would you say I can and can not look forward to as I play through them. I've started Crystal already. And quick side question: What model cameras were you showing off in your bag? Great job on the new EP btw! I love it!

Hello! I love the video and your new music! A few years back I got Pokemon silver and blue from a local half price books, and of course the batteries were dead. I ended up de-soldering the batteries and soldering in some new ones, and I also fixed my friends copy of Pokemon red too. Have you considered replacing the batteries of your Gameboy pokemon games? Its fine if you don't have the time, energy, or desire to do that repair, but I thought it was pretty fun to do myself 🙂

Hey, sorry to hear that you are having trouble sleeping but have you tried the new Pokemon Sleep app? https://www.pokemon.com/us/app/pokemon-sleep/ A few years ago I did a software testing contract for tPCI. And there is some wild stuff on that pokemon.com. I was probably the least poké-pilled of the bunch; but it was my crash course into everything Pokémon and pokemon.com became a favorite Pokémon place for me personally (and I had a great time working that contract). If you dig around on the site you can definitely find some fun Pokémon ephemera. (and you can watch the first 4 seasons of Pokémon). P.S. Be on the look out for Pokémon themed stencils for Halloween pumpkin carving (I hope they are still doing those).

Great video, loved how breezy and personal it was. My personal favorite poke-spot is Ecruteak City because it reminds me of taking the ferry to some of the outlying islands near Seattle. My question is this: Your video got me thinking about how games use nostalgia to enhance their themes and gameplay. Not just retro throwbacks but things like feeling homesick in Earthbound, the tutorial in Kingdom Hearts 2, the calm upshifted remix of older music in Pokemon Gold and Silver, etc. What are some examples that stand out to you and what do video games do as a medium that make them better suited at making you feel nostalgic?

Hi Hazel and Alyssa! Just moved away to university and while I wait for my classes to begin I‘ve been finding lots of time in the day to just relax and watch your vids while doing some menial tasks. You’re picks for the gen 3 and gen 4 games especially were super awesome and I’d go as far as to say that route 113 from the gen 3 games is my fav if not second fav route in the entire series of mainline Pokémon games (route 120 also freaking rules. I love absol.). Was wondering if either of you have had any experience with the Pokemon ranger series of games? Although my memory may be lacking I feel like a lot of the spaces in that series feel really fleshed out for what was really just kind of a DS offshoot of a series. Also, smiling broadly EP wwas so so awesome and I’m real excited for more music under that alias in the future!

Hazel!!! I need to tell you how obsessed I am with Smiling Broadly, It’s literally all I’ve been listening to since it came out. I love it so so so so much. I also loved the video! It was so chill and made me think a lot about my favorite hang out places in video games as a kid. Anyway, My question is if Wander was a pokemon what moves would he have?

Marie Emari

Hi Alyssa and Hazel! I absolutely *loved* this video, as someone who would spend tons of time just sorta hanging out in Eterna Forest. The airy flutes and low bass, the way the light shines through the dense canopy, and the little text when you look at the mossy rock, its all so good! When it comes to other games, are there any that come close to having cool spots to chill in, and if so what are your favorite smoke spots in other games?

Melonenstrauch

Hiii Hazel and Alyssa! After lurking for months I finally found a question to ask: Hazel, the background music you use in your videos has repeatedly confirmed your objectively good music taste (Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Evergrace) and since this video was about video games, what is your favourite game soundtrack made after 2010? Curious about yours too Alyssa! Also I just wanted to say thank you because your video about weird 80's OVAs is what really got me into anime!

Hi Hazel, hi Alyssa! As a fellow roof person I was wondering if you have a particular roof or roof memory that would stick out as a favorite?

Hello! Just wanted to pop in and say I was cackling at the part with all the Rika screenshots.

I know asking a second question is bad form but I felt bad asking one that wasn’t even related at all. I’m not the hugest Pokémon fan but I really did enjoy this video. Collaborating with Mae and Thor on this video really made it feel like the labor of love it probably was! Anyway what are your thoughts on Clobbopus? That’s my favorite gen 8 Pokémon.

Excellent video as always, I was wondering if there are any videos you'd consider revisiting/ making follow-ups to?

