Hi Hazel and Alyssa! As a Filipina with a vegetarian girlfriend, I was wondering if y'all have tried making any vegetarian versions of Filipino dishes? In my experience a lot Filipino food uses meat so I'm interested if y'all have any good substitutions!

Hey Hazel! Hey Alyssa! Whats up!? Another music question for Hazel: (feel free to combine with the question by T.K. above if that’s appropriate) As someone that grew up playing a lot of jazz and being a big music theory nerd, I really enjoy the ways that jazz and blues permeate a lot of J-pop/VGM and contribute to that ‘optimistic melancholy’ vibe, if you get me. I’ve been getting into a lot of Japanese rock/punk recently and really clicked with the way you described the emotional experience of listening to bands like The Pillows for the first time. As I don’t really have as much of a musical background in the genre (but would love to start playing more), I was wondering if there are any musical aspects that you think particularly contribute to this vibe and have kept you enamored with the music over the years? You mentioned that it's not really a feeling you get from their outside influences as much, so do you feel that there is something particularly unique to the subgenre? Would love to hear your thoughts as a fellow musician :)

Something i love about your work is the different ways you're able to describe the in-between, marginal, and/or "incomplete" feelings of a thing; the countryside nostalgia of a strip mall, the frame rate dip of Drakenguard 3, or even in this fooly joint, "the indeterminate twilight age before you actually start coming of age". Every time, I get increasingly excited to revisit old pieces of art/life, or seek out new ones, that I may have otherwise overlooked. The way you celebrate the unnamed and unsung parts of life and art has greatly enriched my own life and art. The ending of this video was particularly inspiring. Thank you very much. ...my question is how do you program your drums in logic to get it sounding clippy and loud and good and crunchy but not ruining the mix holy shit is it compressors? its compressors isnt it. or maybe its limiters too idfk holy fucking shit lol

I feel bad asking this under a video that i can feel means a lot to you, but i really do need a straight answer: What makes a song "Penis-y"? I keep thinking how you described Style Savvy's OST as a Penis-y and i still don't know if i understand correctly...

Were either of you into Webkinz growing up? I randomly got into conversation about it the other day with my friend after sharing the FLCL video so I thought to ask here!

I'd never watched FLCL before, as it was somewhat before my time – a series you'd hear ppl reference every once in a while but never really see ppl watch or recommend you watch (except in those massive "here's all the classics" lists). as such, your comparison about trying to follow a conversation that's been going on for five hours by the time you enter the room could well apply to me watching the video too lol. the discussion was interesting nevertheless, and I do plan to give it a watch in the near future as for my question: what series have been for you like FLCL is for me, before your time but still kind of always there in the background radiation?

Hello Hazel! Loved the video - I think I could tell that the idea of making a FLCL video seemed fraught to you, and I imagine the 'density' of FLCL commentary was a big reason for that, like 'omg yet another FLCL video'. Were there any things you maybe wanted to discuss about the show but it felt like highly covered ground, or tropes from other videos that you were like "nope I cannot say that, we all have heard that". How much did the "meta" of FLCL discourse affect your thoughts? Or I am totally off base and this never mattered to you at which point pls ignore ^_^

Hello hazel and Alyssa! Hope your doing well, the bit at the end of the video about not fretting about what you “get” out of art was something I found really powerful and inspiring! I was wondering if there were any times in your life outside of your videos that you have felt this sort of all or nothing creative energy with (sorry if this doesn’t make sense) thanks again great video as always

So cool you did a flcl video! I love that show and just finished rewatching it before you covered it! Im sure you've already been asked this before but whats your favourite anime openings? Also super quick one but have you seen the magical destroyers opening becuase it is incredible and very hazelcore imo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEOrYZhMsvw)

Hello! Great video as usual! One thing in particular that you mentioned in this video which really struck a cord with me was how attempting to vocalize one's taste in media can unintentionally lead to a sort of self-pigeonholing. It reminded me of my early teens when somebody asked what my favorite movie was. I answered Blade Runner on a whim, but for some reason I allowed that answer to have a strange amount of sway over me for a number of years. I made a point of watching Blade Runner at least once a year, a ritual I didn't keep to for other movies that I enjoyed considerably more, because I had said that Blade Runner was my favorite movie. Looking back, I think Blade Runner is just fine, but having vocally committed to it being my "favorite" I tried to brute force it into being more significant to me than it was? Have you ever had a similar "self-pigeonholing" experience with a particular piece of media?