Great video as usual, back when Gen 5 came out I used to just chill on Route 10 just to vibe to the music, and when I was really young I used to hang around Ecruteak city, especially at night, just because I love the town and the music. My question is what's your favorite of the Pokemon movies? I am a big Gen 2 fan and I used to bug the hell out of my parents by playing Pokemon the Movie 2000 non-stop. Keep up the great work!

Great video! Got a bit of a weird question perhaps, at some point in the Channel Awesome movie stream, you mentioned Horseshoe Finale and its relation to "an obscure podcast", or something like that, don't remember clearly, just want to know, were you talking about the PCP? God I miss those guys.

The little Poké Bean islands from son and moon have my heart. There's a lot of little micro-games in Pokemon but that sending my mons out to collect beans felt especially good.

My pokémon experience is somewhat limited- I grew up in a family skeptical of video games and I dont think I ever got into the show- I did inexplicably have one of the movies on vhs maybe the 1st one but not sure. This was a chill look into a world I’d like to visit at some point as I fill gaps in my anime knowledge! My question is not related to pokémon (if that’s okay, if not no worries)- I could be misremembering, but I think I heard you refer to gay subtext in From Up in Poppy Hill? Was it maybe a vibe between two of the women boarding in the house? Am I remembering the wrong ghibli film? It’s one of my favorites- it really conveys nostalgia for its time and place in a remarkable way and the story is sweet. Thanks for so many cool insights on the animanga world!

The Blue Quartz Dragon

Hi Alyssa and Hazel! How's Wander? Anyways, I now understand what you meant by "Absolblogspokemon" style video with this one. Going on a trip way over somewhere, having a wide shot of an open area with 3d or 2d sprites wandering through it, recording without a capture card, THE TV BIT?? Immaculate precision to his style. Stunning video. Also new your new album. Probably some of my favorite songs ever! Anyways! I'm shocked you didn't mention the massive amount of snowy towns and routes in Pokemon. I find them all to be extremely cozy (even if there's a strong Pokemon about to trample me)! Personally my favorite is Circhester. The music is just delicious to pause the game on and have it in the background. That or the new snow town where the ghost/dark type gym leader is in Scarlet/Violet. I actually was able to catch a diamond dust one day!

they should make larger fruits

hi hazel! do you have any general tips for someone trying to compose more dense songs? after i lay down chords + melody + drums i struggle to come up with more variation and layers. love this video by the way, one of my favorites yet!

Hi Hazel! I noticed in your video for a moment that you have a cow Palm Pal!! I have a strawberry cow, as well as the alien and the axolotl and I can't get over how cute they are! My silly little question is do you have any other Palm Pals (or perhaps other stuffed animal friends) that you're thinking of buying? A more noteworthy question I also have is how do you get media footage for videos? I usually copy the link from YouTube and put it in a website that converts it into an MP4 - I also have been recording my screen using OBS. Is there any way you do it that's perhaps more time effective, or is this pretty much how one goes about this? Anyway, love your videos as always, and I hope you're doing well! 🤗💖💕

Elias Rosner

Oh God. Pokémon channel! I played that game so much but never seemed to figure out how to "finish" it. Wild. On PC, do you think it scratched the GameCube era itch for that Stardew-esque not quite Animal Crossing cozy feel?

what music should i play at the cafe i work at to impress/frighten my rather pretentious coworkers

Hazel, your videos are amazing! I've seen all the ones on Youtube around 4 times each now I think! Questions: So what instruments do you play and the cassettes that you make, are you the writer of those songs? Where do you fin the Japanese singers?

Potion Yeller

Been listening to smiling broadly on repeat for the past couple of weeks, puke (106% true speed) is really really good, and I like the musical homage to BP/Coaltar in patterns of behavior, shit rocks. I was wondering what kinda thought process it takes to make lyrics that you like. I've tried to write lyrics and most of the time it feels like inauthentic flowery language or emotionally stunted nonsense. Thank you.

ollie

Hey Hazel & Alyssa y Wander! The shots in this video were so entertaining. All the color palettes and shot framings of your dee-esses just idling blended so well with the in-game footage of the background just vibing. The music choices were choice as hell - as well. This is probably my favorite, im gonna say the word, c o z y video youve made yet. Thank you so so much for all the work you put into these vids. They make me so happy. My questions kind of a boring one. How do you store and recall all the footage, music, memage, and media you hang on to and use? A huge ass NAS? Big ol cloud? In whispers to wander? Anyway, thanks again and have a great day.