Hi Hazel & Alyssa, My girlfriend and I noticed in one of Mae's recent streams that you were wearing a Darkthrone shirt. My girlfriend was a huge fan of black metal in high school and only recently learned of a lot of the problematic history of the scene (aside from all the Mayhem backstory, including Varg Vikernes murdering Macaulay Culkin's brother). Fenriz has since denounced his past behavior but Varg, who has writing credits on some Darkthrone albums, clearly still subscribes to nazi ideology. Just wanted to let you know, didn't know if you were aware of that or not.

ill answer more in depth in the q&a but just so you dont have to wait however long for an answer, yeah varg is and always was a total dipshit and part of why i love lords of chaos so much is that it fully understands that fact. in a scene so dominated by going to such extremes for edgelord cred i think fenriz being willing to cop to having said stupid bullshit in his 20s takes a bit of extra humility that reads to me as pretty legit on his part. totally valid question either way, theres definitely an inherent sketch factor on every single one of those early 90s black metal acts so i totally get the concern hahaha

Hello, Question for Alyssa: I recently read through the Krystoff route of Duenkhy, and it's got me very excited for Love in a Bottle. What's been your experience going from an outsider perspective (that is to say, Jun being someone from the normal world introduced to a magical one) to that of an insider, a magical creature still living in the magical world? Thank you.

Hi Hazel and Alyssa, I’m going to do that thing where I ask a question about an older video. I imagine I’ll finally think of a good FLCL question three videos from now and post it then. I was thinking about my relationship with Lucky Star and what impact it had on me when I watched it. I was also a fan of the show, it was a big deal for me when I saw it. I had Konata desktop wallpapers and everything. However, despite loving the show, it sort of 9/11’d my interest in anime and manga at the time. Just something about how it was such a subversive deconstruction of the slice of life stuff I’d up until that point loved so much, it became the “anime to end all anime” for me. It wasn’t until quarantine that I started diving back in and have since watched a ton of shows both new and old. Has any media done something similar to you? Not necessarily anime, but has a game, show or movie just torpedoed your interest in a genre or medium you like despite the work being something you enjoyed?

Hi Hazel & Alyssa, What media have you two been enjoying recently?

Hi Hazel! Hi Alyssa! The FLCL video is indirectly responsible for me re-reading Fire Punch for the second time (Podspirit was directly responsible for the first time, and I am eternally grateful to you and Nicky for that). My question is, do either of you have any thoughts about Togata's gender and the I-guess-you'd-call-it-a-twist. I'd completely forgotten about it and it floored me again on this re-read. I'm still sorting out my feelings about it but I think on the whole it was a handled with an amount of grace and nuance I wasn't expecting.

hiii!! hope you both are having a great day. what do you think are the character designs that shaped your taste in character designs?? also really quick extra question, I caught an alien 9 clip in the video in the section about trying to define your taste and I'd love to hear a bit of what you think about it!!! ^^

Hi! Little late, hope you haven't recorded the QnA already T_T but.. I'm on vacation in Tokyo right now, enjoying the sunset over the city from Odaiba Seaside Park and listening to Touched or been touched by, and the vibe is absolutely life-changing. Thank you for the amazing album, I've been listening to it a lot lately and I feel like it's really hit me at just the right time in my life! Always love when music does that (^_^).。*♡ Sorry that's not a question lol, just thought you might like to hear it ¦3 Have a wonderful day !

If you have time would you ever consider making a video of music recommendations? I feel like our music tastes are adjacent but you probably know a ton of cool stuff that I don't and would love.

Mario_bland

I just joined your patreon and was wondering where I could listen to your music? Love your video work! It's like hour long warm vibes videos and extreme anime research that I didn't know even could exist.

Hi Hazel and Alyssa, have either of you read the manga Dandadan?
